Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 121

“I don’t understand Kazuki. Why was Nevius crying even though he got what he wanted?”

Stepping out of the rift, Kazuki and arc appeared on planet Kai.

“What do you mean. He finally has his family back, of course, he’s happy.”

“Hmm, you beings are so odd. Water leaks from your eyes when you’re sad and also when you’re happy, isn’t that confusing?”

“Confusing, are you saying you don’t feel emotions?”

Arc spun.

“I feel plenty. I used to hate Ancient beasts and all who tried to use me. I felt contempt for those with greedy ambitions for me. Sad when I didn’t know who or what I am. I’m not confused about emotions just why one would cry on both occasions. Don’t you animals have other ways of expressing yourself besides crying or smashing things with your fists?”

“Mmm, not really. Cring and smashing shit basically covers it. Of course, there are a few more but we are pretty simple in those regards. Rather, most have a hard time expressing themselves outside of those few ways.”

“And why is that?”

Kazuki could only shrug here.

“If I knew how emotional beings worked, don’t you think I would have had my anger in check long ago. Even when I use my ki, it only calms me for a short while. It’s in these feelings though that drive the world. At least I’ve never met a person who could move it without passion.”

Arc was confused and needed to mull over that.

(Big brother Kazuki!)

A tiny squeaky voice entered Kazuki’s mind as a red and black furball suddenly appeared and landed on Kazuki’s shoulder happily.

Kosaru was excited to see Kazuki but the very next second Kosaru went quiet and stared at Arc who was in ring form and wrapped around Kazuki’s finger.

(Big brother, what is that tasty snack?)

Kazuki held up his hand and Kosaru suddenly reached forward to grab Arc when a bit of purple electricity sparked outward and zapped Kosaru’s little hand claw.

Kosaru jumped back in pain.

(Ah, big brother the snack hurt me!)

Kosaru was rubbing its little hand claw and was upset but Kazuki chuckled as he explained.

“This isn’t a snack but Arc. Arc is not meant for eating and instead is someone that’s helpful. Arc, you should say sorry and Kosaru you shouldn’t assume everything is food.”

“Why would I offer an apology to this tiny little imp. No one touches me without my permission.”

Kosaru as well was not happy.

(Big brother that little snack can talk and it called me a name. Why is it so mean and not yummy?)

Kazuki could see a headache coming on.

“Ok, let’s stop here. Arc, I understand you want no one touching you, that is your right but Kosaru is a small child and doesn’t understand many things. He’s learning still so cut him some slack in that regard. You as well Kosaru. This should teach you a little lesson. Don’t go around trying to eat strange things. Alutra will feed you or me or one of your friends understand. Now can you both say sorry?”

Arc didn’t respond and Kosaru began to pout.

“Hmm, no answer. Maybe I should stop helping you with the Origin energy and Kosaru I guess you don’t want me to make you any more pizza.”

Arc and Kosaru both nearly stumbled over one another with their words.

(Big brother no fair!)

“Kazuki we had an agreement! Does your word mean nothing!?”

Kazuki went quiet and didn’t respond. Kosaru felt the danger of never getting pizza again and quickly apologized first.

(Big brother, I’m sorry. I won’t try and eat strange things again. Mister ring I was wrong, please, I’m sorry.)

Kosaru then looked at Kazuki with puppy-like eyes and Kazuki nodded.

“Good. Sometimes you have to apologize in life but you’re a big boy right, so you can do it without complaints. A man knows when he’s wrong and when he should admit it. Good job Kosaru. I’ll make you plenty of pizza later.”

Kosaru got excited once more and raced around Kazuki hundreds of times in an instant.

(Big brothers the best big brothers the greatest pizza man in the whole wide world!)

Next Kazuki looked at Arc.

“Arc, what about you?”

“Kazuki, would you really give up the chance to bring back those you care about. Would you really be willing to risk it over something this small?”

Kazuki shrugged. and this shrug seemed to piss Arc off.

“DAMNIT ANSWER ME!”

Kazuki calmly replied.

“I care deeply for those I’ve lost but when it comes to hurting those that are still around, sacrificing that, that’s a no go. What’s the point of bringing them back if I can’t protect them from something you would call small.”

“I don’t understand you Kazuki. What is the point of this, are you purposefully trying to ruin things? Have I not already saved you, that alone should be worth your help but to think you would treat me so miserably.”

Kazuki shook his head.

“I still know basically nothing about you. Yes, you saved me but does that mean trust is 100% there. What type of person would I be if I overlooked some things I deem to be characteristic flaws. Yes indeed it may have been small but what type of being are you if you can’t say sorry when you were clearly in the wrong just now. Even Kosaru who is a child apologized but you are having such a hard time with the so-called small.”

“Kosaru, I am sorry for hurting you. It won’t happen again.”

Kosaru smiled happily.

“It’s ok I forgive you.”

Arc was a little taken aback at how simply Kosaru accepted his apology just like that.

“Ah, yes, ok then.”

Arc didn’t know what to say.

“So little Kosaru, you rushed over here for something right.”

Kosaru nodded up and down while bouncing around.

(Big brother, mama said to come eat. Everyones already gathered and were just waiting on you. It’s not pizza day but you said you would make me some so don’t go back on your word. We big boys don’t lie either right?)

“Right. You go on ahead, and I’ll catch up with you.”

Kosaru nodded before taking off like a bolt of lightning.

(Hurry up or I’ll eat all the pizza without you big brother.)

Kazuki shook his head while chuckling.

“He thinks he’s going to eat all the pizza when I’m the one making it, heh, that boy.”

Arc was still silent and Kazuki knew he was doubting things but Kazuki reassured him.

“I never actually intended to go back on my word. I will still help you.”

“If you never intended to go back on your word, why play such a game. I do not like being treated like a fool.”

“Your right I shouldn’t have played games with you but I wanted to know something for sure.”

“And what would that be.”

“You mentioned you feel emotions but I wanted to know if that was really true or not. When you weren’t getting what you wanted, you snapped at me. So you obviously do.”

“You’re not saying anything. What was the point of seeing if I really have emotions or not?”

“If you didn’t have any emotions and you were only a cold unfeeling existence, I could see a point in time where you got what you wanted and left me by the waste side. Someone like that, I would still keep my word and help but I would have to constantly be looking over my shoulder. That is someone who would only think of themself and would abandon me with no hesitation. As you know Arc, I have issues when it comes to betrayal and that is something I do not take lightly. Now that I know you aren’t just some cold calculated thing, I feel a little more reassured.”

Arc wanted to be mad but he understood Kazuki’s past all too well. If it was just this, Arc could still live with it.

“Kazuki, if such a test ever reoccurs, it isn’t a coldness of mine you should be worried about.”

Kazuki raised a brow.

“Is that a threat?”

“And if it is?”

Kazuki smiled at this.

“Good, you see this is honesty. Now I know there is a line in the sand and If I cross it, I get screwed. You as well now know I have my own line. My family and friends. You cross it, you know now what happens.”

“I’m screwed right?”

“Exactly Arc.”

Arc didn’t dislike this. Things were out in the open. Kazuki had a thing for those he cared about and Arc did not like being manipulated and messed with. These things were easily understood and because they were open about it, a weird bit of trust actually did start to form.

“Now that all the crap is settled, shall we introduce everyone to you.”

Arc spun dully.

“Introduce me or don’t I don’t really care. Just let them know that none of them are allowed to touch me got it?”

Kazuki didn’t really understand how it was fine that he could touch Arc but no one else was allowed to. Still, there was no argument there.

“By the way, I know you don’t have a memory of your name from before but should I introduce you as a boy…a girl…what exactly are you.”

If Arc had eyes, right now, it would be rolling them.
