Chapter 69 Part 1
New Encounters? (1) ~Premonition of a storm~
June began today.
Daytime temperatures had been gradually rising since late May, but probably because of the abundance of greenery, mornings and evenings were still cool in Saiou City, where Yuu lived.
There were still more sunny days than rainy days.
Though, in two weeks, the rainy season would probably begin in earnest.
In the 21st century, when the heat wave had become intense, heat stroke prevention was strongly argued for, and even public schools were apparently equipped with air conditioners, but at Sairyou Academy, where Yuu attended in this era, only a portion of the administration building had them, and classrooms had only ceiling-mounted fans.
Nevertheless, just by opening the windows, the classrooms on the fourth floor could get a supply of fairly cool breeze.
It was exactly at times like this that if you were in a co-ed school, you could enjoy sneaking a look at the girls’ uniforms, as they changed to thinner ones along with the change of the season, and the sweet smell of girls could be felt in the classroom, or so it should have been.
Unfortunately, however, they only had boys in their classrooms.
Perhaps because of this, they could concentrate on their classes without being distracted by unnecessary things, ironically.
◇ ◇ ◇
After all classes for the day were over, Yuu said goodbye to his friends and left the second school building.
Today, too, about a dozen girls who were waiting for the boys to leave came into view.
The color pattern of the girls’ sailor uniforms, which had now changed to summer uniforms, was reversed from the winter uniforms, with a white background and light purple sleeves and collars. The ribbons were pink and the skirts still light purple, no change there.
When a high school girl’s uniform was fashionable, the person wearing it would also look cute.
When they noticed Yuu coming out, the girls went kyaa-kyaa and waved at him, so he responded with a bright smile on his face as he walked past them into the rear garden.
The truth was, if you got close enough or looked at the back, you would be able to see through their underwear, which was the good quality of summer clothes.
However, rather than taking the trouble to go to that length, Yuu was more interested in meeting the three members of the student council.
Today was Friday and there was a regular meeting of the student council.
For the student council, the nearest event was the inter-class ball game competition coming up in a week.
However, an executive committee was established in late May, centered around the classes from the P.E. department, and had begun to work following the proposal planned by the student council.
It seemed that the student council would provide support until the day of the event.
As usual, he walked down the path in the rear garden with benches placed at both sides.
There were already couples or perhaps two girls sitting sandwiching one boy enjoying after-school rendezvouses. It was a usual scene.
Unlike the high school students in his former world, it was difficult for boys to spend time outside after school, so they probably chose to spend time together inside the school.
Once they had deepened their relationships to a certain extent, maybe they would spend time together at either of their homes.
Yuu was walking along without paying them any mind, but then he noticed a familiar figure standing up ahead.
That’s…
A handsome guy who especially stood out among the boys.
It was a third-year student who had cheered with him at a kendo tournament just last week, Ichijo Kouki.
The tall, slender, long-haired beauty leaning to his right as she looked at Yuu was probably the girl who achieved second place in the tournament, Hayase Mika.
Which meant, the girl clinging closely to his left, holding his hand and resting her head on his shoulder, was Ishima Mariko.
Mariko was in her school uniform, but Mika was in her gym clothes. Which probably meant they were enjoying their rendezvous before she went to attend her club activities.
In order to get to the boarding house, where the student council office was located, he inevitably had to pass in front of them.
As he passed in front of them, Yuu slightly bowed at them, and Kouki seemed to have noticed him, too, as he showed a very fresh smile and waved at him with only one hand that was free.
He must have told Mika and Mariko, who noticed Yuu, that he was a junior who came to cheer on her in the kendo tournament.
With her long wavy black hair swaying in the air, Mariko directed an angelic smile at him, and Mika, probably because she had trained in Kendo, said in a clear voice, 「Thank you for your support the other day!」.
Slightly shaking his head to imply, 「Don’t mention it.」, Yuu passed by them, and when he made it to the front of the boarding house, he heard the footsteps of someone running lightly toward him from behind.
「Yuu-kun!」
「Ah, Amy!」
Running toward him with such a vigor that it seemed as if she was going to charge at him, her flaxen twin-tail hair swinging in the air, Eimi took Yuu’s arm.
「Let’s go together!」
「Yes.」
All that was left was to go up the stairs to the second floor.
It was only that, but maybe happy as she got touched by Yuu, Eimi leaned her body against him with a radiant smile on her face.
When they climbed the stairs and arrived at the front of the student council room, maybe they had arrived at about the same time, they met Sayaka and Riko who were about to open the door.
「「Yuu-kun!」」
「Good afternoon~!」
「Good afternoon, Sayaka-senpai, Riko-senpai.」
When Yuu called their names and greeted them, both of them smiled happily.
With Eimi still snuggled up to his side, although she had let go of his arm, he approached the two.
When he took Sayaka’s hand and squeezed it without hesitation, she squeezed it back, albeit bashfully.
「Riko-senpai, it’s been a while, hasn’t it?」
「Fufufu, I guess so.」
When Yuu reached out his other hand, Riko held out hers toward him, too, albeit shyly.
When he took her hand and intertwined his fingers with hers, vermillion appeared on Riko’s cheek.
◇ ◇ ◇
「As such, the preparations for the inter-class ball game competition seem to be going well. As Yuu-kun suggested, since the boys will be participating starting this year, the motivation of the girls in each grade, including the executive committee, is far beyond that of previous years, after all.」
「Is that so? That’s great then. Was the boys’ cheering for the tournament effective?」
「It’s only a part of them, but seeing that some clubs have achieved the best results ever, the other clubs are also anticipating it, you see.」
「My friend also said that it’s going to be worth practicing from now on!」
Until last year, only girls participated in the inter-class ball game competition, and participation by boys, who were only observing, was optional. In fact, it seemed that they hardly ever showed up.
In addition, since Class 7 was in the P.E. department, it would not be fair to make it a class competition just like that.
For this reason, it seemed that the girls of Class 7 were divided into six groups and assigned to the six regular classes.
What Yuu proposed when he joined the student council was to create groups from the students in the boys’ classes and assign them to each class to cheer for them.
However, if they joined only on the day of the event, they would not be able to become familiar with each other, so they would ask them to show up from the practice period so that they could get to know each other better.
And then, before they established the executive committee for the inter class ball game competition, the student council gathered the club representatives, who were also students from the P.E. department, and proposed the idea.
At the inter class ball game competition, the P.E. department would be working behind the scenes, serving as committee members and referees.
In exchange, the student council would make as many boys as possible participate in cheering for them in the tournament.
Even though all the students in the P.E. Department belonged to athletic clubs, only a few, such as the kendo and archery clubs, were able to enjoy that benefit during the spring tournament.
Even so, looking at the fact that they managed to achieve the highest result ever, or close to that, as they received cheering from boys, including Yuu who took the initiative in participating, the effect could be seen clearly.
It seemed to give a good opportunity not only to the players who participated in the tournament, but also the reserve club members, who were able to get close to the boy sitting close to them as they cheered together.
The girls in the regular course who participated in the inter class ball game tournament were also taking their team selection more seriously this year, as the boys would be cheering them on.
The events were volleyball, football, and dodgeball.
Why dodgeball for high school students? So Yuu curiously thought, but it seemed that since the other two events had pretty much a fixed number of people who got to participate in the matches, they chose it as a way to adjust the number of left-over students.
As such, including reserves, who were obliged to sub in unless they were injured or sick, there would be 8 players for volleyball, 13 for football, and of the remaining students, 10 or so would participate in dodgeball.
Naturally, those who belonged to the corresponding clubs would be assigned to other events.
