Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 17

“What you just said isn’t wrong. Resadez was known to have split the Realm into three. He was a legendary being who had slain countless Gods. With his soul still around, he should be able to revive, that is true, but then why has he not?”

Kazuki obviously didn’t know the answer to Stez’s question.

“A being stronger than Gods and yet he hasn’t revived after all of this time…I can’t even begin to fathom why he hasn’t revived. Could be he actually can’t?”

Stez shrugged.

“No one knows for sure. There are several theories, one being that the sandworms constantly devouring his soul are preventing him from reviving. Others say it’s the lack of magical energy but I doubt that?”

“Why’s that?”

“A powerful being like Resadez used divine energy, what need would he have for regular magical energy?”

“If that’s the case, why do others even mention regular magical energy?”

Stez stared at Kazuki as if he were dumb before he realized.

“That’s right I forgot for a moment that you know very little about divine energy. Divine energy is the combination of one’s soul and the mastery over at least one element coming together in perfect harmony. Reaching forth and entering the 7th stage, one’s soul, regular magic, mind, and body come together. Reaching ever higher and becoming a Demigod one needs their soul to transform this transformation means that your soul is no longer just housed within your soul world but becomes a part of your everything. Yes, you still have a soul world and a soul tree but your soul isn’t just there anymore. It is contained in every ounce of flesh and every drop of blood. Once it reaches this level and it is combined with the mastery over a single element, one takes a half a step into Godhood and becomes a Demigod.”

Kazuki was blown away by this. He could never get the right information from Lin or Alutra because Orberus helped them become Demigods and Gods. It was like a man learning to run before ever crawling and before ever walking. One would have their own handicaps and hangups from this. Kazuki wondered if this was one of the reasons why he could technically beat his uncle and aunt. Yes, they could destroy him with their divine soul weapons but if it just came to the physical prowess and fighting, Kazuki was confident he could take the both of them on at the same time and walk away the victor.

“I don’t understand what this has to do with regular magic.”

Stez nodded.

“Right. the transformation of one’s soul and the mastery of an element. Let’s take away the soul transformation and just leave the mastery of a single element. The mastery of an element and the basics of regular magic, what is the difference between the two?”

Kazuki already knew this.

“Comprehension.”

Stez nodded.

“Exactly. Between the basics and full mastery is a single step away and that step is comprehension. This means that if one has full mastery of a single element then they have half of what makes up divine energy. If one already has a transformed soul and has mastered an element, then theoretically, one should be able to take regular magic and, with their transformed soul, turn it into divine energy.”

Kazuki was stunned.

“I…If that’s the case, doesn’t this mean that as long as you are already a Demigod and you have access to regular magic, couldn’t you just make your own unlimited supply of divine energy from the surrounding magical energy?”

Stez shook his horned head.

“You would think that would be the case. In this way, no Demigod or God should ever be lacking in divine energy but that just isn’t so. In all of the Realms, one either has to make their own divine energy with their own power inside of themselves, or you come across it somewhere and set up certain tools to basically mine it for you, which you then absorb. For some reason, one can not just turn the magical energy outside of your body into divine energy but once you absorb it and process it inside of your own body and turn it into your own magical energy, only then can you turn it into divine energy.”

A million different thoughts flooded Kazuki’s head.

(This doesn’t make sense. What is the difference between the magical energy in the outside world and the magical energy inside of your own body. When you’re at the first stage the magical energy outside of your body and what’s inside is basically the same. the major difference is the magical energy you take in is very raw and pure. It’s so pure in fact that it is like poison and the only way people at lower levels can even use magic is with the use of a magic tool such as a ring or staff and so on. There has to be a way for someone to process this energy before it enters their body. If one could figure that out, they could have unlimited divine energy. The question though is how?)

“That’s why the mere mention of using regular magical energy and turning it into divine energy is stupid. Without changing it in your body first, it means nothing. On top of that these people who even suggested using regular magic have never even set foot on this eyeball. Otherwise, they would know that this place lacks regular magical energy in the first place. All of this, in the end, brings us to you, Jentson.”

Kazuki tilted his old head and pointed a thin, bony finger at himself.

“Me, how so?”

Stez pointed at Kazuki’s waistband and another talisman flew out and landed in Stez’s hand.

“Your use of these talismans. turning your ki energy, a lesser form of energy, into regular magic, a higher form of energy. I don’t know what type of technique or ability this is but if you can do this then there just may be a way to turn another energy into divine energy. For example, your ki into regular magical energy and then the regular magical energy into divine energy. If we can use this ability of yours to make our own divine energy, this place will no longer be able to keep us chained to this decaying eye.”

Kazuki was starting to get a bad feeling and he cautiously took a step back.

Stez shook his head.

“I know what you’re thinking and you are half correct. I would like to peer into your soul. This would be a severe breach of privacy but you must understand that this place has been a prison for all of us. We have all become desperate to some degree.”

Kazuki played it up as if he were terrified. He made his heartbeat accelerate and drained some of the blood from his face, making it appear pale.

“You have to do this?”

Stez nodded.

“It was mentioned earlier, but this is a place where everyone must contribute. If you say no, I will be forced to send you to the surface, where you will most certainly not get a better deal from the worms. Up here though, I promise you now, even if the information is not useful, I will allow you to stay at Oasis seven and will protect you from the others. Jentson, this is the best deal you are ever going to get in this dreary place. What say you?”

Kazuki swallowed hard before asking.

“This deal is tempting, but it leaves no room for me, or rather, no choice. If it’s to be this way, could I at least benefit more?”

Stez tilted his head.

“Survival isn’t enough? What is it exactly that you want?”

Kazuki smiled inwardly.

“Information, as much of it as I want.”

Stez smiled softly.

“That is all. Fine. With this, we have a deal.”

Stez took a small step forward and Kazuki smiled before stepping forward to meet him. Stez raised a brow seeing this change in attitude.

“Why does it feel like I am the one losing in this situation?”

Kazuki chuckled lightly.

“I don’t know what you mean.”

Stez shook his head and extended his aura.

“Don’t worry, I will only look at the things pertaining to your ki energy as well as the talismans. Anything else will remain your secret, I promise.”

Kazuki wanted to roll his eyes. If he were a regular person, he would have no idea what a Demigod looked at and what they didn’t. Thanks to his soul reading ability, he could tell precisely what someone was taking a look at inside of his soul. This did not mean he could prevent them from looking here or there, just that he was aware of their gaze.

Kazuki felt Stez’s aura diving into his soul world. Instantly he peered into Kazuki’s soul or rather the false one he created. The fake soul was created using part of his own aura along with his soul reading ability. He used the memories and experiences he got from the real Jentson from a random Realm and forged a few others. In this way, everything that Stez saw was things from a real person and things Kazuki came up with.

Kazuki was nervous at first but a mere second later Stez was done. He nodded toward Kazuki.

“Fascinating. To think there were beings that lived like this. I will take my time to process this information.”

Stez tossed a small crystal to Kazuki and with a thought, his aura sent Kazuki out of the room. With that, the door shut and Kazuki was left wondering what to do. Looking at the crystal in his hand, he curiously sent a bit of his aura into it and found that it was a map of the entire tower. Inside this map, there was a single room that blinked with light.

(I guess this means I now have a room.)
