Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 123
After all was said and done, Kazuki convinced Viz to let him keep his secrets as his own, while at the same time, Viz would be more than a business partner. Viz would now be an ally and Kazuki could rely on his strength. In return for this strength, Kazuki would help Viz to finally leave this city and escape the edge of this Realm. In a way it was similar to the decaying world he and Marty had just recently escaped.
There they were cornered and faced death and now when they were once again tossed into the flames of destruction. The only way out was to band together and fight with everything they had.
“Since we have come to an agreement, I suppose I should have a short chat with this stranger here.”
The half-dragon was standing nearby just outside of Viz’s barrier so he was unaware of their conversation entirely. Viz gave him a look before turning back to Kazuki.
“Do you really intend to help this broken God, is that even possible?”
Kazuki was unsure himself.
“I may not be a Druid but I have gained one of their abilities to read another being’s soul. This comes with a multitude of benefits. One such benefit is the ability to repair a damaged person’s soul. Though I have never tested it out on a God…Actually, I haven’t even tried it on a Demigod either but I think it will work. The question is, what do I gain from helping a God with a damaged soul.”
Viz understood.
“Another ally, and since this man is part dragon, he should be quite powerful at full strength. Not as strong as me but a boon no doubt to our increased powers. I guess you should hear him out. I suggest you ask about those eyes first of all. He could see through you and knew that you had a unique ability before ever meeting you. That can be a tool or a disaster depending on how that card is played.”
Kazuki was surprised by how quickly Viz was now accepting things but it made sense. Viz seemed very closed off the first time they met but it was becoming increasingly clearer that he was like that on the surface only. Someone who craves for adventure and freedom, should not be closed off from the world.
“Right, your barrier Viz.”
Viz expanded his barrier slightly so that it now covered all three of them. The stranger was now within. This made him nervous as he was now trapped inside and within Viz’s grasp so to speak.
“Before you say anything broken one, know this, Jentson is my ally. If you try and pull any tricks, no if I even think you are trying to deceive, I will crush you before you can blink. Do you understand broken one?”
The half-blood swallowed hard before eeking out a tiny.
“yes.”
“Alright, Viz no need to scare him to that degree. He may be a God but as you said he’s already broken, he poses no threat to you.”
“I know, but as your comrade, it needs to be made clear right from the start that deception will not be tolerated. Otherwise, you get thorns in the side and knifes in the back before you even realize what happened.”
“Ok, fair enough. Let us get started then. I don’t know what to call you since you have no name so let’s just forget that from now. You said you could see my ability, how is that possible?”
The stranger shook his head.
“I…I don’t know. All I know is that when I look at you I can see a special power in your soul. It is like a warm all-encompassing light. The moment I saw it, I knew you could help me.”
Kazuki looked at the man’s eyes, one yellow and one red just like Glacious.
(He doesn’t seem to be lying. Viz what do you think, can you read him?)
(I detect no falsehoods so far but it’s hard to tell when one is covered in a veil of fear like he is.)
“Ok so are you saying you don’t know how your own power works? How can that be?”
The man tried to think and when he did it was obvious he was in pain.
“I…I don’t know. My memory, It’s all scrambled up. I know the memories are there but every time I try and look into my soul world, my mind is filled with darkness and it feels as if my soul world is falling apart and being ripped to shreds. I can’t recall my past let alone my own name or how my powers work. This is why I need your help. I just want to know who I am, I just wish for this pain to leave me and never return.”
“So to make it simple. There is something wrong with your soul world and it has affected your memories and causes you excruciating pain. Interesting.”
(Viz do you know anything about these symptoms?)
(A God whose soul is so damaged that they can’t recall their past, no. Even if you’re soul has been almost entirely obliterated and only a mere fragment remains you should still be able to recall your memories to a certain extent. The pain makes no sense either. Maybe if a powerful foe left a soul mark in his soul world. That could explain it but otherwise…I don’t get it.)
(I guess the only way to actually know is to go inside and have a look around.)
“Stranger…If there is a possibility that I can in fact help you. What will I get in return?”
The stranger looked pitiful hearing this and Viz was slightly surprised. Kazuki didn’t care about their looks though.
“You did not think I would be doing this for free. My heart is not so warm. If I help you, of course, I demand payment. So again, what will you give me?”
The stranger did not hesitate as he shouted.
“ANYTHING! Please, I will offer anything, everything, I just wish to no longer feel this pain, I just want to know who I am. This pain is troture. The unknowing is a fire that burns at my mind and soul constantly. Money, tools, knowledge. I give it all.”
The stranger took off his ring and presented it to Kazuki. Kazuki was curious and he was also expectant. Just how much wealth could a God have he wondered?
The ring had no protection and anyone could access it, this was the first surprise, the next was both a surprise as well as a disappointment. Taking a look inside the ring, its size could hold several small Realms within but what it actually contained was an emptiness unexpected. There was no wealth, no coins, no gold no crystal.
In the vastness of this ring, there were only 2 objects. One was a dull thick blade. It measured just over six feet in length and was a little over a foot wide from the base of the blade where it tapered little by little toward the end.
(A dull white blade, now that’s boring. Besides that, there is a book. Is this shit for real.)
Kazuki held no interest in such a plain-looking blade and just ignored it. As for the book, he took one glance at it. The cover was blank and held no title or inscriptions of any kind. Opening it up, there was nothing written. Every single page was blank.
Kazuki sighed inwardly.
(A dull blade and a blank book. How utterly ridiculous. You would find more things of value on the filthy street than inside this God’s ring. Now that’s funny.)
Kazuki chucked the ring to Viz and the ring paused in mid-air as Viz took a look inside.
(That’s it. I’ve heard of poor before but damn. This half-blood is no better off than a beggar down the road.)
Viz tossed the ring back and Kazuki tried to hand it back to the stranger but he refused.
“Please accept it, my most valued treasures. I need your help.”
Kazuki looked at the stranger and felt this was pointless.
“Look, I’m just not interested. The value of these items, I minus well throw it away. If there is nothing else you can offer, we should end the conversation here.”
The stranger wrapped his arms around Kazuki’s leg and began to beg more.
“Please if those treasures are not enough then what more can I offer? I have nothing else. Have mercy on me.”
This was exactly what Kazuki was waiting to hear. Even if there were planets worth of treasure, he wasn’t going to accept. He had all the cards in his hands. What he wanted was not necessarily wealth but something else. Having one God as an ally would give them a small chance but if he had two…
“What can you offer, hmm? How about your absolute loyalty? Become my slave and allow me to place a slave mark on you and become mine. That is the only way I will help you.”
