Return of the Fallen Volume 11 Chapter 97
(Arc, who is the bastard that keeps looking at me as if they wish to kill me?)
Now that Kazuki had returned to the shop and activated the shop’s barrier, he could breathe a sigh of relief. This only lasted for a moment when Arc answered with uncertainty.
(I can’t say. With my current power, you know a God is too much for me. Also, I don’t necessarily think this person wishes for your death, after all, what would stop them from taking you out if they really wanted to?)
(Right the Laws seem to be in place for everyone except Gods. I was foolish to think they would be held accountable for anything.)
(That’s not entirely true. Their consequences are just different. A God cannot fear anything below it but another God, that is when they have to be careful. So long as they do not offend another God more powerful than they or a group of Gods stronger than them, they have little to fear in this city at least. other cities, I don’t know how they work so I can not comment on them. As for this observer, there was something off about them.)
(What are you talking about?)
(I can’t say for sure but it felt as if they had no soul. Strange.)
Kazuki and Arc were still going back and forth about this hidden watcher when Chaka, Bersik, and Simmons all heard them enter the shop and rushed over. Samuel was still crying and the sound of this caused the three servants to panic. When they saw Samuel crying his heart out in Marty’s embrace they all shared a similar thought.
(They lost all of the money.)
Chaka was the first to rush over.
“Young Master!”
Bersik followed up, his short tail tucked between his legs. He tried to comfort Samuel over the loss of money.
“Young Master, there’s no need to worry. We can make everything back. Even if you have to sell the three of us, your business will surely recover in time.”
Simmons glared at Kazuki and pointed at him before throwing out random ass accusations.
“It’s his fault for sure. Jentson got too cocky and lost all of Young Master’s money. I knew we shouldn’t have trusted him from the start. We must be rid of him before he sinks s further into the river of no return.”
Simmons was going on and on and Kazuki was beyond tired of his mouth. At the same time, killing him would be too much under the circumstances. The last thing Samuel needed was more death. Instead, Kazuki activated the badge he got from the arena and a pile of divine crystals poured out continuously like a waterfall. All of this was directed right on top of Simmons. This much weight would be nothing to him but Kazuki also added some of his aura, causing Simmons to be crushed and buried beneath the divine crystals.
Immediately, Chaka and Bersik had to jump back and out of the way to avoid this large pile, and they were at a loss for words. The amount in front of them, with a quick calculation, it was ten times what was here before.
Bersik’s tail began to wag in delight as he sputtered.
“Three million, no there’s slightly more. You all made ten times what you had. It’s barely been two hours since you left the shop. This is…incredible.”
Chaka as well was holding handfuls and handfuls in all four of her arms. She was practically drooling over the crystals.
“Young Master you did it! you did it! With this amount, we can make a payment toward the Faction or we could start expanding the business here and then we can…
Chaka’s words trailed off as she noticed something.
“Young Master. I don’t understand. This should be a good thing, no? But why are you crying?”
Bersik as well didn’t understand. he then turned to Kazuki and asked.
“What happened? Young Master seems devastated, he shouldn’t be like this after such a victory. Tell me please.”
Before he could explain, Samuel left Marty’s embrace. He put on a brave face and tried to speak but the words would not come out and he began to cry once more. Kazuki stepped in and just told them.
“Terinus…He was ambushed and killed.”
Chaka and Bersik were left wide-eyed and shocked. Simmons on the other hand, while still buried beneath the divine crystals a smile stretched across his face.
(Good riddance.)
Samuel this time shouted.
“NO! I refuse to believe it. Father was strong, strong, and wise. Even if it is chaotic space, surely he found a way to survive. Without his body or divine weapon, I won’t believe it no matter what!…No matter…what.”
Once again he broke down in tears. Chaka immediately ran over and hugged him in her arms, taking care not to offend him and offer comfort.
“Young Master…I’m so sorry.”
Samuel cried for a while and Chaka took him upstairs to his room so he could rest.
—————————————————————————-
A while later, Chaka returned from upstairs. Kazuki and Marty were discussing their future plans while Bersik was cleaning and tidying things up here and there. Simmons had gone to his own room a while ago and had not come out.
Kazuki already knew the man would be gloating with glee over the passing of the Cortail patriarch. For him who was basically thrown away but Terinus and received zero help for his family, Terinus death was something to celebrate.
“So how’s the boy?”
Marty’s question was met with a saddened expression from Chaka.
“He just fell asleep but it’s clear he’s devastated. His father meant the world to him. He cherished him and no one was more important. He won’t be fine for a while I think.”
Marty shook her head.
“What terrible timing. The boy was already under so much pressure, enemies coming from every corner, surrounding him and he still managed to push through, now there’s another weight left on his small shoulders. Some people are destined to suffer. I just wish he didn’t have to carry all of this alone.”
Chaka shook her head.
“Young Master is not alone. He has me!”
Bersik gripped the broom in his hand tightly before standing next to Chaka.
“And he has me as well. I will never abandon Young Master and will always help support him.”
Chaka pointed at Kazuki and Marty.
“Young Master also has the two of you, right? Even if it’s just business for you two, you’ll keep your word, won’t you? You’ll protect Young Master, and help him until he’s strong enough to stand on his own?”
Kazuki shook his head.
“Not until he’s strong enough to stand on his own.”
Chaka and Bersik heard this and were shocked.
“But but but, You promised Young Master.”
“Stop, you didn’t let me finish. I’ll protect him until he has the support to stand together with his allies. That’s what the faction is for. We will gather powerful allies that will help him.”
Chaka and Bersik felt a bit of relief from this but they were still worried. By his own words, Kazuki was telling them that he would only be staying for a certain amount of time. They did not want this but Kazuki didn’t care. He still had his own goals, he still had things he needed to do.
“Right now, Samuel is broken but you two can’t let him deteriorate any further. Even if it’s painful, even if it’s sad and lonely, you must help to push him forward. Today is the last day he is allowed to grieve.”
Chaka immediately protested this.
“But Youg Master can’t keep going right after losing his father. He must be allowed to grieve otherwise…”
Chaka didn’t know what to say after that. She just felt that Samuel needed to grieve properly and how unfair it would be to push a boy who just lost his only parent.
“There is no otherwise. Unfortunately, we do not have the luxury of otherwise. Nothing has changed. The worst has happened. Adigus still lives and Terinus is dead. Adigus will come for this part of the business. Not just here but he will most likely target Samuel’s other brothers and take their businesses as well. For now, Adigus is still injured so that buys us a small bit of time. Outside of that though, there is no time to waddle in self-pity. I will not allow it. It is not just his life at stake but mine and Marty’s and you lot as well. We must not fall behind the enemy. Thankfully we got a small advantage during this time around.”
Chaka and Bersik did not know what this so-called advantage is and the two both grew interested. They still felt sorry for their Young Master but Kazuki’s words had snapped them back to reality. This was not just some petty squabble that could be decided and settled in one move. Things were about to accelerate.
