Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 137
After telling his granny master everything, she was both saddened as well as happy.
(I knew that woman was your enemy but to think she still hadn’t given up and even set her daughter upon you. For you to make it out through all of that, now that’s my disciple. What I don’t get though, is why have you come back here?)
Kazuki gave her a stunned look.
“Master, I came back for you.”
“Kazuki did you not tell your master what you can do. Once she’s aware it will all become clear.”
Lin chimed in. He could only pick up half of the conversation from Kazuki’s end since he could not hear the master’s soul unless he was in direct contact with her but from what he gathered, Kazuki hadn’t relayed their full purpose.
(Kazuki what is your father talking about? Also0 tell him to stop calling me master, it feels uncomfortable to be referred to in that way by someone so powerful.)
(But Master my power is not below his but I still call you master.)
(Boy do you want to get hit again. Of course, you call me master. Even in death, I will always be your master and if you call me anything else besides that I’ll slap some sense in you over and over again you got that!)
(Yes yes granny master.)
“Lin, my master asks that you stop calling her master. It makes her uncomfortable.”
*Whack*
A sudden gust of wind hit Kazuki in the back of the head.
(Dammit boy I didn’t tell you to relay all of that noise just tell him to call me by name my name will do nothing more, nothing else attached.)
Kazuki laughed inwardly. His master was acting all embarrassed. It had been such a long time since she acted like this. Even in death, she was certainly lively.
“Master says to just call her by her name, Maya.”
“Maya. Once again allow me to express my gratitude for what you’ve done for Kazuki.”
Lin was about to bow again but Maya began shouting at Kazuki and Kazuki stopped it.
“Father please don’t do that. Granny master really does not like such things. It gets on her old nerves.”
*Whack*
(Don’t call me old brat.)
Kazuki nodded along.
Lin sat back up and he thought about something.
“So this is where you got that from. Whenever someone tries to show you respect like a bow or anything else, you tend to grow annoyed and turn it away. It seems you picked up this habit from Maya. Her teachings have helped to keep you humble in many ways. Another teaching I couldn’t leave you.”
Lin was bitter-sweet. He had raised Kazuki up but just as Kazuki was becoming a young man, tragedy struck and the two were separated. Now after reuniting, Kazuki had already become a full-grown man and Lin hadn’t been there to see it or finish raising him. In a way it was sad but seeing the man Kazuki became, Lin couldn’t be more proud.
Kazuki as well was a little surprised by Lin’s words. Thinking on it now, he really did pick up this habit from granny master. He really disliked it when others bowed at least on their own accord. If he forcibly made an opponent kneel or bow that was a different story in itself. Making someone kneel versus them kneeling on their own, the latter he basically despised but forcibly driving a foe to submit, that was thrilling to some extent.
(Kazuki back to what you’ve come for. Paying your respects is one thing but it seems that isn’t the full purpose of your visit. Tell me, why have you returned to Earth?)
Kazuki told his master about his friends wishing to come back home and he also mentioned that he had the ability to revive her if she so wished. He told her about specifically trying to find Earth just so he could help her.
“Granny master, you took me in when I had no one and knew nothing of this world. You taught me so much and cared for me when there was no one else. In the end, you even sacrificed your life just so that I could live another day. I know afterward you continued to watch over me even in death and I know I disappointed you in my actions as I traveled the world eliminating anyone that got in my way, just so that I could return to have my revenge. I was selfish in so many ways but you never stopped looking out for me. Now I have returned in hopes to repay even a small amount of what you’ve done for me. I would like to revive you.”
(Hmm, revival, is something like that really possible…Hmm, I don’t know, what would be the point of that?)
Kazuki was surprised by his master’s words.
(Granny master…What do you mean what’s the point. If you’re alive you can do so many things. Death is, its
Maya quickly interrupted Kazuki.
(I can do so many things you say. I have traveled the world, tried the food, seen all of the sights, and heard the holy men and the lamen. I lived for nearly 120 years. Probably would have made it to 130 if not for that crazy mother of yours sending a monster here but besides that, I have already lived a long and fulfilling life. In the end, my biggest and lifelong wish was to train up a disciple that could stand anywhere without being moved by anyone and it seems I have achieved that hehe. That thought changed when I met you Kazuki.)
“When you met me?”
(Yes. You are my disciple but you became more than that. I found myself no longer wishing to help make a powerful person but instead a happy person. When I was alive, I did want you to be the strongest but after my death, I saw what you were starting to become. You were fueled by hatred and rage and became obsessed with revenge. I did not want this for you. At some point, I couldn’t help but wonder if it would have been better for both of us to die that day and end this cycle of hatred for good. You were becoming a beast in human skin. I longed for the days when you would tease this old one and ask for more noodles. I just wanted to return to those times. It was then that I realized I just wanted you to be happy and live a long and fulfilling life as I had had. Anything else in life is just a wasted life. Revenge, anger, and hatred, serve no purpose but to take take take from us.)
Kazuki was taken aback. His master sounded much softer and gentler. Moments ago she was threatening to hit him but now she talked about the times she cherished. Not only that but she sounded not the least bit interested in returning to the land of the living.
(Master.)
(Kazuki, I lived my life. What about you. You don’t seem angry. You don’t act like everything is upon your shoulders. You are more relaxed and look happy. Are you? It took my entire life and then death to know what I really wanted, I wanted you to be happy. That’s why I followed you around, that’s why I still have not passed on from here. I did not think you would actually return but you did. So tell me honestly…Are you happy?)
Kazuki didn’t even need to think and answered.
(Yes. I have friends and loved ones and every day is filled with good times. I never could have imagined my life would turn out this way. Nunully and Asuna, Danny and Lin and eveyrone else. I’m not lacking in any way.)
(Good. Since you are happy my disciple, then I as well am happy. I don’t need another life. So don’t worry about me. Besides, I’m looking forward to what comes after. Is there an afterlife, Is there reincarnation, or just an empty blackness. All of them intrigue me and I feel as if I’m ready to see it.)
Kazuki knew there was no arguing with his master. In all the years he’s known her, he never once won against her. Once her mind was made up, that was it. At the same time, this left an emptiness inside. He had finally returned and he had the power to bring her back but she did not wish for another life. She just wanted him to be happy.
(By the way, you mentioned this Asuna and Nunully a few times now but why are they not here. I thought you would want to introduce them to me no?)
Kazuki rubbed his head.
(Well Asuna has missed her family after all of this time being away and I wanted to do this with just you and me but father insisted on offering you prayers and thanking you and no one can control Alutra as she does what she wishes. That’s also why she brought Detra. Nunully and her mother are with Asuna and she is going to introduce the two of them since…we will be a family soon.)
Kazuki wasn’t one to get shy but saying this last bit to his master, he felt his heart skip a beat.
*Whack*
Another gust of wind slapped Kazuki in the back of the head before Maya began to grin.
(Kazuki were you going to send me off without telling me about marriage. Well, now I have to stick around for a bit longer. Damn and here I was thinking I would see the other side soon. Now I can’t go anywhere so as to make sure you don’t screw this all up. So, when is the wedding?)
