Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 107

As Kazuki released his aura on Mei and Kosaru, he demanded they answer.

“Answer me!”

The pressure was close to that of a collapsing star and neither would be able to withstand it for long. Their bones were being crushed and their internal organs squeezed until they were liquified. Their blood reversed and their vision became foggy as they cried in agony.

(Big Brother…Why?)

Mei asked this with a pitiful look.

Kazuki shook his head.

“The pain you are currently feeling is only the beginning. The future will only bring more suffering if you cannot even endure this much, how in the 7 Realms of Hell do you think you will be able to survive? Where was that fighting spirit form before, where is your rage? When your enemy pushes you to the brink of destruction, will you simply lay on the ground and cry as the blade of death takes your head or will you push through the anguish? Will you rise up, and with every ounce of your being, fight to your last dying breath!?”

Mei and Kosaru continued to cry but even through the tears, Kazuki could feel a subtle change within their souls. Mei gripped her fist closed as tightly as possible and her aura and magic gathered around her. Slowly she began to rise to her feet while issuing a battle cry.

“YESSSSSSSSSSS!”

This roar from her helped ignite something within Kosaru and all of the fur atop his body stood on end as he grit his teeth and slowly lifted his head. He was physically weaker than Mei so he could not stand like her but still, he lifted his little head and through the tears and pain he cried out.

“BIG BROTHER! I WILL FIGHT!”

The moment he said this, his eyes rolled up into the back of his head and he fainted on the spot.

Kazuki quickly pulled back his aura and aura breath and released them from this strain. He released his ki and helped heal both of them and took away their pain. He picked up Kosaru and laid him down gently on the bed. The warm healing effect of his ki eased Kosaru’s pained look and he began to breathe evenly with a calm expression.

“Big brother…With this, you can’t turn us away. With this, we will fight by your side no matter what.”

Mei spoke weakly but again there was a fierce determination in every word before she too passed out. Just before she fell and hit the ground, Kazuki scooped her up in his embrace and saw that even now she had her fist clasped tightly causing her nails to dig into her hands painfully. Kazuki unclasped her hands and laid her down next to Kosaru and Kosaru even in his sleep wrapped his small arms around Mei and held her close.

Kazuki saw this and couldn’t help but sigh. Just as Kazuki went to stand up, Mei opened her eyes and grabbed his hand.

“Big brother! Don’t leave us again.”

Tears were in her eyes once more. Kazuki squeezed her hand back before wiping her tears with his other hand.

“Don’t worry. Just sleep for now. Your Big brother will be here when you wake up. I promise.”

Kazuki after wiping her tears placed his hand on her forehead and sent his ki directly into her mind. The warmth from it eased her fears and calmed her heart. Her eyes slowly shut and she fell back to sleep. Kazuki sat there with the two of them for a while as he thought about what to do.

(In order for us to have even a remote chance, I must prepare them in every conceivable way I know how.)

(And how do you plan to do that exactly?)

(For starters I’ll teach them how to fold their aura. The thing they’ll need most is a tough defense and a way to escape from danger. I’ll show them how to use aura breath to help suppress their enemies as well as ki to multiply their physical strength and speed. I’ll share everything I know about magic and aura and so on.)

(Everything you know. What about the devouring technique? With that, their strength would explode upwards and rise at an unprecedented rate.)

(That I cannot. The technique, even if I have tweaked it to suit my needs it is too dangerous for them to know. If they accidentally show it in front of others and are suspected of being minions or disciples of Ourodyess. This would place them on every God’s radar and they would be hunted down and killed. Even if they aren’t caught using it and a God just searches their soul and discovered it, the same thing would play out. With you along with my soul reading ability and my disguise using a fake Jentson soul, I can avoid a curious glance from a God or two but if they were to dig deeper and tear through Jentson’s disguise, they would know what I am hiding.)

(This is just another reason why the search for my missing piece is far more important than these smaller goals you have. Once my piece is found, not a single God would be able to see through my power of protection. You could go around the Higher Realms in whatever disguise you want at that point. Hell, even if you wished to roam with your actual face, no one would be able to tell it was you with my power covering you.)

(What about the boy? Kosaru was able to find you and me through smell. If your power was restored would you not have an even stronger smell?)

(This and that are different. He smelled me because of my power but he couldn’t find you because you changed your scent. He and Mei only realized it was you because I am attached to your finger. Don’t get me wrong the boy has clear talent but there are still many flaws in his ability. Once I am restored, a small brat will see only what I wish for him to see.)

Kazuki shook his head.

(Fine.)

Leaving the room, he checked the two once more and saw that they were sleeping peacefully. Going downstairs, Marty was downstairs reading a book.

“So how are your kids?”

Kazuki smiled.

“You think I have kids?”

Marty put her book down and shrugged.

“If not yours then who’s? I mean they literally jumped out of an alley and basically tackled ya.”

“But as you heard, they also called me big brother when they did that. You know they’re not my kids and more than anything they would be siblings with that call of theirs but you already know they aren’t.”

Marty nodded.

“True, they don’t seem to be your siblings either but they definitely aren’t some random strangers to ya either. So do ya want to speak on it or is this something else ya don’t wish to tell me?”

There was a bit of a bite in that statement. At least that’s what Kazuki gathered from it.

“Is there something wrong Marty?”

Marty sighed.

“It’s just weird ya know. I mean we’ve literally fought side by side and risked our lives saving one another. Does that not count for something? Does that not equal trust of some kind? It just feels really shitty on my end. I know I shouldn’t ask or dig as ya have a right to you’re own privacy but at the same time, it feels so cold…Forget it, I’m saying nonsense right now. I guess I’m just sensitive sometimes.”

Marty lifted up her book and started reading again when Kazuki lowered it.

“Everyone has things they have to keep secret.”

Marty nodded.

“Which is why I won’t ask ya. I’m just telling ya it feels chilly on my side is all.”

“Your right. I have secrets that I haven’t shared with you but it’s not because I don’t trust you. I’ve held things back simply because it could be dangerous for you. If my enemies were to get a hold of you, they would know what you know and that could leave me exposed and lead you to your demise.”

“So you’re protecting me from danger and yourself from danger as well. Kazuki, the moment we agreed to help Samuel, we were placed in a dangerous situation. My enemies are already those that stand above me. The danger is already at its highest.”

Kazuki nodded.

“Maybe or maybe that highest point is hiding something far scarier. If you really want to know. I will tell you and at that point if you wish to leave…I won’t stand in your way. I just hope you will allow me to do something audacious.”

“And what is that?”

“If you do wish to leave after hearing what I have to say, after hearing what I reveal, you will allow me to enter your soul and erase any memory of me. If you agree to that, I’ll tell you what I’ve been hiding.”
