Volume 2 Chapter 1 Part 12

Normally, the chamber where the throne room has been placed should have been a magnificent sight to behold… but what Natalia saw in there was nothing like that. Instead, a horrifying sight was spreading right before her very eyes.

The area around the throne turned into a sea of blood, and more than a dozen men, women, children, old people and even the one who seemed to be a Lord were lying all around it.

And in the very middle of that sea of blood, a monster was wriggling.

It was a giant that could be so tall as to reach the ceiling of the throne room while standing. The giant had his back to the entrance, holding something in each hand.

Wondering what it was, she observed it, and Natalia regretted it almost immediately. What the giant had in his hand was a man in a robe that looked like a Mage, and the giant was chewing on him like a snack.

「A troll from the Fomorian world… 」

Moreno whistled silently.

「What is it doing here though? 」

Lassic asked

「The appearance of the corpses suggests that the Lord and his family were killed by the sword. The Lord probably killed his family and then committed suicide, and then the Mage used the energy of the Crest that manifested itself in order turn it into a Chaos Core and converge that monster. Unfortunately for him though, it’s not the type of monster that can be controlled. The magician was killed by that monster, and now he is eaten by it as a result. 」

「But why would he do such a thing?! 」

「Maybe that is just how desperate the rest of the Gerje house has gotten? 」
「But to go so far as to kill the members of your own family?! 」

Natalia felt intense indignation at such a notion.

「I agree, but please tell that to the Lord who committed suicide over there, not us. 」

Moreno shrugged his shoulders.

「Anyway, you two can step down. I’ll stop that giant. 」

Natalia stepped forward and readied her sword and shield. The giant noticed her and bared its fangs at her to threaten her.

「Lady Natalia… 」

With a wry smile, Lasik lined up next to Natalia.

「I appreciate your loyalty, but you don’t have to be so enthusiastic by yourself. 」

「No, don’t worry about me. It is the duty and honor of a subordinate Lord to become a scapegoat for the sake of their master. All that I ask of you is to take care of my child whom I will be leaving behind. 」

「I think it’s a good idea, but unfortunately I have no intention of backing down. If it’s a monster that the Nabir clan summoned in exchange for their lives, I guess it’s a matter of courtesy to respond to their determination by putting my own life on the line. 」

(Even if we’re not going to deal with it politely.)

「I am against it as well. If you fall here, Lord Lassic, it will be just what the enemy wanted. 」
Moreno said.

「It’s only by taking the castle on my own that I can let the world know that I’ve conquered Selvis. I can’t back down now. 」

Lassic stated while withdrawing his men.

「What are you going to do then? 」

「IA simple thing, really. Just kill that giant. 」

「You’re definitely right. 」

Moreno let out a laugh.

「If you can still laugh, then maybe you should go and defeat it for me? 」

「Oh, so now you want me to do it for you? 」

Moreno said so and held a magic wand in his left hand.

(Is there anything I can do to help here?)

Natalia thought, since she had no intention of retreating. She drew her sword and shield and approached the giant in front of her. The troll snorted and looked down at Natalia and licked its tongue.

「Yes, aim for me. 」

Natalia raised her hands provocatively and swung her sword and shield.

Seeing that, the troll casually threw the half-eaten Mage at Natalia.

Natalia raised the shield in her left hand, preparing to receive the blow. The trolls fists were strong enough to cause the shockwaves of wind with its every swing, but Natalia did not back down. Her Crest shined brightly in front of the shield, and the giant’s fist were stopped by it.

「Kuh… 」

She thought that she should be okay even when taking the troll’s fists head on, but the shock was so intense that Natalia felt like her own body had been torn apart. Her whole body was numb, and she fell on her knees on the spot. The troll stared at its own fist and let out a terrifying scream.

「I told you there is no need to get all unreasonable. 」

Lassic slipped by Natalia’s side with a wry smile, then leapt high and tried to swing his sword down on the protruding belly of the troll. The troll instinctively lifted its leg and kicked Lassic’s sword away with its knee. Lassic got knocked off, but rolled backwards and landed on his feet, but his balance was broken and he staggered a few steps and put his hands on Natalia’s shoulders to support his body.

「I’m sorry. 」

「No, feel free to use me however you want. 」

Natalia answered with a straight face.

The troll had cracked its knee and was bleeding blue-black blood as a result of getting slashed by Lassic’s sword. Feeling the extreme pain, the troll raged and began to rampage, swinging its limbs around like crazy.

Lasik and Natalia hurriedly escaped, splitting left and right and rolling on the floor.

「It moves awfully fast for its enormous size. 」

Lassic smiled wryly.

He saw an opening and thought of jumping in to capitalize on it, but if he got hit by it, that would be the end of him.

「I believe you usually live in caves and move around at night, right? Then you should technically dislike sunlight, right? 」

Moreno calls out to the troll as if he was talking to his friend and begins to wield his wand.

「Collect the light! 」

Along the ceiling, walls, and floor, Moreno created layers of light-reflecting surfaces. The sunshine coming in through the window got scattered throughout the dim hall, making it bright like as it was the middle of a sunny day.

The troll covered its face with its hands and groaned painfully.

「Now! 」

Lassic saw an opportunity that he needed and charged at the troll, with Natalia following closely behind him. The two run towards the troll from the left and right and thrust blades into each of its legs. A troll’s skin was as hard as rock, but their weapons contained the power of their Crests, so the two blades were deeply buried in it.

The troll roared loudly and went on a rampage again, but he lost his balance due to an injury to his legs and swung its hand as if trying to grab something before it fell flat on its back. The throne standing in its way was shattered into pieces.

Lassic and Natalia tried to follow up, but the troll swung its leg around and again distanced himself from them.

「Stubborn son of a bitch. 」

Lasik smiled wryly. It was the first time he had ever fought such a huge monster.

「Exactly. 」

Natalia nodded as she gasped.

「I don’t want to use Origin Magic because it’s utterly vulgar… 」

Muttering, Moreno pulled a small piece of wood out of his robe pocket and lightly touched it with the tip of his wand. Pieces of wood ignite, giving off smoke and flames. Then, throwing a burning piece of wood at the troll who is about to stand up, he wielded his magic wand.

「Explode! 」

When Moreno finished his incantation, the piece of wood exploded in bright red fire. The troll’s entire body was instantly engulfed in flames, but by the time it subsided, the giant had already stood back up.

「Were you not supposed to be bad with fire? 」

Moreno frowned.

「Since I used so much unsightly magic, I wanted to at least kill it in a cool way. 」

「I guess it’s convenient for you, huh? 」

Lasik burst into laughter.

「Apparently, he fought too carefully. It’s true that hits blows are powerful, but his movements are clumsy, and perhaps because it can’t see with its eyes, its aim was weak. I thought that it will be tougher to determine its movements, but it was not since it was just raging all the time. 」

「So what are you going to do now? 」
