Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 70
The tide of battle was obviously in Kazuki’s favor. After he killed the rat-like bastard and destroyed his soul, Asuna and Nunully took down an opponent by freezing and burning them at the same time. Mei and Tsura killed one another and Danny, Triska, Shin, and Kimi felled another. Lamia who was more toward the back even contributed with a wave of frozen ice. This allowed Shaila, Sam, and the rest to end their foes as well.
In the end, all of the enemies were defeated but a single one. The smoke creature was giving Alutra a difficult time. Its body was elusive and physical attacks didn’t seem to work and passed through it. Beyond that though, a ring with hundreds of blades attached to it spun with unholy death. They had only just learned that this was a Divine Soul weapon and that a single cut from it could destroy their soul so everyone had backed away.
While Alutra was the most powerful in this Lower Realm when it came to magic might, her strength was something different. She was below Kazuki by leaps when it came to physicality and compared to this smoke creature she was below it as well, though not by much.
Because of this though, she could not rely on her magic nor could she rely on her strength and could only deal with this smoke bastard with speed and technique.
Alutra had her own Divine Soul weapon. It was a long glaive and contained a power that could destroy this entire Realm if she wasn’t careful.
Due to her Divine weapon clashing with the smoke creatures, ripple effects quickly started to spread. Combined with the magic everyone had used just moments ago, the fabric of the Realm started to waver and shake. Detra immediately put her focus into maintaining the Realm and repairing it as quickly as possible. She called upon Asuna to help her stabilize space in their surroundings and the two went to work.
At the same time, everyone else was forced to retreat beside Kazuki. The effects of the two’s battle was constantly sending powerful waves outward in all direction. These waves contained divine energy from the two’s Divine Soul weapons and each one was fatal.
While this was happening Kazuki focused on the smoke creature and watched its movements carefully.
(Everyone, there will be an opportunity. When it happens be ready to attack with the full might of your aura.)
Kazuki’s words kept them on full alert.
(Kazuki. This creature is almost impossible to hit. Even if we send our auras, it can cut them apart with its weapon. We need to either hold him down or stop the movement of his weapon.)
Danny’s words were spot on. This opponent would not be one to be slowed by physical force and taken out in that manner. To use their physical force on it in the first place would be disastrous to the Realm and could cause its destruction.
The smoke creature all this while was smiling fiendishly and the glow of his ring started to darken.
(RING OF DEATH, GIVE ME MORE!)
The smoke creature roared in the silence of space and his spinning ring answered the call. A sudden rush of soul energy flew toward his ring of death. It was the souls of all of the enemies they had killed, all except the rat bastard since Kazuki had destroyed that one’s soul. Everyone else that was slain had their souls pulled into his Divine Soul weapon all at once.
(Shit! so this was his play.)
Kazuki and everyone realized too late what he was trying to do and he felt foolish. Most of his friends had just entered the 7th stage and had just gained aura. Many of them were unaware of just how important the soul could be. It wasn’t enough to just kill an opponent now, you had to also destroy their soul if you were to give them a permanent death. Otherwise, there were far too many ways to regain a new body.
Kazuki of course knew this but he hadn’t expressed it properly to those that didn’t know.
Before Kazuki could activate the spinning void in his soul world, the souls of his enemies were already sucked directly into the smoke creature’s ring of death.
The divine energy coming from the ring of death suddenly grew stronger, denser than before, and with it so to did the weapon itself grow stronger and faster.
Alutra who was just barely keeping up quickly found herself in a situation and the ring of death cut down into her arm.
(ALUTRA!)
Alutra quickly knocked the ring of death away and retreated backward.
(I’m fine. Just a little thrown off. He may have a Divine soul weapon but the divine energy within is too weak to kill me in a single blow. For the rest of you though it means instant death so stay back!)
The smoke creature saw Alutra was still alive and was disappointed.
(That’s what one would expect facing a Demigod. I can’t finish you in a single blow but that doesn’t mean you will be able to stay on your feet for too long. How many more can you take before your soul is destroyed.)
The smoke creature threw his spinning ring directly at Alutra. It spun so fast that it was barely visible to her and Kazuki. She could only rely on her sense to block.
The smoke creature smiled once more before disappearing on the spot, his voice echoing out into the void.
(How long can you keep this up? How long can you avoid your impending doom? Funny is it not. You killed a Demigod but you will soon die by the power of someone an entire stage below you.)
While the two fought, Kazuki and Danny flew away at high speed and vanished from sight. Seeing this the smoke creature only grew more confident.
(Even your allies have abandoned you. Soon I will kill you and then take that monkey and the corpse from your cowardly ally.)
The clash of their weapons caused the Realm to waver even greater and tears started to appear one by one in the fabric of reality and space.
Alutra was still holding onto her little furball and could only swing her glaive with a single arm. She understood right away she could not keep up with the smoke creature’s speed which was frustrating and dangerous. Without a second thought, she stuffed the red and black furball into her cleavage and gripped the glaive with her other hand.
(You stay put in there or mama will be mad!)
The little furball released a few squeaks. Whether this was a cry of understanding or a cry of sadness no one knew.
The moment her other hand gripped her weapon, a fire was lit in her eyes and her speed suddenly increased twofold.
At the same time, Kazuki’s called out to her.
(Alutra, there’s no need to hold back. Use your magic!)
Alutra was shocked hearing this. If she really went all out, she would easily destroy this Realm but it was Kazuki who was telling her to do so. Since it was Kazuki though, she placed her trust in him.
After knocking the high-speed spinning ring back once again, her glaive suddenly started to glow with golden light. Golden flames erupted from her glaive and surrounded by a layer of divine magical energy.
The smoke creature saw this and was both dumbfounded and shocked.
(Are you crazy! Do you mean to destroy this place while we are still in it!?)
The smoke creature was unsure if it could survive within a destroyed Realm. No matter how powerful it was, could one survive in a place that no longer exists. Even it was unsure and this unsure nature was not worth the risk.
ALutra was the one t rush forward this time. As she went, the Realm was being destroyed in front of everyone. Asuna and Detra could not repair it fast enough.
Alutra appeared directly in front of the smoke creature and swung her glaive with all of her might. The smoke creature’s calm demeanor flipped and it panicked. It could sense a frightening power and force behind this attack. It knew if it dodged and this attack was unleashed upon the Realm in its entirety that the whole Realm would collapse and be destroyed. At the same time, if he took the attack head-on with his own weapon, his weapon could very well break under this power.
(Damn this crazy bitch!)
The ring weapon spun at its fastest possible speed and began to glow with an orangish flame before the two connected.
*BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!*
Even though sound was not supposed to be possible in space, once more the connection of these weapons caused a loud boom to echo out across the stars. It was like several stars had exploded at once, or rather that’s what it should have been like. The explosion was quickly torn apart by arcs of red lightning from all around.
In every direction, there were thick bolts of red lightning whipping and crackling by the millions. Neither Alutra nor the smoke creature knew when or how this lightning appeared but the two could only look around in shock.
