Return of the Fallen Volume 10 Chapter 86
The golden beam of light suspended in space went hazy before fading completely. In its place, there was a familiar figure.
Alutra and Kazuki recognized this person right away and rushed over while calling out in excitement.
(BROTHER!)
(FATHER!)
It was Lin. The man who adopted and raised both Kazuki and his older brother Kai. The only true parent Kazuki had.
Alutra and Kazuki embraced Lin and basically smothered him before finally letting him breathe a little. The man looked wary, to say the least. His eyes were drawn and sunken ever so and he had a body filled with scars. Still, the moment he looked at Kazuki and his sister, a bright smile covered his face and he began to cry tears of joy.
“Kazuki, my boy.”
The way he said this, one could tell the man had suffered and it made Kazuki’s heart ache. Kazuki had not known what happened to Lin back then. He didn’t know whether the man had died or had simply abandoned him. After talking with his grandfather though he learned the man hadn’t abandoned him but was called away and tricked. Afterward, Orberus disallowed Lin from returning.
Lin looked at Kazuki. He had seen him back in the Higher Realm but that was so brief and he was highly emotional, he didn’t get a chance to really see Kazuki. Seeing him now, seeing how much he’d grown from a young child into a young man before everything fell apart. Now seeing him as a grown man, taking charge and even saving him. Lin felt proud of his son.
“Isn’t this precious. Such a touching family reunion. My son, grandson, and daughter have come together in a sweet embrace awww. Disgusting! Here I thought Lin did something right for once in raising you into a formidable little bastard but seeing you hug each other so eagerly shows me just how soft and weak you really are. I’ve seen your life Kazuki and know how cruel and cunning you can be. This weak attitude does not suit my grandson one bit.”
Kazuki felt a fire burning in his gut.
(Is that all you have to say? If so, you can leave now. No one here needs you nor do we want you. With this, our deal should be done, right?)
Lin became worried hearing Kazuki speak to Orberus with such disregard and he swiftly pushed Kazuki behind him just in case Orberus retaliated. Kazuki felt a warmth in his heart knowing that even now after all this time, Lin still cared enough to try and protect him. Alutra as well held her glaive with such strength that her knuckles turned white.
Kazuki though was unafraid and he knew Orberus’s personality well, maybe even more so than Orberus’s own children did. Alutra and Lin grew up under him and knew only to fear him. Kazuki on the other hand did not know of him and never learned to fear him. Maybe one could say that was a detriment but to Kazuki, he saw it as an advantage in certain ways. Kazuki gathered information from the way Orberus spoke and behaved. He took in details that others might overlook.
He learned a lot just from the fact that Orbeurs had watched him, observed him from the moment the golden compass had been hung around his neck. So many times Kazuki faced life and death and other dire situations and yet Orberus never saved him. One could say that he had no care for Kazuki but this wasn’t one hundred percent true. If it were, Kazuki would have never been able to use the godly aura within the compass to strengthen himself.
Orberus didn’t personally help but didn’t deny Kazuki his aura when Kazuki used it. Not only that but there was also the fact that Orberus did not kill Lin, even though Lin stood up to him. Instead, he sent Lin into his prison world to be tortured. This told Kazuki that even if he pissed Orberus off, the man would not kill him. Punish him, yes but kill no. To top it all off, Gods were prideful. To lower themselves to commit harm to someone who wasn’t an enemy could be said to be beneath them.
Even when Orberus stopped the two foes who stepped into this Lower Realm moments ago. He did not kill them nor did he technically harm them. Instead, he simply held them still and allowed Kazuki to kill them. Those two creatures had nothing to do with him and to kill them was as simple as having a thought yet Orberus didn’t do that and held them suspended in light.
If he didn’t even kill those beings, what did Kazuki have to fear or so his thought process went.
*Hah*
“You really are a little shit but my blood still runs through you. Yes, It is about time I leave this filthy little cage you call a Realm. From this day forth, you three are no longer of my clan. You step one foot into the Higher Realms, we have zero connection and what you do is none of my business and nor is mine any of yours. Knowing you three though, your too cowardly to come up here, heh. Such disappointments all of you.”
With that Orberus’s voice faded from this Realm. Just before his presence was completely gone though, his voice entered Kazuki’s mind and his mind alone.
(Abandon them before they become your weakness. This is my last bit of advice you little shit!)
A single beam of light shot down and Kazuki’s golden compass appeared in his hand. After that, Orberus left entirely.
The instant the compass appeared in his hand, Alutra, Lin, and Kazuki all stared at it. Lin remembered the day he returned this compass to Kazuki and felt a mix of emotions. Kazuki on the other hand was already beyond this memento. He gripped it with everything he had and it began to crack. Lin was taken aback but he didn’t stop him.
Before Kazuki wasn’t capable of breaking this compass as it was made special in the Higher Realm. Now though, with his grandfather’s powers completely withdrawn from it, it was only a tough piece of metal. Using a bit more strength the crack expanded until the compass broke and crumbled in his hand.
Kazuki then teleported to the nearest son and without a second thought, he tossed the remains into a blazing star. The compass melted and was reduced to nothing after a fraction of a second and was no more.
(With this Orberus no longer has any connections or tools inside this Realm. He won’t be able to find this Lower Realm even if he searches for a billion years.)
Kazuki recalled how the Lower Realms moved around randomly. For a God to find a specific Realm was basically impossible. The only way they could find it is if they had something of their within that had a bit of their power attached to it. Part of Kazuki’s deal with Orberus was for Orberus to get rid of anything and everything he had in this Realm. In doing so, Orberus would no longer be able to find or interfere with Kazuki and the people he cares about ever.
Kazuki opened a new rift and reappeared next to Alutra and Lin.
(Father… let’s go.)
Lin smiled before ruffing up Kauzki’s hair a bit.
(This boy, hehe.)
Alutra also joined in. She wrapped her arms around Kazuki and Lin’s arms, linking them with hers before she sped down to Glaicous’s tiny world in the Rin mountain range.
The mood was bright and cheery as Kazuki introduced Lin to everyone. Most of them tough did not need introductions as quite a few of them had already seen Kazuki’s memories. Asuna and Nunully introduced themselves and Kazuki followed up by saying.
“These two are my future brides.”
Asuna and Nunully began to blush before nodding along. Alutra began elbowing Kazuki in his side teasingly.
“Oh oh, when did this happen? Hehe, my nephew can’t just have one, so bold, hehe.”
Alutra then saw Detra across a table and dove at her. She playfully rubbed her cheek against Detra’s before proposing.
“Detra hurry up and marry me. I want to be a bride to you know!”
Detra’s face went bright red and she froze on the spot. This brought all kinds of jeering and hollering from everyone else.
Lin as well was already shaking his head at his sister’s craziness. He turned his attention back to Asuna and Nunully.
“Both of you are lovely. I’m glad Kazuki can have some form of happiness after everything that’s happened. Thank you for protecting his heart.”
Lin smiled before continuing.
“I guess this means I’ll be your father-in-law. I don’t know if I can be any good but please be patient with me. Again, thank you.”
Asuna and Nunully had seen how kind Lin was in treating and taking care of Kazuki and Kai growing up. They were both happy with his words and to see that he was still the kind man from earlier.
The two of them hugged Lin as if they had known him all this time and smiled.
“Please take care of us!”
