Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 3
As Lin continued to move them through the empty void toward a small Lower Realm in the distance, Kazuki sat there in absolute silence. He still couldn’t understand but reality would not let him go and he was forced to confront the truth.
(I am weak.)
Lin shook his head.
(No son, you are not weak, rather the difference between a God and someone at the 7th stage is like the distance between the sky and the ground. No, even more than that. With your current power, you have a real chance of taking me or Alutra on. If it came down to it, we could beat you but it would require our Divine Soul weapons. You are strong, incredibly so but A demigod has never in the history of all existence ever been able to overcome a God. It is something that just isn’t possible. In the eyes of a God, you are an ant. In the eyes of a God, Demigods are also nothing more than ants. One ant is simply a little bigger than the other in their eye but in the end, an ant is still an ant and poses no threat. This is why I told you before, seeking revenge was an impossibility. To go against other Demigods is one thing but to face actual Gods, is entirely different.)
Kazuki sank in silence once again before something came to mind.
(Uncle. I thought Gods would never destroy a Lower Realm. Wasn’t one of their main reasons to not do so, is to protect their reputation?)
Lin sighed inwardly before nodding.
(What you say is correct. No normal God would ever destroy a Lower Realm. For one it does affect their reputation. It makes them look petty and fragile. Another reason it’s looked down upon is cause many Gods tend to hide secrets within Lower Realms. Secrets they never wish to be known to others. Secrets that may directly impact their power. Because of this, Gods tend to get angry and corner other Gods that would dare destroy Lower Realms. Yet even knowing all of this Sephra still did it. She destroyed thousands of Lower Realms. No doubt she’s stepped on some toes doing this but the problem is she did it anyway. This leads me to believe something troubling.)
Kazuki and Alutra were both curious as to what this could be.
(Brother, if she did this, doesn’t it mean she isn’t afraid of the consequences?)
Lin nodded.
(I have two guesses but both are troublesome if true. The first is she was allowed to do it by father. After all, she is still under his roof and is his prisoner. Father may have cut us off but he would not just let Sephra kill us. Not because he cares about us but because this would make him look weak. If a prisoner of his, under his nose actually killed not one but two of his children and one of his grandchildren, if that happened without his notice, he would never be able to hold his head up ever again. This is something that Orberus would never put up with, not again.)
(Brother, you think Father would actually give permission? Do you think he would actually allow this?)
(I can’t say for sure but there’s no way he would not be aware of it. Either he allowed it or the second guess is Sephra is no longer father’s prisoner but instead has been turned over back to her family. This doesn’t let Orberus completely off the hook though, unless, something has happened to Father. If it affects his reputation he wouldn’t just let it happen but if he is no longer alive…)
Alutra’s eyes went wide.
(That isn’t possible. Father is many things, one of those things being invincible. He has never lost. There is no way he’s dead. Brother, you are mistaken.)
Lin himself began to wonder. He also wondered if his father actually died, he felt it was impossible as well.
(Nothing’s impossible. There is no such thing as invincible.)
Kazuki’s voice rang out in their heads. One could feel a chill from his icy tone. Standing up, Kazuki began to pace back and forth in thought. Step by step he wandered inside of the barrier. He thought about the devouring technique he had passed onto Orberus and many scenarios began to play out.
(It’s possible he executed the technique wrong when he created it inside of himself. Maybe he accidentally made a gate and a Vazul possessed him. No, that man is no fool. He wouldn’t make such a mistake. Instead of weakening, he would have grown stronger and stronger during all of this time. How strong though is the question. He must have reached a point where he no longer feared the opposition. In that case, he would no longer need to hold Sephra as a hostage but then why would she attack knowing Orberus would have the power to take her and her family out. Could she have something that makes Orberus hesitate, even with his power? I don’t know, I need to find out. I need to seek Orberus out and ask him personally. Uncle, you and Alutra can return to the Higher Realm, take me with you so I can ask Orberus.)
Lin and Alutra both went quiet.
(Uncle?)
This was the last thing Lin wanted.
(You, I cannot let you go up there.)
Kazuki stopped pacing.
(Why? Sephra was let loose upon my family like a ravaging dog. I need to know why he allowed her to kill them. I need to look the bastard in the eye
(Stop. What good will any of this do? If you go seek Father out, you will only be going down a path of hatred once more. The cycle will continue and will go on forever. Son, please just stop.)
Kazuki could feel his blood rushing through his body as he snapped.
(STOP! WHY WOULD I STOP! HOW COULD I STOP!? EVERY TIME I TRY TO PUT THIS BEHIND ME EVERY TIME I TRY TO JUST LIVE MY LIFE SHE’S THERE! SHE WILL NEVER STOP HUNTING ME SO WHAT SHOULD I JUST GIVE UP AND DIE!? THIS WON’T END, IT WON’T BE OVER UNTIL ITS OVER! UNTIL ONE OF US IS DEAD!)
(You’re wrong. Things are different this time. Just think about it logically. After that attack, surely she thinks you and the rest of us are dead. An attack like that, we shouldn’t have survived but Alutra, Arc, and I combined our powers at the last second. Her blast only accounted for me and Alutra and didn’t include Arc. Because of Arc, at least 30% of her power was scattered away from us. Not only that but just before she blew everything up I sensed your storage ring activating again. She took Fera’s corpse with her. Without Fera’s body and with the black compass completely obliterated, there is no way she can find or trace us. As far as she knows, you, me, and Alutra are no more. We are dead in her mind, we no longer need to run, we no longer need to look over our shoulder. I know it’s hard to just move on and I’m sorry to be even saying this right now but after all this time, you can live in peace.)
Kazuki looked down at Arc for a moment and Arc simply buzzed with static. Kazuki didn’t know about Arc helping to save them. He knew Arc had expended some of its energy earlier and Kazuki felt it was lower than it should have been but he was too caught up in his own head to think clearly. Now he knew why. Arc used up most of its power to save what could be saved.
Even after that, even if he really could live in peace, what point would there be without Nunully and Asuna and his child. He felt his existence would not be worth it. All this led to his anger boiling over.
(I can’t stop. Not now, not after everything that’s happened. Even if I’m not a God or a Demigod, I will be! I will gain power and cut down anyone who gets in my way. I will become a God and I will destroy Sephra once and for all.)
Lin couldn’t hear any more of this and asked Alutra for some help.
(Alutra please convince Kazuki. You have Kosaru to look after as well, we can’t endanger anyone else. We have to stick together and stay away forever.)
Alutra looked at Kazuki and could only see hatred in his eyes. Looking at her brother, she felt Lin was weak.
(Brother you are wrong. Sephra killed Big Brother. I tried to bury it deep within and I grieved and put it away. Being kicked out of the Higher Realm, and having my powers restricted to the Demigod level, I thought my life would be nothing but misery. I finally found someone, someone I could love and who loved me back unconditionally and I was happy. I had Detra, and little Kosaru but once again Sephra took someone away from me. Lin, how can you be so spineless? How can you be so weak? Kazuki, I will go with you, we will have our revenge.)
