Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 115
The power of time, space, and light, formed into two separate beams and pierced both Kazuki along with space. Arc was going through Kauzki’s memories as well as showing the past outside of his memories. Kazuki’s granny master had just died. Kazuki had witnessed it first hand but what happened next he had never seen at the time. This is where his memories and the other events were diverging.
A moment after granny master died, Arc showed her soul separating from her flesh. Looking around, granny master realized what had happened.
(So I died.)
She looked at Kazuki who was kneeling next to her sobbing.
“Master, master. You protected me again. How could I be so weak?”
(Kazuki it’s alright. I was already far too old in this life. Death would have come anyway.)
Granny master tried to comfort Kazuki but her voice could not reach Kazuki since she was dead. She felt a bit foolish for even trying but there wasn’t much she could do.
She tried to touch Kazuki just in case but her hand simply went right through him.
Kazuki stared up at the sky and cursed Sephra. Screaming her name, he vowed to return to Gordonia and kill her no matter what.
In this moment, granny master seemed sad.
(Kazuki, your heart finally settled, and now you’re aiming for revenge again. I only wished for you to live peacefully and happily. Now because of my death, you will walk a bloodied path. I’ve failed you. I’m not worthy to be a master of anything.)
There was disappointment in her expression. Kazuki who was watching all of this from the present was confused.
(She didn’t want me to take revenge. Even after she was killed for no other reason than to protect me?)
The past continued to play. It showed Kazuki traveling across the world in search of a way back home, it showed all the terrible and cruel things he did to achieve his goals. All the people who got in his way, he simply removed these obstacles. All this time he thought he was doing it for both himself and his master but as he continued it showed his granny master’s soul following along every step of the way. During this time, she could only express her further disappointment. This was not what she wanted for her disciple, for her family.
She only wanted the best for Kazuki and she only became sadder and sadder as the days went. All the way to the day Kazuki was teleported back to Gordonia. Once Kazuki was gone, granny master’s soul returned to her quiet mountain. Days passed, then months and years and there is where she remained.
The light from Arc began to dull and just as the past was about to catch up to the present, the light faded completely and the power was cut from there.
Kazuki was shocked by what he saw as well as saddened.
(Granny master was by my side that whole time. While I was trying my best to get back to Gordonia to take my revenge, all she wanted was for me to be happy…)
Kazuki did not know what to say or think.
There was one thing though that gave him a bit of hope. It was like he was blind this entire time and only after Arc had mentioned helping him and showing him the past, did he finally realize it.
(Arc, the help you were referring to, is it similar to the help Nevius wanted? He wanted me to use you to show where his family member’s souls were and then trace where the souls had gone so he could go and collect them.)
Arc moved up and down slightly as if it were nodding.
(Ye…s)
Kazuki grew excited.
(Doesn’t this mean I could do the exact same thing. With your power, couldn’t I trace exactly where granny master’s soul ended up and go get it and place it into a new body? I could bring her back to life!)
(Ye…s)
Kazuki was becoming more and more hopeful but then he remembered the fact that all of the Lower Realms moved at random times to random locations. Because of this, even if they knew where her soul went it would mean nothing if they could not then go to that Realm was it too far away etc.
(Arc, is it possible to track the previous movements of the Realms? Is that something your capable of?)
Arc moved up and down.
(I…can…but…no..t…now.)
(What, what do you mean?)
(Ener..gy..low…I used most of it…over the yea..rs. To…track…Rrrealms…need…more Ooorigin energy.)
Kazuki was confused. He thought the Origin energy itself was like a consciousness but the way Arc conveyed it, it was more like the Origin energy was part of the artifact itself or maybe it was both energy and consciousness. Kazuki wasn’t 100% sure.
(Did you not use the regular elements earlier when you activated. Why can’t you just use regular magical energy?)
Arc shook side to side.
(That…differ..nt. Showing the pas..t and tracking the Reealllms is tooo dif..fernt. Need little..po..wer to sho.w past…Need enormous power, you don’t poss.es to track wh..ole…Rreallms. Mu..st have Ooorigin energy.)
(Can’t you just use the Origin energy from the other artifacts on Nevius’s world.)
Arc shook.
(Not compatible. Must gather Ori..gin.. energy..no.t attached to artifact.)
Kazuki felt devastated. He knew he shouldn’t have gotten so hopeful so soon but after hearing it was possible to bring his Granny Master back to life, he couldn’t help it. From what Nevius told him though, Origin energy is beyond rare. It was not something one could just find.
(With Origin energy being so rare, there’s nothing that can be done. I wouldn’t know where to even begin to start looking for such a power source.)
Arc shook side to side.
(Plen..ty…all ..over. Just need to…ask..nicely.)
Kazuki stared at Arc and Arc mentioned something he had only heard of one other time.
(He…art…of star.)
Kazuki’s eyes widened as he took in this news.
(You…Are you saying the heart of a star, it’s actually Origin energy!?)
(Yes.)
Kazuki couldn’t believe this but things started to make sense.
(Then the reason I could never get the heart of a star, the reason that pure dense energy I felt kept disappearing every time I got close, it was because it was Origin energy all this time?)
(Ye.s. I watched many ti..mes. You. kep..t trying and trying but Ooorigin energy does not want to be taken by you. When you absorb too much energy from star, the Ooorigin energy gets annoyed or mad and moved to different…Rrreallm. If not powerfu..l enough Ooorigin energy will not listen to you and wi..ll only listen to artifacts. I can bring it into to me and absorb it.)
(It won’t listen to me but it will listen to an artifact. So it does have a will of its own. If that’s the case isn’t there a chance that you can be taken over by this outside Origin energy.)
(No.t possible. I’m much str..onger. Without artifact, Ooorigin energy alone is weak-willed. Fuse.d with artifact, will is greater.)
Arc started to pulse once more and a beam of light shot into Kazuki’s head. It showed him countless stars all over the Realm. In the center of these stars, there was pure dense energy, Origin energy. Some of the centers of the stars were much brighter while others were dimmer. Arc conveyed that the dimmer ones were the ones with weaker Origin energy inside of them and therefore would be easier to absorb.
(Arc, this, what is it you want in exchange for this? You can’t be doing it out of the kindness of your heart if you even have one.)
(I need to b.e who.l..e. Missin.g importan.t piece. Need…you to fin.d me. Must be re..stored.)
(And the others who came before me couldn’t do this for you?)
(I nev.er sought there hel.p. In my weakend state, they jus.t used me. All they wanted was po.wer. They were gre..edy. You are diff.erent. I help you…You hel.p me.)
Kazuki was already saved by Arc before so he felt there was some trust between them. If all the Gosechu box wanted was to be made whole again and in exchange, Kazuki had the chance to bring back his granny master, this was worth it to him.
Kazuki didn’t hesitate and flew to the nearest star with lesser Origin energy than the others. Arc quickly taught Kazuki the best way to use his Cosmic crystals. Before Kazuki would use them in a manner that would try and absorb the star’s energy equally all at once but Arc showed him a better way. It turns out the magical energy coming from the star was always in a state of continuous fluctuation. Meaning at seemingly random times the energy would spike in certain directions.
By making it so that the Cosmic crystals would absorb these spikes the moment they appeared, it allowed Kazuki to not only use fewer Cosmic crystals but also absorb the energy at a faster rate. The moment the energy from the star was low enough, Arc began to pulse once again and a beam of light shot directly into the center of the star.
Before Kazuki’s eyes, a stream of Origin energy flowed out from the center of the star and circled around Arc several times and Arc as well began to entwine with this outside Origin energy. A moment later the outside energy sank directly into Arc and Arc absorbed all of it as if it were a sponge.
Arc began to change shape and transformed into a golden ring before securing itself onto Kazuki’s right thumb.
(Is it already done, just like that?)
The ring glowed slightly before Arc spoke with excitement.
(Yes. I’ve already recovered some of my powers. Talking with you will be a bit easier now. Shall we go to the next star?)
Kazuki absorbed the last of the star’s energy into his many Cosmic crystals before packing them in.
(Yes, I finished here as well. Let’s move on.)
