「The answer to the whole crime in this alley. 」

Tensai began her show.

「There are two pieces of evidence here. Do you know what this black semicircle thing is, D’arc? 」

D’arc yelped upon seeing what the thin thing Tensai was holding in her hand.

「Is it a jellyfish? 」

「Very good joke, D’arc. It is a parachute」

D’arc felt depressed, while Tensai pointed towards the sky.

「When the robber passed above this place, he or she tied the treasure to a parachute, and dropped it into this alleyway. Meanwhile, the robber continued escaping, drawing the police’s attention. The treasure floated down with the parachute into this dark alleyway where not many people pass by. This was so that the robber’s partners can come here later and pick up the treasure」

「I see」

「However, it seems that the plan failed」

「What do you mean by that? 」

「Look at the surroundings」

Trash was scattered in the place that Tensai pointed to. No, it was not just where she pointed. If one looked around, it looked as if the garbage was scattered around the entire alley.

「Close your eyes and imagine this, D’arc. What led up to the current situation? 」

As Tensai had told him to, D’arc closed his eyes and imagined in his mind.

Most probably, this alleyway was originally not that messy. The garbage was in the garbage cans, and the cardboard boxes and the wooden crates had been properly stacked at the side of the road. Although there was no light here, it should have been cleared as a path where people can pass through. So why was the garbage all over the alley now?

「Were they searching for something? 」

「Yes, on top of that, it seems that they were rather desperate. However, they could not find what they were looking for」

At Tensai’s words, which were whispered in his ears, D’arc could vividly imagine the person’s actions in his mind.

「On top of this, he or she had forgotten to take the parachute. Because of this, I could prove my theory」

While D’arc opened his eyes, Tensai continued.

「The question now is, who took the treasure? 」

D’arc thought about it, but he could not come up with anything. Then, Tensai said to D’arc.

「If someone passes by here, it would be by coincidence. But why would someone coincidentally pass by here so late at night? What is this place? It is a dark alleyway in the middle of the residential district, far from the bustling town area. What would be the reason to loiter around this place? 」

Then, she pointed at the end of the alleyway.

「What can you see there? 」

In the direction Tensai was pointing at was a convenience store. At that point, D’arc realized.

「Does that mean that the person passed by this alleyway to go to the convenience store? 」

「Or perhaps it could be the person’s way back home. That is probably the answer」

「I see, that is the Tensai I know of」

「Amazing」. D’arc smiled while clapping his hands.

It seemed that Tensai was satisfied with D’arc’s response because she smiled proudly.

「Now then, we shall find the person who had taken the treasure」

She smirked in a fearless way, and then started walking. D’arc also followed her while feeling excited at her theory.

It was already past noon, and the convenience store was somewhat crowded.

    Tensai waited in line in front of the cash register. When her turn finally came, she smirked at the woman attendant who said, 「thank you for waiting」. 「Err, Ms. Attendant. Could you show me yesterday’s video from the security camera? 」

    The attendant made a dumbfounded expression at her sudden request.

「Um……who are you to ask for our security footage? 」

    The attendant seemed troubled, while Tensai Ikkyū smiled fearlessly and said.

「Oh me? I am a passing detective」

    While Tensai smiled, everyone else there could not believe their eyes. The entire convenience store noisily chatted.

「Why wasn’t there anything? 」

    It was the second campus of the Nanae Island University. From the block with rooms for club activities for this campus, such an angry shout could be heard. The shout was from a club room with a sign saying it was the『Sixth Literature Club』. A guy and a woman were facing each other in the room.

「That being said, I had searched for it you know」

「Hahaha」, the man cackled in a very frivolous way. The woman glared at him.

「That is why I call you Osomatsu [1. TL Note: In reference to one of the main characters of a Japanese manga turned anime “Osomatsu-kun” and “Osomatsu-san”. Osomatsu is the eldest brother out of the sextuplets, while Shū Todomatsu’s name “Todomatsu”  is also the name of the youngest of the sextuplets. In this case, Yukihime mistakenly calls Shū Todomatsu for the other brother Osomatsu].」

    The person that was so indignant was the second-year architecture student, Yukihime Fugi.

「I have to point it out again, but I am Todomatsu」

    Shū Todomatsu, who is a first-year overall make-up course student, corrected her with a troubled expression.

「I had prepared so much, and was finally able to enter the Ikkaku estate. Yet, why do you have to fail at the last moment?! I did my job! I had stolen it and dropped the gemstone in the case tied to a parachute in the alleyway! After that, I purposely got caught in the park! I endured the long and frustrating questioning by the police the whole night! Why is there no treasure when I had gone through so much trouble! 」

    While Yukihime walked up close to him, Shū laughed in a cheerful manner.

「It seems that it had been taken by a passer-by」

「I cannot accept such a coincidence! This is definitely someone planning against us! 」

「Errr, I don’t think so but……」

「Shut up, Choromatsu [2. TL Note: Third eldest among the sextuplets of Japanese manga-turned anime “Osomatsu-Kun” and “Osomatsu-san”]! Besides, why do you, who was only supposed to collect it, come back home so cheerfully?! You should know who the person who snatched it away from us is, right!? 」

「I don’t know at all」

    Shū seemed very cheerful and did not seem to feel any sort of guilt or responsibility. Yukihime finally slapped him in the face.

    Yukihim and Shū were members of a robbery organization that works around the world. In this island, ((Matsuri))’s purpose was to find ((Nanana Ryūgajō’s Buried Treasure)) which Nanana Ryūgajō who was now dead had left. Although ((Matsuri)) was eyeing this, it was not easy to go into Nanae Island. Even if they tried to enter the island conspicuously, the very rigid line of defense that surrounded the island made it impossible to enter the island. Additionally, even if one was to enter the island through the main gate fearlessly, there was a strict migration check when entering the island, so there was no choice. If there was one hole in the security net of the island, it was that the check on students entering the island was quite loose.  

    That is why the young two were chosen from ((Matsuri)).

    Yukihime and Shū had received the instructions, and had come to the Nanae Island half a year ago. They started by taking their time to collect various information.

    The first target the duo decided on was the current top of the GREAT7 that had made this island, the one member of the highest authority of the Nanae Island Overseeing Committee and the de facto ruler of this Nanae Island, Shunjū Ikkaku. It was the blue gemstone in his estate that they decided to target specifically.

    After completing the thorough preparation while communicating with their boss (who was off island) the two had finally gone according to plan yesterday night.

    Yukihime had gone through several security layers, and finally succeeded in obtaining the target object. Then, she had escaped the estate through blaring security sirens. She ran on top of the roofs of the residential district, and deposited the treasure at that specific place. Then, she ran to the 18th Park, a popular spot at night that she had already decided upon. Then, she had been caught with the normal people who had been in the park, and was released.

    There was no problem, and everything was according to plan.

    Now, what remained was that Shū, who is officially her partner although she did not accept it, had to just retrieve the treasure and bring it back to their base.

    Despite this, they were in the current circumstances.  

「Anyways, we have to somehow manage it by ourselves somehow」

「Of course! I definitely would not report this to the boss! 」

    If the boss knew of this, she did not know how disappointed he would be at them. She must avoid this at all costs.

    Yukihime closed her eyes for a moment and calmed herself. Then, she said to Todomatsu in her usual calm manner.

「We must find the person who had snatched the treasure no matter what. After getting back the treasure, we can let the person know how foolish he or she had been. Then, we will swiftly eliminate them」

    Her cold expression was that of a perfectionist. Shū muttered, 「Hysterical girls are so scary」. Then, he was slapped by Yukihime once again.
