Nanana’s Buried Treasure Volume 7 Chapter 7.4

「So, ummm. Is Nanana-san a leprechaun too?」

「Why do you think that?」

Perhaps because she was lending her body to her, Saki was able to sense Nanana’s slight surprise.

「Well, Nanana-san said earlier that she made a contract with 《God》.」

「…I see. So it was Saki-chan who was calling Negakana 《God》.」

「Nega, huh…「

「No, it’s nothing. …Well, if you are asking me if I’m a leprechaun, I’d say I’m not a leprechaun.」

「Is that right? Then why did you come to help me?」

「Personally, I just wanted to do something about Sansa. So I asked 《God》 to let me borrow Saki-chan’s body for a little while. Don’t worry, I’ll leave as soon as I get rid of Sansa.」

「By Sansa, do you mean Anego?」

「Huh? Saki-chan doesn’t know about Sansa?」

There, as Saki heard from Nanana the true identity of Sansa, she was surprised and said ‘Wooow!’.

「Of course, Anego is really an amazing person!」

「Yes, that’s right. Sansa is super amazing.」

「But but, can Nanana-chan win against Anego?」

Nanana smiled at the worried Saki.

「Sure. I’ll figure out a way.」

In return, Nanana asks Saki a question.

「That being said, I wanted to ask you one thing. What will happen to Saki-chan if she fails to sign the contract as the organizer?」

Saki begins to panic when Nanana asks such a direct question.

「Umm… I’m not supposed to tell anyone that.」

「It’s ok, I’ll keep it between us.」

「I can’t! 《God》 sees everything!」

The little Sakis were all in agreement saying, 「「That’s right. 」」

「It’s ok. I rank above 《God》.」

「I..is that really true? Then Nanana-chan is a goddess!」

「No no, that’s an exaggeration.」

Saki’s bright smile made Nanana’s expression seem distorted.

Saki can tell how happy she is.

Saki thinks for a moment before answering Nanana’s question.

「Well… If I fail, I die.」

「Eh?」

「There have been a few things that happened, and I ended up violating the contract. So I’m trying my best to get forgiven.」

「…I see.」

The little Sakis started making a fuss.

「That’s right. We are going to survive!」

「Then we’ll confess to Tetsu that we love him!」

「And that’s how we have a lovey-dovey time with Tetsu!」

「Pffft!」

With all the little Sakis chattering and laughing, Saki gets flustered and yells.

「Hey, you shouldn’t say that!」

「Oh no, I’ve done it now!」

「We’ve done it!」

「We need to escape!」

Saki catches the little Sakis and cover their mouths as they scatter and try to escape.

Nanana giggles at the Sakis playing around.

「Oh ho, so Tetsu-kun is that guy. Juugo’s friend who was swapped with Sansa.」

「Ugh, why does Nanana know so much?」

「I thought it was suspicious after hearing about it from Juugo and Tensai-chan.」

「Why is Yama-sempai and the others showing up here?」

「Well, there’s a lot going on. Well, that being the case, I’ll give you some advice. And Juugo will help you out too. After all, today I’m in the mood to make someone’s love come true.」

「W..why are you in such a mood?」

「No well, D’arc-chan’s love story got me so excited. I’m feeling a bit like the Cupid of love today.」

I don’t really understand what’s going on, but it’s very annoying.

Or so Saki thought, but…

「In that case, you’d be better off looking into Nishi-san.」

「Yes, I’m very concerned about her relationship with Tetsu.」

「But I’m too scared to ask.」

One after another, all the Sakis started talking.

「T..that’s why you mustn’t say that!」

「What’s that? Did something happen between Nishi-chan and Tetsu-kun?」

「Something seems to have happened.」

「Something seems very suspicious.」

「I would like to ask you for an investigation.」

「Ugh, don’t talk without permission!」

Saki chases after the little Sakis who are running away.

However, Nanana smiles when she hears the little Saki’s wishes.

「OK, just leave it to Onee-san.」

「So, Asumi-chan. What is your relationship with Tetsu-kun?」

「I thought you’ve been just muttering to yourself, and then all of a sudden you ask this?… No, are you Nanana-san?」

The location was the Cat Ears Team waiting room.

M, or Nanana, who had been chatting with Saki and the little Sakis in her head for some time now, looked a little creepy from an outside perspective. So Asumi called her out.

And then suddenly this happened.

「No no, Asumi-chan. I’m the mysterious masked girl M.」

「No, weren’t you just talking to Yama-kun and the others?」

「Ummm, I see.」

As M denies the allegations with a bright smile, Asumi takes things even further.

「While we’re at it, I’d like to ask, what is the relationship between Nanana-san and the Leprechaun? It’s been rumored for a long time now that the Leprechaun are exacting Nanana-san’s will…「

「Enough with this nonsense now.」

「Um well this is quite important to us…」

「Well, let’s make a deal then. If I answer that question Asumi-chan, then please tell me about Tetsu-kun.」

Asumi is surprised by the sudden negotiation.

「Eh? Why are you asking that…」

「What do you say?」

After much thought, Asumi came to a conclusion.

「…OK, I’ll tell you.」

「Alright, it’s a done deal. I’ll answer that question. I really don’t know much about the leprechauns. That’s all.」

Asumi was confused by M‘s simple answer.

「Really?」

「Well, that’s a bit of a lie. Like Asumi-chan and her friends, and the other kids that are looking for the Nanana collection, I know about them through word of mouth. The kids that are making the 《ruins》 on this island. But why are those kids doing that? How do they operate in secrecy? I don’t know any of that.」

「So, you know where the 《ruins》 are, and what the Nanana collections are…」

「Yes, I won’t answer any more. I’m completely neutral, so it’s a secret.」

「No, that’s the point…」

「I can’t answer any more than this. Please talk to your local office.」

It seems that M, who has begun to act like a wannabe celebrity, really has no intention of answering any more questions, much to Asumi’s disappointment.

「I asked a completely meaningless question.」

On the other hand, M starts to feel uncomfortable.

「What do you mean? I did you a special favor! I haven’t even told Juugo about this!」

「I..I understand, sp please don’t get angry. Thank you for the valuable information.」

「Yes, and this is just between us. Don’t tell the others.」

「O..of course.」

「OK, then it’s Asumi’s turn next.」

「OK but… how come you know about me and Tsujimi-kun?」

「That’s because um… I’m an earthbound spirit.」

M‘s evasive behavior made Asumi feel suspicious, but she decided to tell her about their relationship as promised.

After all, you can find out about them by doing a little research anyways.

So Asumi began to speak, 「Tsujimi-kun and I were classmates in the Fifth High School. At the time I was appointed as one of the candidates for student council president. The student council president election was a contest in which the selected candidates competed to decide who would be the next student council president. At that time, Tsujimi-kun helped me along with the rest of my classmates. Tsujimi-kun led the way in supporting me. Tsujim-kun often said, ‘Do the right thing for justice’. In a sense, we held similar ideals.」

The expression on Asumi’s face, which had been so nostalgic, turned dark at this point.

「However, towards the end of the studend body presidential race, I fell into the dirty trap of the candidate I was competing with at the time. I was accused of a crime I did not commit…. And Tsujimi-kun believed it. As a result, I lost. With a stigma that never went away. I was immediately kicked out of the 5gh High School. I ended up in the 7th High School, where I currently am. Together with my friends Daisei, Misao-kun, and Kishitani-kun.」

「…」

「It wasn’t until sometime later that I heard rumors. Tsujimi-kun committed a violent act against the man who became the student council president of the Fifth High School. As a result, Tsujimi-kun dropped out of school and disappeared. I immediately searched for  Tsujimi-kun. However I couldn’t find him at the time.」

「Oh I see.」

「Let me just say this. Tsujimi-kun did nothing wrong. It’s my fault…」

Asumi lets out a big exhale after saying all that.

M placed her hand on Asumi’s.

「Does Asumi-chan still like Tetsu-kun?」

「Wha? What!?」

「Do you?」

M approaches Asumi, as she blushes and looks down.

「I..I like, or rather, I respect him…」

「Jeez, just tell me the truth already.」

Pushed by M‘s teasing, Asumi bowed her head and forced out an answer.

「I like him. However…「

「Huuuh!?」

「Well… I confessed to him, or rather, he confessed to me…」

「Well that means, it’s mutual love!」

「No, well… I might be mistaken… maybe Tsujimi-kun didn’t mean it like that… but I still like him… very much, I mean… I still like him…」

Asumi’s face turned bright red, and she was so embarrassed that tears welled up in her eyes.

「A..Asumi-chan?」

「I’m sorry. I’ve never really talked about these things with anyone. I’ve had these feelings for a long time, so I couldn’t control them…」
