Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 15

ch15

“This is not a place for you. Please Leave.”

Kazuki was kind of stunned. If he leaves, that means he would have to return to the surface where the giant sandworms resided. This was basically a death sentence.

(I thought this man was reasonable since he’s the leader of this place but he seems even colder than Mack.)

Stez was respectable but he did not mince words. He had a duty to fulfill and in his eyes, Kazuki was utterly worthless. Right after he said this a few more laughs echoed out from the other Demigods while Mack smirked beside Stez. Marty though, was not having it and quickly defended Kazuki.

“Wait just a moment. The old man may not have any divine power but he is skilled in other areas. I’m sure we could find a use for him. We can’t just kick him out, that would be certain death.”

Stez shook his head.

“Marticia, this place, not just the tower but the entire island needs divine power to stay afloat. You and I both know this. Even the slightest increase in weight requires more energy. If Jentson here could provide his own divine power and support this island, pay his way, I would have no complaints, but with him contributing no divine power, it means an increased burden on all the rest of us. Why should any of us have to sacrifice more of our power when there is so little of it left? There’s barely enough divine energy in this world as is. Young one, I’m sorry, I know it may be cruel but we cannot afford to support you here. I must keep this Oasis afloat, otherwise all of us with fall to the sandworms below.”

Again, Stez was not being an asshole but his words still meant death for Kazuki. The gears in Kazuki’s mind began to turn rapidly as he tried to come up with a solution but he knew too little about this new environment to offer anything useful. This is when Marty again spoke up.

“Wait, you were the one who sent me out there when you saw the flash of light in the sky remember?”

Stez sighed but nodded along with Marty’s words.

“Yes, what about it?”

Marty pointed at Kazuki.

“This old man was the source of that light.”

Mack scrunched his brows and chimed in.

“Impossible, I felt no divine power from him and everyone knows the amount of regular magical energy in this place is even less than that. It’s not even a thousandth of the divine energy around here so to use that weaker magic just can’t happen. Stop it with the lies, Marty, you only make yourself less reputable.”

Marty’s eyes went wide.

“Mack can you take that tongue and hold it for me so I can cut it out. Why is it that everything you say is so offensive to the ear? It’s like you were born with shit for breath. Not stay out of the discussion and leave it to those who it actually involves.”

A vein on Mack’s forehead began to throb as he spoke through his teeth.

“This does involve me. It involves everyone who lives on this island. So keep your insults and think rationally before you piss the wrong one-off.”

All of a sudden a sword scythe appeared in Marty’s hand and a thick club appeared in Macks.

(Divine Soul weapons!)

Kazuki immediately noticed that both weapons emitted very little divine power. It was as if the two were just posturing.

(It makes sense. Neither one wants to waste energy but at the same time, they don’t wish to back down either.)

Suddenly a shift in the entire tower was felt as the island fell half a foot in an instant. Everyone’s eyes widened in shock and Marty and Mack instantly stored their weapons away. Stez looked at the two and the two both bowed their heads and sincerely apologized.

Stez sighed. With the weapons stored away, the island slowly returned to its former altitude.

“The two of you know better. If you wish to fight, then take it to the surface and be done with it. Getting caught up in the height of your emotions and these thoughtless actions threaten all of our lives. Both of you go to your rooms and reflect for 1 day.”

Mack and Marty both stared with wide eyes before Mack shut his eyes and walked away and up the stairs. Before Marty walked away she spoke out.

“Stez, I’m telling you this now. This man here used regular magic. Not only did he use regular magic but he also escaped from the mouth of a sandworm. He may not have divine power but I’m sure he can be of some use and for us to simply throw him away, this is not what we do or have you forgotten? Please take my words to heart before you do something hasty.”

Marty then turned to the rest of the Demigods and announced.

“I may have just met this man but he has done two things I have never seen before in this world and he may just be the key to our escape. I am more than willing to use extra energy to keep him here. How many opportunities like this will come? Will you all pull on the thread of hope and reduce it to a pile of scrapes or will you take a chance?”

“Marticia that is enough go to your room and cause no more fuss.”

Marty turned to Kazuki and shook her head.

“If this doesn’t work out, then I am sorry. My abilities and authority are limited here.”

Kazuki shook his head and put on a smile.

“Heh, if this is the last time we see each other, then that’s just the way it goes. It was nice meeting you, Marticia.”

Marty punched Kazuki in the arm playfully with a smile.

“It’s Marty.”

She then headed deeper into the tower and disappeared.

Stez looked at the other Demigods and called out.

“The rest of you, go on. I will handle this. Jentson was it…Is it true what Marticia said? Was it you who created the light in the sky?”

Kazuki didn’t deny it as this may be his only chance to stay in this place.

“Yes. I used one of these.”

Kazuki pulled out a tiny piece of cloth he had torn from his shirt and turned it into a talisman. Stez took one look at it and his curiosity grew. He opened his hand and the talisman was sucked away from Kazuki’s grip and landed softly in Stez’s palm.

His eyes looked it up and down and he peered through it using his aura. He immediately found it odd. Not the inscriptions that were written down on the tattered cloth but instead the ink that made up the inscriptions.

“This…isn’t ink at all, this is…blood?”

Kazuki nodded.

“Correct.”

Stez stared at Kazuki and Kazuki cut the tip of his finger and let out a single drop of blood. Just like the talisman, this drop of blood flew toward Stez before it paused in the air and he took a look.

“Interesting, your blood is very interesting. It contains such pure vitality as well as another power. Hmm, is this ki I sense?”

Kazuki was surprised for a split second.

(It makes sense some beings who have lived for hundreds of thousands if not millions of years would know about ki. I just never really thought about it before today.)

“You know about ki?”

“I’ve heard about it before. There are many energies in the cosmos. In the three Higher Realms, it is Divine energy that reigns supreme and then regular magic. Every now and again one might come across one of these inferior energies. The Lower Realms are chalked full of them. Haiki, Bezz, Eter, Psyki, Odalist energy, and so on and so forth. Most of these energies actually come from the same force and are only fragments of a whole…Anyway, I’m rambling. To think you were a ki user and you somehow converted this energy into the elements. This…Marty may be right about you.”

Kazuki was still thinking about all these other energies that Setz mentioned but there was one he failed to bring up.

“You said divine energy is supreme in the Higher realms but what about Origin energy?”

Stez acted as if Kazuki told a joke and began to laugh.

*Hehehahaha*

He nodded along.

“Sorry, I shouldn’t have laughed. You must have come from an advanced Lower Realm if you even know about Origin energy. Yes, Origin energy is indeed greater than Divine energy but what is the point if no one uses it or rather can’t use it. Origin energy is not something one can ever truly possess and finding it out in the Realms is beyond rare. In the end, Origin energy is only useful if one somehow manages to come across an Artifact, and only if you tame that Artifact can you then tap into the Origin energy. Those that manage to claim one of these Artifacts end up becoming rulers of thousands of Star paths with hundreds of billions of Gods beneath them. A Supreme God.”

Stez could see that Kazuki was becoming lost and stopped there.

“Never mind all of that. This talisman of yours may use weak magic but if you can convert ki energy an even weaker form of energy into regular magic, maybe this ability can be used with Divine energy as well.”

Stez went quiet for a moment while he thought of something before he made up his mind.

“Right, you can stay. Marticia has indeed picked up a good gem. Even if you are useless, this talisman has already opened my mind to new ideas and theories. Come, follow me.”

“I can stay?”

Stez nodded.

“At least for now. Marty said she will spare some energy and I as well will be your sponsor. Let’s hope something comes of this, otherwise, I will have to drop you down below.”
