Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 60

As new ideas flowed through his mind one after another, that same elusive feeling was just out of reach. The more he thought, the more new concepts and theories were etched into him. Something shook within the depths of his soul and his soul tree actually began to grow and with it, his soul was strengthened.

Kazuki felt a comfort and warmth for a split second before he snapped out of it.

Kazuki realized he was floating aimlessly in space.

(Damn, Divine enlightenment I gained a small glimpse of something before it vanished. During that process, I lost track of…myself and time flowed without thought.)

Kazuki felt a slight frustration. He had gotten close to Divine enlightenment a few times now but every time it seemed as if he were on the verge of something beyond himself, he would be pulled away and it would remain out of reach.

(It’s odd, it’s like trying to use your hand to scoop a bit of water out of a fast-flowing river. You reach in and it feels like you will be taken and drowned under its power si you instinctively pull your hand out. This as well isn’t a solution as the water flows through your fingers no matter how tightly you close them together. The river is enlightenment and your hand is your soul. If I’m too open and lose my will, would my soul disappear, would it be completely overwhelmed and destroyed by whatever it is I am trying to discover?)

Kazuki did not know for sure what would happen if he fell into that river nor did he have the time to figure it out for now. After going through all of the Mage’s memories and experiences in regards to crystals, Kazuki came up with his own designs. Using all of the previous research, Kazuki built on top of that foundation with his own power and knowledge.

He reached outward and closed his eyes.

(let’s try this.)

A small crystal no bigger than a hair formed in front of him.

(Shrinking a world does not change its structure but why can’t it be done? Why not change the structure.)

Kazuki thought about planet Kai, his own creation as well as Glacious’s tiny world. One of the main focuses of the old Mages research was changing the structure of a crystal, rearranging its makeup on a microscopic level.

Even with Kazuki’s sharp senses, this was basically impossible. He could not sense such small things at such a small level. So he came up with an idea.

Kazuki’s power flowed forth and the tiny hair-sized crystal increased rapidly in size until it was the size of a small moon.

(With it this large, I can easily sense its structure and makeup.)

Kazuki’s idea was a simple one. using his knowledge from Detra instead of shrinking a world he would work backward and instead increase the size of something. Just as his planet did not change its structure when it shrank and was stored in a tiny grain, the crystal did not change its insides as it grew. Everything inside was exactly the same, the only difference was that now it was bigger.

Kazuki could now perceive everything within this crystal. He could see exactly how it was formed.

(Interesting. Even though it was I who made it, I did not know it would be like this. I don’t know if these are atoms or molecules but the way they are ordered is in a very stacked-like manner.)

Kazuki’s curiosity got to him and he curled a finger. One of these stacked layers broke off individually and landed perfectly in his hand. Looking it over it was quite strange. It was shaped like a small sphere but at the same time, it was vibrating constantly in his hand.

Kazuki couldn’t understand this. There was no energy inside that he could tell but this strange sphere was moving all on its own. Not just this sphere but all of the stacked layers were vibrating ever so slightly as if they were bound by some other laws Kazuki could not perceive.

(How strange. Even though this is happening right in front of my very eyes, even though my aura is covering my surroundings, I can not detect what is causing the layers inside of this crystal to move. All things require energy to move, this is true in both magic and science but I can’t detect anything at all.)

Kazuki shook his head in doubt before he flicked his finger, sending the small sphere back toward its original spot. Before it landed in its spot though, Kazuki witnessed something else that baffled him. The small sphere he had just launched accelerated and was sucked into its spot. Again Kazuki felt no energy as this sphere had just moved faster than the force he had sent it at.

(Where is this power coming from.)

Kazuki shook his head as he really had no idea. Looking at the stacked layers he remembered the Mages research. One of the reasons crystals could not hold much power is because certain parts would absorb too much energy while other parts would absorb or hold less energy. Because one place held more and another place held less, things were uneven and the part that held more would become overwhelmed and would break. Once one part of the crystal broke that power would not simply dissipate. Instead, it would move to the nearest stacked layer.

(These stacked layers are made up of dozens and sometimes hundreds of these weird vibrating spheres.)

Kazuki sent a wave of power toward these stacked layers and witnessed as some absorb more energy than others. He kept adding energy to it until one of the spheres was overloaded with energy and broke. Once it broke it vanished entirely and the energy it stored jumped to the nearest vibrating spheres. Since some of those spheres already had energy within them, the moment this overwhelming amount of energy entered them they would also break, and the cycle would create a domino effect causing every single one to become overloaded.

(If this is the case, it means these small spheres don’t know what to do next and simply send the energy to the next and so on. What if there was a way for them to check before this energy was simply forced upon them and overwhelmed them.)

Kazuki’s aura stretched out and he began inscribing on these small vibrating spheres, Very quickly he finished on several stacks before he started to pour his energy into a single sphere he left unchanged. The moment the energy became too much this vibrating sphere broke and sent the energy to the nearest other spheres. Once these spheres were nearly full, Kazuki’s inscriptions kicked in and a tiny barrier formed around the spheres, blocking the excess energy.

The energy tried to enter but bounced off the barrier and jumped to the next sphere and then the next and the next until finally, it found a sphere that wasn’t full and began to fill it up. Some of this was based on the Mage’s own research and some of it was from Kazuki himself. The Mage could never do what Kazuki did. By increasing the size of the crystal, Kazuki could see and witness what others could not. In doing so, he could change what others never could.

With this simple method, Kazuki had increased the efficiency of this crystal by thousands of percent. With this one thing, it would change the way people thought about crystals and how they would be used, well, that is if Kazuki wanted to share this or not.

For now, though, Kazuki had another idea. He analyzed these small spheres and tried to simply create them himself but he couldn’t. He didn’t know how these vibrating spheres were created. For now, all he could do was create a brand new crystal and increase its size just like the first one. Once he did that, he took the vibrating spheres from one crystal and placed them inside the other one.

He then modified them with magic before placing them side by side or stacking them with the original spheres. To his surprise, just like how the first sphere was pulled into place by some unknown force, the spheres he brought in from the other crystal were automatically pulled into place with the others. Afterward, Kazuki began to fill the crystal with his power, and just as he thought, the crystal absorbed more energy.

Of course, it would absorb more energy since he added double the amount of vibrating spheres but it did not simply absorb double. Instead with his little modification, the capacity had changed as well. Some of the vibrating spheres were squished and left without room but instead of being crushed, these spheres fused with other spheres slightly changing their shape to an almost egg-like form. Now there were some vibrating spheres and some vibrating egg-like shapes.

Kazuki didn’t care about the shape and instead focused on the capacity and was shocked.

(This crystal doesn’t hold just double the power but instead almost a hundred times. Holy shit!)
