Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 103

After they left the slave market, Kazuki wondered.

“We could have gotten our slaves today yet you rushed us out. Was Tessa that much to bear?”

Viz sighed.

“You have no idea Jentson. Some women just have insatiable appetites and have no clue when to stop their pursuit. If we stayed any longer she might have tried to eat me or maybe even kidnap me.”

Marty chuckled.

“So do ya have any more acquaintances? First Sasha from the arena now Tessa from the slaver’s market. Who’s next I wonder?”

Viz’s expression turned serious.

“Marty you have no idea. This is just another reason why I wish to be out of this city and leave it behind once and for all.”

Kazuki was surprised.

“You wish to leave the city. You’re a God, why not just leave?”

“If it’s simply leaving the city, I can leave Gauldriss any time I wish but things are not so simple. It’s more than just Gauldriss but all four of the major cities in the area. I want to get off-world and travel to someplace completely different and new and set myself apart from the rest of the weak. I want my name to rain down from above and last for an eternity as a legend. I have been trapped here my entire life. Do you have any idea what it’s like to be trapped in your own backyard surrounded by wolfs?”

Kazuki and Marty definitely knew what it was like to be trapped in a hostile environment with the world against you. The two couldn’t help but share a knowing look but they didn’t really have a reason to discuss that dying world that no longer exists.

“I’ve always wished to get out of this place and recently my passion to leave has been reignited.”

“How did that happen?”

Viz pointed into the sky far into the distance but there was nothing there.

“Recently, there was a large explosion far away. From the information that’s been gathered, I received word that it was some type of world that contained the power of a powerful God. Something exciting happened so far away and I was not a part of it. I could only watch from here while some unfathomable mysteries are out there taking place without me. I crave adventure and freedom, not this ugly rotting city.”

Marty, Arc, and Kazuki all knew the place he was talking about. The decaying eye. They were there personally and basically were the catalyst that set off said explosion. That was no fun time and they had just barely escaped death but Viz was basically unknowingly envious of them. Kazuki shook his head.

“It’s far too easy to die in some far-off corner of the universe. One wrong move and you could vanish forever, your name unknown, and this so-called legend you speak of would be nothing more than a waste of time. Chasing this dream

Kazuki’s words paused in his throat as Viz glared at him.

“You think my dream is a waste of time. What kind of man are you to not crave adventure? I forgot you come from some random Lower Realm. All you know is the backside of some small off-star system. In that place though, even you who are only at the 7th stage have the freedom to go anywhere you please in that Lower Realm. Not just there but you could traverse any Lower Realm you wish. You have no idea what it’s like for me. A God should not be jealous of a MORTAL!”

Viz cooled down a bit and shook his head.

“Forget it, getting angry at you…Now that is a waste of my time. I still have many things I need to take care of. You lot should head back to the boy’s shop and hide away inside of that barrier while I handle business.”

Before Anyone could say anything, Viz vanished and left them in the street.

Even though everyone else would walk so as to avoid accidentally harming someone by traveling at high speeds. Viz did not abide by this common courtesy and moved without care.

(He claims he wants freedom but in this city who has more freedom than a true God.)

“Jentson you old young dog, are ya trying to get us killed by Viz? Your tongue will get us all into trouble at this rate.”

Kazuki nodded.

“Right. I was being careless. I just couldn’t help but think about some of the troubles we’ve experienced and let my mouth go. Sorry about that.”

Marty shook her head.

“Forget it, just be careful. One thing ya gotta realize is that Gods are temperamental and their egos can be just as fragile as anyone else’s. The fact that they can kill us all though makes them something you must handle with caution.”

“Yeah, I’ve noticed. Let’s hurry up and head back before something else unexpected happens.”

As soon as he said that he suddenly felt eyes on his back. The curious God was once again watching him. Kazuki didn’t say anything and began moving toward the direction of the shop.

(This figure is back. Kazuki, ignore his presence and just get to the shop.)

While they were walking Marty continued.

“I still don’t get it. Viz rushed off before we could ask. Just why can’t he leave the city.”

Samuel shook his head.

“He didn’t say he couldn’t leave the city. he is a God after all but of course, there are a few problems. Have none of you noticed? Even though Sir Viz has such imense strength, he belongs to no Faction. Not only that but earlier when we were in the slaver’s market, Tessa had called him a lone wolf. When you have someone that strong who’s basically alone, just by existing it creates problems for others that rely on their strength. He was handling the three Gods in the arena with ease, his power must be an eyesore for others. I’m sure he has many enemies. Not just in this city but in other cities as well.”

Kazuki was surprised by how astute the boy was.

“Makes sense. If he were to step outside this city, it would not be the beasts he has to worry about but other Factions and other Gods. Viz is cocky and does not put others in his eyes. I’m sure there are many people who wish to claim his life. At the same time, if he wishes to leave, can’t he just take the stargate.”

Kazuki looked around. From the description he heard, a stargate was a large arching gate that could teleport one all across the three Higher Realms. From where he stood, he figured such a thing would be easy to spot but he could see no such object that fit the description anywhere in the city. He also couldn’t fly since that was illegal in the city so that made it that much harder to spot anything fitting that description.

“By the way, where is the so-called stargate? I don’t see anything like that anywhere.”

Samuel shook his head.

“You wouldn’t be able to see it as it is not outside. As for the size, some are indeed large and can be several hundred feet high but this is not all of them nor is it even most of them. The larger the stargate, the more energy it requires. Most stargates only take you to the nearest other stargates. It’s a safety feature. Otherwise, it would be easy for anyone with enough divine crystals to move armies into enemy territories to take over. The stargate here in Gauldriss is actually back in the arena. It’s been built there for convenience’s sake as well as for security purposes. After all who would dare attack or invade from such a place? The moment you come through you would be completely surrounded by an arena full of fighters.”

“So then the problem Viz has. Could it be the cost or is it the fact that the location is in the arena? After all, I don’t think the other Factions would be too keen on letting him use it if he comes off so arrogantly.”

Samuel shrugged.

“I don’t think it’s about his arrogance. It may really just be about the cost. I’ve never personally had the opportunity to use a stargate but the amount of divine energy required is not something anyone can just come up with. I wondered why Viz was so interested in getting your shares Sir Jentson. If he knew about the new weapons my shop has, then he must have known how well they would sell. Once my weapons hit the market, riches will surely flood in. He who is alone and has no backing, my shop seems to be his only way to fulfilling his dream. Still, him joining us, he is risking his life just to get out of here. That’s crazy.”

“No…Not crazy. If he really has been trapped in this city all his life, then risking his life for a sliver of freedom… makes sense. At least to me.”
