Over the Infinite Chapter 14 Part 2
Tsuna 「Quite similar to you. Originally I was planning to live a life where I could maintain my dignity as a human being, but my life is already 1000 times better than what it used to be.」
So far, I don’t plan to spread the word that I’m aiming for the 100th floor.
Lyrica 「1000 times…? What kind of life were you even living?」
Tsuna 「If you want to hear about poverty and unhappiness, I’ll tell you, but you’ll probably be grossed out.」
Lyrica 「Oh, sorry. I’m fine then.」
I can still talk about my poor life as a funny story thanks to the premise that it wasn’t as bad as Cliff-san though. If I start talking about Cliff-san, I’m sure I’ll cry.
Tsuna 「Well, I guess you’ll make your debut soon. … You’re quite strong, aren’t you.」
Lyrica 「… Err, I, I guess so. Do I look strong? I’m small, so I usually get a lot of ridicule at first. Ehehe.」
Tsuna 「I can kind of tell how strong people are so yeah. For now, I don’t want to pick a fight with you since you also have an almost unknown power called magic.」
An unknown power is a threat; a battle without the opponent’s information is generally not funny at all. With the Minotaur’s ((Intimidation of the Strong)) and the thingy that got rid of cat ears, I’ve had a terrible experience.
Lyrica 「Hm, … I’m sorry, I might have been the one underestimating. I guess it makes sense that someone who completed the trial dungeon is irregularly strong.」
Tsuna 「Nah It’s not that much of a big deal. Also, I don’t think there will be any adventurers that look down on you based on your appearance here.」
Even with Yuki’s looks, the people don’t react oddly. He’s even welcomed. There’s probably someone much more bizarre out there. Someone whose skills and looks don’t match at all. … The Dungeon Master was already that type. I kind of want to see the old person who looks like a kid trope. Well, I guess there will be people who would like to prpr instead of looking down. Most likely in threads. [1. TL Note: prpr is an internet expression to want to lick someone/something because they’re really attractive.]

Tsuna 「Come to think of it, you have more experience than me as an adventurer, but I’m the senior in this city.」
Lyrica 「Oh god… Before entering you were just a guy in such tattered clothes, but in only four days, I have been overtaken.」
Tsuna 「You can call me Senpai if you want.」
Lyrica 「I would like to refrain from doing that. … I have had this job for over three years, you know.」
We had basically just met and were having such a casual chat, but Lyrica was also an irregular type. Two months later, we were told that she officially made her debut after completing the dungeon, alone.
-2-
In the afternoon, between debut procedures, I told Yuki that I met Lyrica during lunch.
Yuki 「Oh the girl we met at the entrance? So she did register as an adventurer.」
Tsuna 「According to the Dungeon Master, our examination time was exceptionally short, so even if the other people at the gate back then could make it to registration, they weren’t in time for the training course. Lyrica said it was just yesterday that she managed to enter the city properly.」
I wonder where they stayed. Maybe there’s a lodging facility for the people who are judging.
Yuki 「Oh, it must be stressful going through a long examination process without being allowed in the city. But normally maybe waiting a month for the beginner’s training course doesn’t really matter? A month will pass while they try to complete the dungeon, right? For us we completed the trial dungeon quite fast so it was important, but still.」
That is actually quite fair. If it takes 6 months on average, waiting another month doesn’t sound that bad. Debuting so soon like us isn’t normal and Philos and the others taking half a month is also exceptional.
Yuki 「Anyway, I’ve never met a magician before, so it would be nice if I could ask a lot about it.」
Tsuna 「You’re quite talented so maybe you’ll be able to learn stuff from her. Oh, by the way did you get back the results of your aptitude test?」
The aptitude test is a test that checks your aptitude for the magic we learned in the Dungeon Master’s room.
You use a magic conductor which is something like a crystal ball that allows magic power to flow easily, and in the test you let your power flow into it; it was a boring and time-consuming test. Yesterday it took up all my time.
Yuki 「Not yet. Weren’t you told it would take a week?」
Tsuna 「What, it take that long? I should’ve asked… I was hoping to use magic in the next dungeon.」
Yuki 「That’s a pity. But if it’s you, you’ll be fine without magic and stuff right?」
Tsuna 「I’m worried because of what has happened so far, but the instructor did say I won’t face any problems. For now I need to get to my goal, the 10th floor.」
~o~
We have just made our debut, and the next attempt will count as our first actual dungeon completion; and we know which dungeon that’s going to be. Although the timing of challenging may be different, all newbies go for the same places. It’s the Infinite Corridor, where you go up to the 10th floor of the main dungeon of this city. This is our goal. However, there’s one rule which is that adventurers must attempt on their own. Even if you’re in a party, apparently when you join the dungeon you’re automatically alone. I was told that our rank G we will receive is more of a provisional licence for newbies until completion of the 10th floor. While you’re in rank G, you can’t be in a party for dungeons. You can’t enter other dungeons. Not even the trial dungeon.
Originally, the Minotaur fight in the 5th floor in the trial was meant for a party of around six people, so the Infinite Corridor is meant to be a way to ensure adventurers are strong on their own as well. You may notice by now, but it’s basically a way to make sure there’s no adventurer who just followed strong people in the trial. It’s the second challenge for newbies to reassure G rank fighter’s strength.
This also can mean that for people like us who fought Minotaur with few people, the Infinite Corridor shouldn’t be that hard until the 10th floor. Just because it is an actual dungeon, it doesn’t mean that it’s hard mode from the start. I’ve heard the difficulty strikes up from above the 30th floor. So, our next aim is to solo clear until the 10th floor in one go. After that we will be in rank F, then finally be official buddies again.
By the way, because of the timing of us completing the trial, we have been given 6 days of not being allowed to enter the dungeon. We haven’t even finished the process of becoming a rank G adventurer, so whilst Philos has already started their attempt, we’re likely to be the slowest to start completing the dungeon. Probably because there aren’t many people who complete the trial just after their training.
Tsuna 「But even we have time, we also have a lot to do.」
No matter how promised the easy victory is, there is no option to do nothing during the wait. If it was outside the city I may have given myself a rest, but here there’s just so many opportunities to improve my skills. The magic aptitude test is a good example.
Tsuna 「What are you planning to do in the next three days? No, two and a half days left. You’re going in as soon as the time limit ends, right?」
Yuki「I have a video meeting the day before, so I think I’ll just take a break. I have a course about “classes” tomorrow, but the other two days will be mainly preparing equipment and practising skills I learned in the trial. There was a talk about skill levels so I want to practise even if I don’t know the actual numbers. 」
Tsuna 「Oh, other than training, I was thinking it would be fine if I brought some potions and a large amount of food.」
Yuki is actually quite cautious when it comes to preparation. As if suddenly walking into the trial dungeon didn’t happen, he seems to be putting effort. Well, he was already prepared well when he came to this city for the dungeon, so he’s actually just returning to his original habits.
