The clouds that floated by seemed to be darkening and gathering somewhere over the city. This allowed a bit of moonlight to shine down upon this floating prison.

The two looked around this seemingly empty space and came across an inscription carved into the ground. The light from the moon reflected the ancient symbols, causing the two to spot it more easily. Kazuki inspected it closely and figured out what it was.

“This is a teleportation inscription. It seems one only needs to fill it with power and they can use it. The question though is how much power?”

Nunully was curious as to how a hero who was just recently summoned to her world could know this but found that now was not the time to ask.

“Ryuta, between the two of us there’s no way we can generate enough power to use this, we’ll have to find something else.”

Nunully continued to look around but when she looked back she found that Kazuki was still closely examining the inscription circle.

“Ryuta, we cannot idle here for long we need to find another method.”

Kazuki knelt down and felt the grooves of the carving. Closing his eyes for a moment, the pieces fell into place within his mind. Opening his eyes he stood up and smiled.

“No, this is our exit.”

“What do you mean? Unless you have a fist-sized mana crystal hidden somewhere on your body that I don’t know about, there’s no way to activate that teleportation inscription.”

“There is a way but I’ll need to borrow something from you.”

“Eh, you found a way?”

Kazuki casually walked over until he was only a few inches away from Nunully, this caused a slight flush of red to fill her cheeks.

“Wh…What do you want to borrow that you need to be so close to me?”

Kazuki grabbed Nunully’s shirt.

“I’ll be needing this.”

Nunully looked down in confusion.

“Eh!?”

Kazuki in one forceful pull, tore part of Nunullys shirt away revealing her smooth midriff.

“Kyahhh!”

Nunully screamed in a panic and quickly covered her stomach with both her hands.

“You…You…You fiend, demon, rapist, monster. W…What do you think you’re doing?”

Kazuki though ignored her and with that piece of cloth he then tore it into a few more pieces until he was left with 8 total. Laying them out flat in front of himself, Kazuki bit the tip of his finger and began to draw some simple inscriptions in blood.

Nunully noticed that Kazuki was completely ignoring her and was busy with something. Looking over his shoulder she saw him drawing inscriptions on the torn pieces of cloth with his blood. This made no sense to her though.

“What are you doing? Drawing inscriptions with blood won’t work. You need magic gold, a magic tool or a mana crystal to use magic, so why even bother?”

Kazuki continued to ignore her until each one was done.

Making a few ancient hand signs, magic filled all 8 strips of cloth. Kazuki though put four of them away, tucking them in a breast pocket. The other four he placed down on the outside of the teleportation inscription’s north, south, east and west sides. Drawing a line of blood from the cloth strips to the inscription circle he made a few more hand signs.

Nunully watched carefully, wondering what he was doing.

“Those are?”

“These are talismans. Usually, I would use paper but desperate times call for desperate measures, wouldn’t you agree?”

“Talismans? Do you mean those things that are supposed to ward off curses and specters? You do know those aren’t real right? A bit of blood on a rag won’t…”

Before Nunully could finish her words, the cloth talismans all lit up simultaneously. North, south, east and west, all 4 talismans began to glow. Nunully stepped back and covered her mouth in awe.

“That’s…That’s.”

Words would not form properly and she just stood there aghast.

Kazuki could feel power gathering from every direction. The power of all things was being sucked into the cloth talismans and the words written in blood began to wiggle about like tiny worms.

Little by little the outside of the teleportation inscription began to light up. At first, the outer ring glowed with a dim light that flickered constantly like a candle on the verge of being snuffed out. However as seconds turned into minutes, the soft flickering became more and more stable, and more and more solid. Not even a moment later and the first outer layer of the teleportation ring glowed with a bright golden light.

The talismans continued to gather power and transfer it over to the teleportation inscription and slowly but surely every inscribe symbol lit up.

(I get the feeling we need to leave as soon as possible.)

Thunder had been clapping repeatedly for a while now, causing Kazuki to have a bad feeling. Kazuki pulled Nunully into the circle with him.

“When we get to the other side, prepare to attack whatever lies ahead. If there is anyone guarding the other side we need to be ready, got it?”

Nunully gave a small nod and began to gather her own power. As the teleportation circle reached its apex, the talisman’s began to burn away, as the last of their powers reached the final step.

*FLASH*

The teleportation circle shone like a golden star, lighting up the sky for not even a second before returning to darkness once more.

*Flash*

Kazuki and Nunully’s eyes readjusted and they found themselves in a small room. Kazuki already had his hand in his chest pocket ready to throw some talismans and Nunully was ready to spread out a thick layer of fog but to their surprise, there was no one else around.

*Ka-Boom!*

A loud explosion rang out from somewhere close by and the room the two were in shook violently. A bit of the wall collapsed and dust spread throughout the room. Nunully and Kazuki shared the same look of confusion before they both raced out of the room.

The sight before them made absolutely no sense.

A whole corridor was completely gone and the two could see most of the city of Tresta from where they stood. Looking at the city, Kazuki knew his location but once more things didn’t make sense.

(This…This is the palace. How?)

Several bodies were strewn all about. Each one was covered in burn marks and blood.

Looking up into the night sky, the dark clouds Kazuki had spotted over Tresta, were now hovering dangerously above the palace. The two stared blankly for a moment before a booming voice echoed out.

“As I said, stay out of my way and I won’t kill you. I simply wish to have a discussion with the King.”

Kazuki immediately recognized that voice and became astounded.

(Garn!)

Several fireballs, ice spears, and earth spikes flew up at a tremendous speed. Once more Garn’s voice boomed from high above.

“YOU FOOLS!”

The sky lit up as though it were day and a streak of lightning descended down as though it were the hammer of a god.

*Boom boom boom boom boom!*

Explosion after explosion rang out as Garn’s attack destroyed everything thrown at him with ease. The leftover power from his strike continued down and struck the castle. A powerful barrier with many layers all lit up at once, causing the lightning strike to visibly slow but Garn was having none of it. His eyes glowed with golden light and a staff he got from god knows where pulled lightning from the heavens. Garn pointed the staff at his lightning bolt that was still being slowed and 5 streaks of lightning all struck down at once.

The lightning bolts formed into one and aimed for the spot that still slowed his lightning from before.

*Boom boom boom boom boom*

The combining force was overwhelming and one by one the layers that made up the barrier broke apart like shattering glass.

*Bang bang bang bang*

A large hole formed inside the barrier but several mages behind it were quickly repairing it. One such mage screamed up at Garn in desperation.

“Please, Master Garn, don’t do this. You are the hero of this great nation. Please stop.”

Garn shook his head and pointed his staff toward the hole in the barrier.

“I warned you all yet you still don’t stand aside. Fine, enough of this.”

Garn was disappointed in the mages he helped train and teach. They had all witnessed the fallacy in the throne room and know what their King truly is. They know and understand Garn’s anger yet they still defend the wrongs. Garn couldn’t take it anymore, no, he wouldn’t take it anymore.

As the barrier had nearly fused itself back together, Garn willed his power and roared within his mind.

(LIGHTNING!)

A bolt of lightning came crashing down like a meteor and found its way inside the barrier. The mages that stood before the strike could do nothing but accept their fate, for they had no time to resist even if they wanted to.

*Ka-Boom!*

The mages that defended that part of the castle were turned to ash and bone instantly and a large chunk of the palace exploded outward, sending large bits of debris raining down like death. Any who were caught up in it were killed on impact. The entire palace shook like an earthquake.

With a hole in the barrier, Garn descended down into the palace like a mad god. Those that stood in his way were reduced to ash by lightning or torn to shreds by a violent, flesh rendering wind. Kazuki didn’t care that Garn was attacking, as a matter of fact, it made him escaping that much simpler.

Grabbing Nunully’s hand, Kazuki ran through the palace trying to find an escape route.
