Nanana’s Buried Treasure Volume 5 Chapter 5.6

It’s almost like a joke.

This is why Todomatsu Shuu is called 《Hundred Faces》.

I was planning on asking Yukihime-neesan (who is next to me) to participate in the audition, but she flat out refused saying 「Absolutely no way. 」

Of course there is a reason why we needed D’ark to pass the auditions and now be on stage. It was to have a certain device secretly installed on the stand where the button was placed.

This story starts a few days ago.

At a family restaurant after I (wearing an afro and sunglasses) infiltrated a TV station with two other people. As I was pondering how to get the GREAT 7 to choose our wish, I noticed a picture in my digital camera.  It was of the button the GREAT 7 presses to stop the numbers. This button, which is designed to stop the randomly changing numbers, is what I’m pondering about how it works.

As soon as the button is pressed, a stop signal is sent and the randomly changing numbers stop. This is key. I then wondered if it would be possible to send the stop signal, which usually occurs the moment the button is pressed, only when a certain number is reached.

It was our high school freshman Suina Hiiragi-chan who decided whether or not this idea was possible, and then built the device to do it.

Suina-chan invented a device that, when placed near a button, interrupts the stop signal emitted when the button is pressed. This makes it possible to block the stop signal if a different number is displayed when the button is pressed. This means other numbers will keep being displayed, and as soon as the number that we want to be selected is on screen, the block is released and the desired number is selected.

I asked if it was really possible, but was immediately silenced by her professional knowledge. She told me that the data integration is by transmission and reception, it uses a randomizer with an algorithm, and it means there is about 65,000 numbers that appear within a second with almost zero lag time when the button is pressed. Well I was told a lot of things but I didn’t understand it at all.

Well anyways, it seems like it’s possible.

The device was made as small as possible, so it was about a centimeter square. However the effective range is extremely small, about a radius of 50cm. However, that it big enough.

Right now the small device is hidden in D’ark’s hand as she is pushing the stand where the #3 button was placed. D’ark placed the stand in the middle of the stage and gently placed the device next to the switch. The color of the device matches the color of the stand, so it is barely noticeable at first glance.

Now we are ready to go.

D’ark leaves as if everything is completely normal, and only Ruri Kanna is left on stage.

As before the numbers displayed at random wildly.

By the way, Yukihime-neesan’s strip was number 92,382, which I checked in advance by breaking into the TV station. It has already been loaded into the installed device by Suina-chan.

Ruri Kanna-chan pressed the button while a drum roll plays. The number chosen is…

「#92,382 is the wish chosen by Ruri Kanna-chan. This is the wish of Fugi Yukihime. 」

The venue was filled with the same cheers as before. Yukihime-neesan and I were surprised.

「Whooaaa, are you serious? Wooow! 」

「Even though our rehearsals went smoothly, it is still surprising. 」

「Let’s see if I can get in contact with the winner. 」

As the commentary says this Yukihime-neesan’s mobile phone began to vibrate.

「Are you going to answer, Yukihime-neesan? 」

「Of course not! 」

As a kunoichi, Yukihime-neesan stubbornly refuses to be that visible.

「Ooops, we couldn’t connect! What’s she doing!? Are you busy with a man, you snow demoness? 」

Laughter erupted from the venue, and Yukihime-neesan turned bright red while looking down.

「Anyways, as for the all important request… it’s written in a lot of detail. This seems to be a request for the financial cooperation and an application for the establishment of a company. It is written in quite fine detail. 」

Ruri Kanna-chan, who was on the stage, immediately brought out a copy of the wish, but the number of sheets was outrageous. At a glance it looked like there were about 100 sheets of printer paper.

Ruri Kanna-chan took the mic and said a few things with a smile. 「I can’t help you if I can’t get in contact with you. So I will accept this proposal under my authority, and will set up a meeting with Fugi-san to discuss the matter further. 」

「This will all be broadcast on an NNE program in the future, so please look forward to it! 」

We can be flexible when things don’t go as planned. At any rate, Ruri Kanna-chan’s turn is now finished. As Ruri Kanna-chan was heading to her special seat, D’ark appeared on the stage again and pushed the button stand to the exit. I was worried that I could see him take the device with his hand, but he’s an amateur. In the worst case, if someone get’s suspicious just throw it away somewhere. It’s no bigger than a piece of trash, so it’s easy to get rid of the evidence.

This has gone great, but there is still one question that remains though.

「So Yukihime-neesan, what kind of company are you creating? 」

The reward that Yukihime-neesan got (Shuu-san also participated in the 《festival》 after finding out about this from Yukihime-neesan, but didn’t win anything) was to have one wish come true. I wasn’t told what it was, but I wouldn’t have guessed it was the establishment of a company.

「I’m looking forward to once this is done. 」

In the end she just smiled and didn’t tell me anything.

「Well, there are only a few more wishes to get granted, and we will continue with number 4. Here comes Shiki Maboro. 」

「Here we go. Here comes the lazy landlord! 」

From the wings of the stage, a beautiful woman in men’s pantsuit, appeared dashingly. As she appeared girl like screams could be heard.

「… who the heck are you? 」

I screamed. Yes I screamed. I mean it was totally different than the lazy landlord I know. It’s like the before-and-after of a magazine ad! What’s with this super cool look?

「Shiki Maboro is overwhelmingly popular with women because of her icy appearance. However she is only ever really seen in public, her private life is completely hidden behind a veil of mystery. 」

I see, so the women cheering in a loud voice must not know what this bad landlord usually looks like.

The wish ended for Shiki-san ended up being 「I would like to have a day date with Shiki-sama. 」

Um, of course it was a girl who requested this.

The winner, a girl who was apparently in the audience, was so overjoyed that she almost fainted, but Shiki-san’s Jacket was buttoned tight. This is the very image of a woman who is destined to be unattractive to men.

And the next one was…

「Now, the sixth person to grant a wish is the head of the Nanaejima Board of Directors and the head of Nanaejima, ShunJuu Ikkaku. 」

A man in a slender suit emerges from the wings of the stage. He has a difficult expression on his face, but he has the aura of a successful man.

I see him for the first time. So this is Ikkaku Shunjuu.

「When this man makes his appearance, the TV ratings plummet! It’s because this man is so serious he can’t even enjoy a pun! In the past he’s scolded 3 students for writing jokes, and have even called the police twice! However, he is the top of Nanaejima and is not a bad guy. If you have a serious wish he will grant it politely! For this wish I am going to change my voice from that of a variety show announcer to one more like an educations TV show, or economic news reporter. But you my fellow TV viewers, please bear with me and don’t change the channel! 」

「Well Ikkaku Shunjuu-san, who just wasted 50 minutes of our time on the very unexciting topic of ‘Negotiation rights of tenants of the Seventh Building’, did a great job! The internet was full of praise from college students and professionals who wrote, ‘It was easy to understand’, ‘I found it informative’, ‘I didn’t realize there were so many ways to do it’, and so on! Contrary to our expectations, the ratings were not bad! I am daring to say this; I’m so glad that you’re here, I’m doing what I want to do in Nanaejima, please keep it up boss! 」

And now for the President’s call. Yes, the student announcer girl was too straight forward and has flipped back. And everyone on the island is too excited.

「OK then, it’s time for the main event! It’s Ryugajou Nanana’s picture frame that comes up for the last wish of this year’s Tanabata Festival! 」

Listening to the announcer, the five GREAT 7 members lined up in the middle of the stage. Ruri Kanna-san seems to be on standby waiting in the wings of the stage.

In the midst of all this, Shuu Todomatsu disguised as a beautiful woman, brought a stand with a sparkly number 7 on it. With a smile on his face, he left the button in the middle of the stage and exited. Of course he left the device in place like D’arc did, but unlike D’arc it looked very natural.
