Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 54
“Did you just say you’ll make gates? Don’t tell me you mean teleportation gates!?”
Kazuki gave a nod and King Brian was at a loss.
(A teleportation gate requires an enormous amount of power to function along with a complex series of inscriptions that would normally take almost a hundred skilled Mages working together to create. Kazuki is going to do it himself!)
Kazuki showed king Brian too many miraculous things one after another that he was starting to become numb by it all.
(I can no longer be surprised by this man…no, by this God among men.)
King Brian was thankful Kazuki was not an enemy for he would have no choice but to be crushed beneath Kazuki’s feet if he were.
Kazuki once more waved a hand and just outside the city a large arc was created. The arc was well over a hundred feet tall and nearly 30 feet in width. This would be used to transport a massive number of people and materials all at once. It would be a great benefit for the people on the Feya continent. One that would allow travel and expansion, delivery of necessary goods in an extremely fast time and just overall useful for those around.
Hundreds of thousands of inscriptions were carved out with his aura and a crystal was embedded in the top of the arc gate and he filled it with magic. Unlike the ones he made in both planet Kai and Glacious’s planet, he added a few tweaks to this new one so that it would automatically gather energy from its surroundings so the power source would never need to be replaced so long as there was magical energy in the world.
Just like the first gates he made though, he created a powerful barrier around the gate as well as the power source so none below the 7th stage could take it nor destroy it. Not only that, even if someone’s intention was simply to study it, it would be protected in such a way that one could not visibly see nor sense in any way the inscriptions or their formations.
Unless you were at the 7th stage, you would not be able to perceive the inscriptions in any way shape, or form. Kazuki didn’t have to do this but he understood what gaining power and knowledge too quickly can do to someone. Some may choose to use their newfound power for good while others become corrupt. Kazuki knew this firsthand. Even he could feel that he had changed in some ways.
When he gained all of this strength, he felt the desire to test his abilities. He wanted to know just how strong, just how powerful he had become. It was an intoxicating feeling but he also had ki energy which could help curve such emotions. Not completely eliminate the root but it could help him maintain who he was to some extent.
By giving these thousands of people powers beyond their imagination, powers that they did not earn themselves, it opened a dangerous path. Kazuki knew where this sudden gain of power could lead them but since he was at the 7th stage, there was little chance they could ever prove to be a threat. At the same time, this was not 100% guaranteed. So he blocked them from gaining insight into his arc gate. The study and understanding of it could lead them to advance in several ways.
Kazuki would not prevent people from striving further but he would keep a watchful eye on them all. Not just them but those he was close to as well. In this Lower Realm, things were under his control and things would remain under his control. This was the only way he could be sure nothing slipt passed, nothing could sneak up on him and stab him in the back.
With a watchful eye, he would determine who would be useful and who would become dangerous to what he holds dear. Those that were dangerous, no matter who they were, Kazuki would do what must be done and eliminate them. He was not playing around and would do what was necessary to ensure he never lost power.
Was it greed or fear or something else entirely, even Kazuki didn’t know for sure? All he knew was that he did not want to lose what was precious to him. Did he have such a right to become judge and executioner, he didn’t care. Power gave him the right, strength gave him the authority to rule and carry out his own will and impose it upon any in this Realm.
At the same time, he could see all of the power also leading him down a path like most Titans or Gods walked. A path that made one believe they were above all and allowed to fuck around and do whatever they wished. Even if Kazuki knew he could do such things, he would not do them. he did not wish to be like them. He did not wish to be like Sephra, who decided to end him and his brother.
Inside Kazuki, there was a constant battle taking place. One between his humanity and his godhood. He couldn’t let one overtake the other and so he decided to not be too soft nor too cruel. He needed to find a balance in himself.
Kazuki created several more arc gates around the Feya continent exactly the same as the one just outside the city before making several devices to control each one.
Many people looked at these magic tools with envy and greed. To control one of these gates, the amount of wealth one could collect from the taxes alone would make you filthy rich. Kazuki thought these people would have already been satisfied with gaining new power but it seemed human nature won out time and time again. Kazuki activated king Brian’s storage ring on his finger and stored every single one of these devices in one go.
“Kazuki you’re giving these to me?”
Kazuki gave a nod before turning to the crowd.
“I have other things to do and can not be bothered with such a task, I also know you will be busy as well just running things here. That’s why I want you to give these to people you trust, people under your rule. As everyone is well aware, I have a power that makes my word law. When it comes to Feya and those who live on this continent, I will allow king Brian to rule under me. To go against him, would be to go against me. You also don’t have to worry about him becoming corrupt as he will be under my eye always.”
A small voice squeaked up among the crowd.
“But what if your corrupt?”
All eyes went wide as they heard this and turned to see a small skittish woman was the one who had spoken. They all thought she would be killed here and now but Kazuki released no killing intent.
“If I truly am corrupt, then that will be the end of all things and you won’t have to worry either way because everything would be long gone. People, animals, the world, and this Realm itself, all of it would no longer exist.”
Kazuki spoke coldly and placed the fear of God within them all. Things that were spoken here today were simply too much and overwhelmed many. Among them, most were not religious. The age of religion had mostly passed and there were very few who believed in such things but seeing to many is believing. Kazuki was the closest thing to a God they had ever witnessed and he went on to tell them there were beings even more powerful than even he. This led many to an existential crisis. What was their purpose in the grand scheme of things? It was this question that echoed in their minds that Kazuki answered right after.
“That feeling you are experiencing right now, that hollowness and black empty void deep down inside. I know it all too well. I have come face to face with power beyond me too many times to count. Too many times I had to simply watch as everything was left to the whim of a being that could give two shits about me, about my world. That feeling though, there is a way to escape it, to confront it head-on. If you hate that feeling of helplessness, do something about it. That’s why I have created this place so you all could all pool your knowledge and experience and build something. Create a device, make a tool or something that can hold begins with my level of power accountable.”
Once more everyone there was shocked. Even Detra was stunned. Listening to Kazuki’s words, one particular way they could take it was for them to build something that could take him on, that could take him down. For him to say this to all of these people, they didn’t know if he was that confident or if he thought they were too stupid to actually pull it off.
A fire was lit inside of them and that cold black feeling was being pushed out. They felt this challenge with all of their hearts and they wanted to prove him wrong. They wanted to show Kazuki that humanity was not one to be pushed around and played with as if they were toys.
(By the looks of it, it seems my words have gotten through to them. Now let’s see if they can actually do it.)
