Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 139
Taking a look inside the Cortail family ring, Kazuki understood why Samuel said they now had a fat war chest. Inside the ring, there were thousands of Infinity Blades.
“With this much, we should have a mountain of Divine crystal when all is said and done.”
Kazuki tossed the ring to Marty and she took a look in as well.
“Hmm, impressive. Too bad it’s not already Divine crystal though. This many blades, don’t you think we’ll have trouble selling them all in time for Samuel’s so-called ambush? By the way, what are your thoughts on that? It’s not even a plan but the boy said it with such confidence it makes one wonder just how much trust he puts in himself or rather you.”
Kazuki sank a little into the couch and got more comfortable.
“The ambush is supposedly in a month’s time. This amount of time though, we will not need that long to sell all of these Infinity Blades. If I’m right, it should take little more than a week at the most. As for his trust and confidence, it is high but putting it in us, it is the best bet in my eyes. I’m already putting something together as we speak.”
Marty had no more thoughts on the plan. If Kazuki said he was coming up with something, then she believed in him. She had survived far too many times to doubt Kazuki’s cunning prowess and strategy. Most of the time she had seen his plans created and executed on the fly. She herself would consider herself highly intelligent but even she could not comprehend how Kazuki kept consistently coming up with new ideas on the spot to get himself out of trouble.
(Knowing him, no doubt his plan will be dangerous if not thrilling. Hehe, I’m looking forward to it.)
“I won’t mention plans for the danger ahead but these swords, how do ya suppose we’ll be able to dump them all on the market and sell them with so little time to spare?”
Kazuki held up three fingers.
“Firstly, many people in the city will be interested just from my battle in the arena. I killed someone with ease in a single swing with this sword. Everyone there who witnessed it could tell I did so with little to no effort. A mysterious blade appears with a mysterious figure who kills with a single swing. Rumor had already spread that day throughout the city before we even arrived back at Samuel’s shop. To own a mysterious and powerful blade there’s not a man or woman who seeks power that would not be interested. Secondly, Gider has already discovered a new rumor that’s already spread. Just as we know that the expert who crafted these blades is set to deliver his last shipment to Samuel, so too does the rest of the city know by now.”
Marty’s eyes became big as she understood.
“With the last shipment coming, it makes it sound like these blades will no longer be produced. Before we sold even a single blade we have, they’d already become a rarity. Demand would skyrocket instantly. Ka…Jentson, this is crazy! The amount we can make on a single blade would be astronomical!”
“Exactly. This all leads to the third and final point. If these powerful mysterious weapons are sold out before the ambush, the person or group that holds them could hold a major advantage. Maybe not over Gods, but Demigods could have an advantage over other Demigods and those below that would clearly have an advantage over those at their same level. This will most likely be the thinking of everyone in the city right now. Demand will rise even further and expectations along with it. People will be so starved for these weapons, they may literally sell us a piece of them if we asked. You can already tell that it’s already having an effect.”
Kazuki pointed toward the east with his chin and Marty’s senses followed. Outside the castle and all throughout the city, there were many powerful figures who were watching over Viz’s castle.
“These people, they don’t even dare to hide their greedy lust. Ever since you made your debut in the arena there have been a few eyes here and there watching us but now it looks like almost half the city is paying attention to us. If Viz were not here, I think some of them would say damn to the rules of the city, and take us.”
“Yes, you’re not wrong. Now though we have Viz on our side fully as well as Kori. Plus there are two more Demigods that used to be Gods among the slaves. Once I get a fortune worth of Divine crystals, I can have Kori or Viz help me to return them to Godhood.”
As Kazuki said this a cup of tea appeared in his hand and he began to sip it. Marty gave him a knowing look and Kazuki rolled his eyes before a second cup of tea appeared and she drank it with a teasing grin.
“You know you can make your own tea right?”
Marty shook her head.
“It will never turn out like yours so why try? Besides, free tea somehow makes it taste even better ya know.”
Kazuki and Maty shared a laugh before they talked about a few other things.
—————————————————————————-
The very next day just as the sun rose, there were already people at the gate awaiting to be let in. Even though Kazuki and the others had not made an announcement, a few people had witnessed the death of the old woman servant and saw Gider take something from her. The city of Gaudlriss was a rumor mill and it only took a little more than an hour for everyone to know of and put two and two together and realize that the second to last shipment was already in young Samuel’s hands.
Some people were pissed at this realization and wished they had come across the scene of the dying woman. If so, they would be rich beyond imagination with the contents of that ring. Those that were wiser though, knew of the consequences had that taken such a precious treasure. They connected Viz with Samuel. In that way, if they stole said ring, it would be the equivalent of stealing from Viz. o treasure in the universe was worth it to become enemies with a God of Viz’s caliber.
And so, people waited and waited and waited some more outside of Viz’s gate. At the same time, Kazuki walked along the courtyard and eyed them. They looked through the gate and saw the Infinity blade resting on his waist and felt envious.
Kazuki did this purposefully to get them talking and hyped. After a while, he went back which disappointed them but soon several slaves came out which immediately many found bizarre. Not because they were slaves but because they were wearing strange clothes many had never seen before.
Kazuki made them matching armor. All in a style from Earth. It was samurai armor. Each armor was entirely black and each of the slaves had an Infinity Blade tied to their hip. With their helmets off, everyone outside the gate could see the slave marks on their foreheads and knew they were slaves. Seeing these slaves walk around with powerful mysterious swords. For the first time in their lives, these free people felt envious and jealous of slaves.
The slaves looked like true and genuine warriors. Not just from the armor but also from the aura that spread out from them. Each one was powerful and dense. The training Kazuki had given them had vastly improved their combat abilities.
This all made the people waiting outside confused and made the air of mystery that much more mysterious. People could not wait to get an Infinity Blade.
To their grueling anticipation though it was not yet time. The warrior slaves came out slowly with tables and stalls and one by one they slowly began to set them up. These were Demigods so for them to move at a turtles pace was something that grated on the nerves of the potential customers waiting outside the gate. Especially because the longer this setup time took, the larger the crowd outside grew and grew. A few small scuffles started happening here and there which caused several factions to get involved.
What this did though was cause more disarray. The moment a faction showed up ad handled a fight, they would then make their way into the crowd deeper and deeper until they were nearly at the front of the gate. People found this dirty and diabolical but they could d nothing against any of these factions.
Very quickly the skirmishes and fights vanished as if they never happened. People understood that the more fights they caused the more the factions would take the opportunity and cut in front of them. Because of this realization, a strange peacefulness took hold. People were practically holding their breath so as to not offend and start some shit around them.
While all of this was happening outside, Kazuki, Viz, and the rest were laughing their ass off out of sight. Viz especially. He had never seen people acting so ridiculous for anything and he felt a weird sense of pride knowing that he was a part of the reason for it. Viz clenched a fist as he thought.
(A little more. Just a little more and I can finally be free of this damn city and the rot within it.)
