Over the Infinite Chapter 27 Part 2
「Where else have you been? 」
「Let’s see, the library on the second floor, the interview room, and I’ve been to the third floor for lectures a few times. I can’t go above the fourth floor. 」
「The fourth floor and above require debut clearance. 」
「Underground, I guess the only thing I’ve used is the training area. I heard we can rent a warehouse, but I haven’t needed it yet. 」
It makes sense; before debuting, you probably don’t have much stuff that requires a warehouse. For small items, you can just keep them in the dorm room.
「Then, let’s look around the other parts. Tsuna-kun and Yuki-chan might already know these places, though. 」
「No, actually, there might be things we don’t know either. 」
「Right. 」
After finishing our tea, the four of us started moving around.

[ In front of the Reception ]
「You probably know this, but this is the guild’s reception area, where you registered.
Before debut, there’s not much need to come here, but this is where you take quests and report accomplishments.
Also, system updates and important notices are posted here. 」
Everyone who enters the guild hall normally knows the reception, but before debut, it’s unclear what exactly goes on here.
Quests like ‘defeat a certain number of monsters’ are listed on the bulletin board, but you don’t need to physically take the listing to the reception. Just inform the receptionist.
Come to think of it, I still haven’t asked the receptionist’s name. Seems like it might remain a mystery forever.
「How does this quest bulletin board work? It always seems to be changing whenever I look at it. 」
If you look away for a moment, the contents may suddenly change.
「It randomly displays available quests. Prioritizing those that can be accepted. Mostly, you use the terminals provided there. 」
「What exactly are quests? 」
Lilika probably wouldn’t know.
「They’re like benchmarks for adventurer activities. ‘Today, I’ll advance this many floors’, ‘I’ll defeat this many monsters’ or ‘I’ll collect this many items’, that kind of thing.
Completing them earns you Guild Points, which can be used for various things. 」
「What happens if you fail? 」
「There’s no penalty. But the number and type of quests you can take are limited by your rank, so you have to be selective. 」
「I feel like I always take quests to hunt Hound Dogs and Goblins. 」
「Those are basic ones. If you’re in the lower floors, you’re sure to find them. 」
Those creatures even appear in floors where Minotaurs are just common mobs. Seems out of place.
「What about Guild Points? 」
「You can use them to buy skills, expand facility services, and other things… like a special currency only usable here. 」
「Wait, you can buy skills? 」
Lilika seemed unaware.
I wouldn’t have known until my debut day if Philos hadn’t told me.
「They’re not cheap, but you can buy them. Let’s move to the Guild Shop next. 」
[ Guild Shop ]
Also on the first floor, a bit away from the reception, is the Guild Shop.
Before clearing the trial, some mysterious force prevents entry.
It’s not very large, but there are more people here than at the reception. They’re probably checking how many more points they need for their desired skills.
「Lilika can’t buy anything yet since she doesn’t have GP, but this is the Guild Shop.
You can see what’s available and make purchases using the numerous terminals here, and a staff member will bring the items to you.
If you’re unsure, the staff can assist you directly. 」
I checked my card on the terminal, and many of the skills I could buy were grayed out due to insufficient GP.
A downside of our rapid advancement. A bit hard to see.
「Wow, Tsuna, that’s amazing. So many skills become available at E-rank.
But, maybe it won’t be like that for me since aptitude varies. 」
Kuro peeked at the screen from the side.
「I’m way short on GP, though. 」
「E-rank? 」
「Initial debut is G, advancing to the 10th floor of the Infinite Corridor is F, and reaching the 30th floor makes you E. 」
「You two are already that high up. Is it easy to rank up? 」
「No, no, we’re just unusual. I’ve just barely made it to F. That’s more the norm. 」
So Kuro has also defeated the Panda. But our E-rank wasn’t entirely earned by our own strength, so it’s nothing to brag about.
「Huh? 」
I noticed the skill ((Weapon Break)) on the list of purchasable skills.
Isn’t that the skill Arsha used to break my weapons repeatedly? Can I already buy that?
Similar skills like ((Shield Break)) and ((Armor Break)) are also available.
「Hey Kuro, is ((Weapon Break)) really this cheap? The way Arsha used it seemed incredibly lethal. 」
「Oh, that’s because several prerequisites overlapped. Normally, it’s the first weapon skill a (Blacksmith) learns. 」
「What? That’s crazy for a class named (Blacksmith). Sounds more like a combat class. 」
So, it’s a basic skill for (Blacksmiths). In PvP, it’d be almost invincible. Not everyone carries extra cards or has ((Instant Equip)).
「No, no, it’s just that my sister is unusual.
Normally, that skill reduces your weapon’s durability to remove twice as much from the opponent’s. Usually, you’d need to hit about ten times to actually break a weapon, and yours might break too. 」
「So that’s how it works… Maybe it was so effective because of a rank difference in weapons. 」
「My sister also trained extensively with ((Weapon Break)), but mainly the issue was the difference in weapon rank.
Blacksmiths usually use ((Weapon Crush)), a higher-level skill, but even that wouldn’t do what she did.
The uniqueness of her Gungnir, which changes its weapon performance and rank depending on the user, played a big role. 」
Gungnir, that spear?
So, I was fighting Odin’s main weapon with my regular sword?
「Gungnir? Oh, that’s why the spear she threw at Tsuna came back to her. 」
「Do you know what Gungnir is, Yuki-chan? 」
「It’s from one of the mythologies in our previous world. Used by the god Odin, it’s a spear that never misses its target and always returns to the thrower’s hand. It guarantees victory… a divine artifact. 」
「I doubt it’s a complete reproduction. 」
The spear missed me and didn’t seem to have the guaranteed hit property.
Nobody else here would know about Gungnir, is it also created by the Dungeon Master?
「My sister said she got it from the Dungeon Master… Oh, you two lived in the same place as the Dungeon Master, right? 」
「Yeah, in a country called Japan. The mythology Gungnir comes from is from a different country, though. 」
「Then there might be other weapons like that, legendary ones from the Dungeon Master’s previous world. 」
There sure are.
「My wooden sword is one. Fuhige Kiri. It was handcrafted by the Dungeon Master as a reward for clearing the trial. 」
「That’s a terrible name. 」
「Is it based on a legendary weapon too? 」
「Watanabe… well, it’s based on a sword from a real historical figure, which had a legend of slaying a demon named Ibaraki-doji. The original sword is called Hige Kiri. Since this is a wooden sword and can’t cut beards, it’s Fuhige Kiri. 」
It’s complicated to bring up the story about Watanabe no Tsuna. I’m not related at all.
[1. TL Note: ‘髭切’ (Hige Kiri), is a real historical sword associated with Watanabe no Tsuna. The name translates to ‘Beard Cutter,’ and it’s famous for its legend of slaying the demon Ibaraki-doji. The original sword was owned by Watanabe no Tsuna and was given to him by Minamoto no Yorimitsu. The wooden sword is named ‘不髭切’ (Fuhige Kiri), which means ‘Not a Beard Cutter’.]
「That’s such a random name. 」
「Maybe the Dungeon Master just took names from myths and legends because it was easier. 」
You see that often in RPGs. Hige Kiri isn’t common, but if it’s a sword, names like Masamune or Muramasa are pretty typical.
「Is there a Dojikiri? 」
「Maybe. There might be a Fudojikiri. 」
「Is that also a legendary weapon? It sounds similar to Hige Kiri. 」
「As a sword known for slaying demons, Dojikiri Yasutsuna is more famous. It’s known for killing the demon Shuten-doji. 」
Dojikiri Yasutsuna ranks higher than Hige Kiri. It’s one of the “Five Great Swords” of Japan.
「Dojikiri Yasutsuna… 」
「Wait, does that exist here? 」
「Yes. One of the (Arc Saber) clan masters use it. It’s also made by the Dungeon Master. 」
(Arc Saber), that’s one of the top clans.
I wonder if that person is in the (Samurai) class.
「I can’t keep up with this conversation… 」
Lilika seemed overwhelmed by our geeky chat.
「Sorry, back to the topic. Here, you can buy items to learn skills and expand various services.
For example, the size of your warehouse on the second underground floor, additional functions for your status card… It’s tough for newbies to manage this well.
Oh, my sister also complains about not having enough GP, so it must be tough even higher up. 」
Not enough GP even at the higher ranks?
「GP is different from money, right? Yen? 」
「Yes, different. You can’t buy GP with money, but you can convert GP into money. GP is more valuable, so not many people do that exchange. 」
[ Merchandise Shop ]
Next, we visited the Merchandise Shop on the first floor.
This store sells adventurer-related goods and videos. It’s my first time entering.
This is just a branch; the main store is somewhere else, apparently occupying an entire building.
「There’s a lot here. Mostly goods of people I don’t know. 」
「Well, Yuki-chan and the others are still new, so there are many unfamiliar people. 」
「Will I end up like this, turned into merchandise? 」
「You need permission for goods to be sold. There might be unauthorized stuff, though. 」
