Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 147
Grandmaster Chul could not see through Kazuki no matter how much he observed him. It was like looking at an infinite mountain. You could not grasp its scale even if you tried.
He had just witnessed Kazuki materialize gold and diamonds and regenerate a bald man’s hair as well as extend his life and grant him a few more years of youth. All of these things were outside of his own capability yet Kazuki had done it with such ease, that it was as if he didn’t even try.
With his senses, he could just barely feel the flow of magic around him. He was just introduced to such power today by his granddaughter Kimi but he was already noticing it more and more around Kimi and everyone else. Well all of them except Kazuki.
It was really too strange even for him.
(I can sense everyone but this Kazuki, he is elusive. Even though he is a mere 7 feet away I can barely even tell he’s here at all. I can not feel his breath nor smell his flesh. His blood is so dense, no that isn’t quite right, it’s as if his blood doesn’t even need to flow in order for him to live. I can’t detect anything inside of him, I can’t see inward at all. It’s almost as if he’s both a ghost and a God. Like he could flow through a crowd of a million people without notice but at the same time if he wished, he could destroy everything.)
While everyone was chatting happily Grandmaster Chul decided to test him. He didn’t know why but something inside told him to see, to check just a small part. Was it curiosity or something else, he didn’t quite know.
Grandmaster Chul calmly reached for the fork in front of him. He released no killing intent, nor any ki. His mind was calm and his presence was as normal as normal could be.
(I’ll grab this fork and before anyone notices, I’ll simply throw it. I know it won’t harm him in any way but I wish to see, I need another glimpse, just a small peek into what he can do.)
Grandmaster Chul reached down but to his surprise, the fork was gone. He didn’t look down and just gently pat the table in a casual manner but he felt nothing but the table. The fork was literally gone. He suddenly got a strange feeling and reflexively looked toward Kazuki.
As the two caught one another’s eye, Kazuki glanced down and Grandmaster Chul couldn’t help but follow his gaze where he saw his fork. He was shocked. His fork was for some reason, now laying directly in front of Kazuki.
He had not seen Kazuki move, nor did he notice the moment the fork went missing or when it had appeared in front of Kazuki.
(This speed, how could he be so fast that I didn’t notice a single thing. Not just me but no one else seems to have noticed it as well. I don’t understand, my eyes can track objects that are faster than even bullets. When…Just when did he move?)
The moment Grandmaster Chul had this thought, Kazuki’s voice entered his mind.
(Are you curious?)
Master Chul looked back at Kazuki in shock.
(My mind, I can hear your voice in my mind.)
(Don’t be so stunned. This is a simple ability. Instead, you should look down in front of you.)
Chul looked down and to his shock, his fork was back in place. His eyes naturally darted back to the spot in front of Kazuki and once again the fork was there. His eyes then darted back to in front of him and the fork had moved again.
Chul felt as if he was losing his mind. This was the exact same fork but it was somehow two places at once. Chul’s hand moved at a speed most could not touch as he grabbed the fork and held it up. It was in his hand. He could feel it and see it, it was definitely there but looking across the table, the fork was still sitting in front of Kazuki.
(I…I don’t understand. Is this some type of illusion? Yes it has to be.)
(Wrong. This is no illusion, nor are there two forks. Use your ki and trace the fork. Maybe then you will understand.)
Chul was unsure before he placed a hint of his ki on the fork. The moment he did this, his ki became a straight line that extended from his hand to directly in front of Kazuki. As soon as he sensed this line of ki he became shocked.
(The instant I placed some ki into the fork a line formed. My ki went from me to you and back to me. This…This isn’t an illusion, the fork is still moving, it’s been moving this whole time. It’s not that it’s disappearing and reappearing, it’s the fact that the fork is moving at such high speed that it appears to be in two places at once. For the movement to be so smooth and unnoticeable that even I can not tell it is taking place…Incredible!)
Kazuki gradually began to slow the movement of the fork and it began to leave afterimages that Chul’s eyes could actually follow. Chul became shocked seeing this. Even if he now knew what was going on, it was another thing to actually witness it.
The fork slowed more until it stopped in Chul’s hand. The fork still felt as if it had never left his grip this entire time.
(A speed that no one can match, this alone can make one invincible. It seems I was concerned for my grandaughter’s friends for no reason. I feel a bit foolish.)
Kazuki didn’t respond to that and left it there. The others though wondered what just happened. When the fork began to slow, they all started to notice it but Kazuki just kept smiling and continued conversing. Everyone introduced themselves properly to one another and everyone began to loosen up. At first, it was a little odd, after all, finding out that magic is real and other worlds that are fantasy-like with strange creatures and so on. This already was a lot to take in but tack on the fact that they thought their loved ones were dead and had suddenly come back with powers and so on. The conversations started out slightly off.
This awkwardness though didn’t last. Maybe because everyone was friendly or maybe because people were just happy to be reunited with their loved ones, they didn’t know, nor did they care.
Pretty quickly food and drink began flooding into their private room.
The moment the three Ancient beasts along with Mei and Kosaru tried the food, it was like a tidal wave erupted as they began stuffing their faces like crazy.
“What is this taste, this is truly incredible!”
Tozu was the first to praise the food. This was their first time having Earth food that Kazuki didn’t make. Kazuki was a great cook but this was a 5-star hotel with a Michelin restaurant inside. There were recipes and cooking techniques that Kazuki had never heard of before. The food was quite outstanding.
“Mama Mama, this is amazing. Try this and this and this.”
Mei filled up her mother’s plate and Tsura was a little annoyed. When it came to cooking, she was the one with the most skill. Seeing her daughter act like this, she was a little hurt. That is until she took a bite. The moment she tried a piece of braised pork in brown sauce, her eyes widened. She couldn’t believe food could be this good. She immediately got several different inspirations flowing into her head one after the other and she wanted to try them all out and cook more things.
At the same time, she couldn’t stop, her fork continued to move and she actually felt a bit embarrassed because she knew she was eating without manners but she couldn’t help it. She kept eating in an almost unsightly way but she soon no longer cared and kept at it.
Asuna’s family as well started off shy when it came to eating the food. They already received gifts from Kazuki and now they were getting a free meal as well. That all flew out the window when the food entered their mouths. Just like the Ancient beasts, they went a little crazy.
The only ones who still maintained their composure were Kazuki, Sam, Danny, and Kimi’s family. Kimi’s family was rich, no, beyond rich. They were used to this type of food as they ate it regularly or so they thought. The moment they tried the food, it was almost like they took a drug as the food melted in their mouths and teased every tastebud. Not just them Danny and Sam and his dad all became a little crazy while they ate. They had never had such delicious food.
Kazuki nodded as he casually began to eat this and that. While it was true that he did not cook this food, he did in fact add a bit of alchemy and magic to it. Now that he had this soul reading ability, he knew exactly how people’s tastes were and knew how to perfectly match their tastebuds with his magic so that no matter what people ate, it would taste like the best food they ever had.
He wanted to test it to see if it would really work and he also wanted to have a nice celebratory feast but he did not think it would make them go crazy over the food. Even his granny master was eating like it was her last meal on Earth.
Kazuki noted that this might be dangerous and decided maybe not to just use it so easily.
(Heh, if this was a different life, I might have opened a restaurant.)
Kazuki explained what he did but no one cared. They were glad. They had never eaten food like this and envied this new ability.
Kazuki began to wonder if he might have made a mistake.
