Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 61
“Before that though, give me a moment.”
Marty was aching to fly and test her glider, but Kazuki had to take care of something first. Suddenly Kazuki’s bones began to change shape, and his appearance went from a young, handsome man to a much older gentlemen. His height shrank a good deal, and wrinkled skin replaced what was once smooth. Kazuki had returned to the appearance of Jentson the old man from a random Lower Realm.
“Why are ya using that face again? Not that I mind. Between the youthful Jentson and this older, more distinguished fellow, I like both looks very much, hehe.”
Kazuki shook his head.
“I trust you more now, but I know no one in this place. I’d like to not be discovered, no matter how low the chances are. Just continue treating me the same as before. Will you do that for me?”
Marty punched Kazuki in the arm with a smile.
“Old young, sure whatever. Now can we please fly!!!?”
Kazuki chuckled before nodding.
The core inside of the glider ate away at the surrounding energy, and the glider roared as the two took flight. The world around Kazuki blurred slightly, but with his senses, it was still possible to make out his surroundings.
As the wind raced past his face, a thrill of excitement rushed up his spine. This was a speed he had never experienced before in his entire life. It caused his blood to rush, and his heart pounded in his chest. As they crossed the seemingly never-ending landscape, Marty pushed her glider to the limits. She spun and spiraled, dove and rose, and did tricks as she flew. The was a feeling of joy he hadn’t felt in a while, and Kazuki couldn’t help but smile as he felt a weight begin to ease off his shoulders.
Marty as well had her goggles on and was smiling from ear to ear.
“Hang on, I’m gonna see if I can push it further!”
Kazuki instinctively gripped the handrail even tighter as Marty sent some of her divine energy into the glider. Add the energy it was already receiving from the outside world, and the glider roared even louder, and they went even faster.
After everything Kazuki had been through lately, this was the first time his dark thoughts did not crush him. He felt lighter, and he couldn’t help but laugh like a kid. This fun though, would not last.
Barely a few minutes into their travel, Arc called out.
(Kazuki, I can sense some Origin energy nearby.)
Kazuki looked around curiously.
(Which way?)
(Northeast. Now that we are off that last suppressive world, I can stretch my senses much further. It’s 33 million miles away from us.)
(Um, which way?)
(As I said northeast.)
(No, I mean I don’t know north from south in this place; you have to be a little more specific than northeast.)
(And what do you propose exactly, I point with my nonexistent finger?)
(You are exhausting; just tell me left or right and we’ll go from there.)
Arc relayed the directions to both of them, and Marty turned and headed northeast.
“Just so you two are aware, there are several beings at that location, so be cautious.”
Marty and Kazuki exchanged a look.
“Arc, are these beings good or bad?”
“Woman I have many powers, but seeing if someone is a hero or a villain is something impossible unless I am looking directly into their soul. From this distance, I cannot do this and even if I could, they would surely be aware of some unknown peering into the depths of their soul and I don’t need to tell you why that would be inconvenient.”
Marty nodded in embarrassment.
“Ok, so what can you tell us besides there’s a group of people.”
“A battle, or rather a slaughter. One group is slaying the other with little resistance. 50 beings, one demigod, 49 mortals 45 of them are at the seventh stage; the rest are irrelevant.”
Kazuki turned to Marty.
“If we need to fight, do you think you can take the demigod? if not, we can simply flee.”
Marty summoned her divine soul weapon. While they were flying, she twirled it in the air for a moment before swinging her sword a few times.
“I may love my research, but have ya already forgotten the hell I lived through? A simple demigod, leave it to me.”
“Right, not only that, but you’ve also regained a good amount of your power.”
“Besides, this is for Arc. We would have never left that place without Arc’s power. I would like to repay ya even if it’s just a little bit.”
Arc said nothing to this.
“Arc said thanks for the help.”
Kazuki took it upon himself to say this, and Arc was annoyed.
“Woman, do not listen to this boy. I never thanked anything. If you wish to go to the location I mentioned, that is of your own will and not something I
“Dam,n can you just stop for one minute!? We can’t do everything by ourselves all the time. You taught me that. So when someone wants to help, just accept it and move on.”
Arc went quiet before speaking.
“I will accept your help woman.”
No thanks, but Kazuki wasn’t going to push the stubborn bastard anymore than that. As far as he was concerned, this was enough progress for one day.
Marty smiled before continuing on.
After a short moment, they arrived a few thousand miles away. This distance was something they could both cover in an instant. Marty put the glider away, and the two looked at the situation at hand.
A Vajra ship the size of a small hill was being attacked by several assailants. They were fighting some people on the deck of the ship. Floating above the ship was a single man.
The moment they arrived several others took a look but none of them really cared besides the demigod.
“Ignore the onlookers and continue the assault. Slay any who gets in the way and get the kid.”
A thin man with a short brown beard stood above the scene. He had a short tail and snake-like eyes. He turned toward Kazuki and Marty, and a long black spear appeared in his hands.
“Travelling on foot like this, you are unworthy of being robbed. There’s no way you have anything of importance, so mind your business and keep it moving or you’ll be left like those below me.”
As he said this, a man atop the deck was torn apart by another. Several screams echoed out and an old man standing in front of a door and fighting called out to them.
“You there, please help us! My Master is in danger, and he’ll gladly reward you greatly!”
Kazuki and Marty just stood by.
“Arc, where is the Origin energy?”
Arc’s senses extended outward and stretched into the Vajra ship.
“It’s inside the ship. A small treasure of some sort is containing it. I cannot break into the ship as it has a powerful barrier placed on it.”
“A barrier you can’t penetrate.”
“With my current power, no, but once I have absorbed enough origin energy, such protection will be nothing to me. For now though, no, I cannot get in.”
“Marty, what do you think?”
Marty eyed the demigod.
“I’m confident I can take him. The only thing I’m worried about is whose ship that belongs to. I told ya we shouldn’t mess around with anyone who owns such a ship because they could be a big shot. If we make a wrong move, we could be the ones in trouble.”
The man on the deck who got no reaction nor response from Kazuki or Marty became desperate and called out once more.
“Please, anything you want. At least save my master; that’s all I ask; no, I beg!”
As he said this, the demigod was starting to become annoyed.
“A fellow demigod and a weak mortal man, why are you still in my presence? Leave now before I change my mind and grind you both to dust.”
Marty and Kazuki took a step closer, and the man’s eyes grew wide in anger.
“Fine! You think my threats are a mere bluff, then suffer my spear.”
The man didn’t hesitate to throw his spear with all of his might. In this spear, the two could sense powerful energy. A black gas seeped out and spread in every direction, and the sky darkened almost instantly. The air was like acid, and the clothes on both Marty and Kazuki began to melt. With a thought, Marty surrounded herself with her own energy, and the melting black air affected her no more.
Kazuki on the other hand didn’t care. This black gas melted his clothes and began to melt his skin, but his skin regenerated faster than the black gas could melt him. The demigod watched this in confusion. He could clearly feel that Kazuki was but a mere mortal, yet he was enduring his power with seemingly little effort.
“Let’s do this.”
After Marty said that, Kazuki gave a simple nod before taking a step forward. His speed was faster than a demigod. The thin man saw Kazuki one second, and the very next Kazuki had vanished from sight and reappeared on the deck of the ship. The thin man snapped his head around to see Kazuki take another step only to vanish once more. The very next instant Kazuki appeared before one of the bandits, his hand was already through the man’s chest and out of his back. In his hand, Kazuki held the man’s heart.
“One down.”
The men on the deck were shocked by this sight.
“KILL HIM!”
The demigod roared out and was about to step in himself when he felt all of the hair on the back of his neck suddenly stand at once. He turned around just in time to see a sword coming down from above.
