Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 110
A small group of three landed hard on the ground with dull thuds.
All three were covered in blood and one was even missing a limb. The powers they were so proud of had been overwhelmed so easily that their pride was squashed. All three looked disheveled and pale as they scanned their surroundings with fearful expressions. A woman among them wore gold and black armor. Fine cracks lined her armor and a large hole was opened near the collarbone of her armor.
A nasty deep wound was only now sealing itself shut.
She cursed at the world and the one who caused her grave injuries.
“DAMN YOU GARDIUS! DAMN THIS WORLD AND EVERYTHING IN IT!”
After getting this off her chest she collapsed on all fours and gasped heavily for air. She was completely exhausted in every way shape and form. Sweat and blood poured down her face with a steady and slow drip.
Her two companions were no better off. In fact, they were way worse.
One had half of his face missing and three large holes in his back and chest. Part of his jaw was hanging loosely by a few threads of tender meat as he stared at the woman in disbelief.
He could not currently speak with his mouth for obvious reasons but his mind was fine. Still, even with his mind intact, he did not wish to waste any energy communicating through the mind. He wished to curse as well but he just couldn’t muster nor waste what little energy he had.
His mouth slowly began to regenerate. All he could do was sit on his exhausted ass with a mix of fury, fear, and humiliation.
Everything he wished to say, the man next to him said.
This man was bulky and had a stature of solid muscle. He looked like he could crush a mountain with his two little fingers. Right now though he was fuming. He held his wrist tightly as his hand at the end was missing. Only a stump remained and the blood had only now stopped flowing out like a fountain.
“The fuck was that. Gardius can still use his Artifact. Why did no one mention this? Nine of us. Fucking nine of us and not one noticed he could still use that ring of his. Damn, the boat wielder left before us all. That tall bitch knew for sure and she said nothing. When I find her, I’ll rip her spine from her body and beat her with it.”
The woman in broken armor laughed in his face.
“Heh, you show how stupid you are with those petty threats. You’ll kill Stasha…For what exactly. You saw Gardius, it’s obvious he could still use his ring we were just so blinded by greed we failed to take note of something so obvious. If we really thought about it, Gardius had sealed this world. The moment we realized we could not use our powers in full, we should have been suspicious of him. The fact that the world was sealed by him, how else could he do that if his ring was already under restrictions? Now you want to blame that weak girl. Wow, what a big strong man you are Cainen.”
Sarcasm spilled from this woman’s tongue like bitter wine. It lacked all sweetness and was pungent to the ears.
The man shot to his feet and postured but the woman was unafraid. Even while she was still catching her breath on the ground, she simply glared up at the large man in defiance.
“Damn you Brella. You think I will lay off just because of a few words? That swine knew and she left us. Even if we were greedy, we cannot be blamed. Gardius looked wounded. Never in all my dreams would I imagine a being like Gardius would fake an injury. Has he ever been someone to act? Something like that, no one could have seen it coming. I would have bet all my powers beforehand that Gardius would never do something so lowly. He would literally see it as something below him and humiliating but there he was pretending to be weak. Anyone else in our position would have taken that opportunity to hunt him down and take his life but damn, he still killed almost all of us and it was us who fled like baby mice in the end.”
Brella finally caught her breath and slowly stood up. Her armor began to repair itself under her power and she looked at Cainen as if he were stupid.
“That’s my point, you oaf. Gardius has always outclassed us but combined we should have been able to take him. If my powers were unrestricted at the very least I should have been able to hold him off for a while. He is someone already above us. Even if Stasha knew something was off, we cannot blame her for not warning us. Her Vajra ship is extremely special. It’s an Artifact that can control space and time to a certain extent. With it, she is incredibly powerful and can be considered the fastest Supreme God amongst us. Without it though, one would barely even consider her strength compared to a regular God. If she warned us ahead of time, she would be first on Gardius’s list. Instead of being angry at a weakling, aim that fury at Gardius.”
Cainen did not like her insults but seeing her armor repair, he knew getting past it and breaking her was basically an impossibility now. He gnashed his teeth as he spoke.
“She shouldn’t have come in the first place then. A weak God like her, shouldn’t even be considered a Supreme God. Her name lowers all of our reputations and we have an image to uphold. As for Gardius, how am I to aim my anger at someone who is at full strength while we are all basically crippled in this place. At this rate, nothing will stand in his way. It’s only a matter of time before he claims the prize and wielding the Black gates treasure, he will take the Three Higher Realsm and everything below them.”
“Are you forgetting the fact that we would not have been able to enter this place in the first place without Stasha’s ship? For now, though we have to forget about pointless things and come together. Things are not yet over. We have not lost yet. Gardius may have all of his powers because of his ring but he does not have the treasure. We have to claim it before him. One of us will get it first and kill Gardisu and his disgusting Crescent moon knight faction once and for all.”
Cainen and the other expert looked at one another before the two shared a belly full of laughter. The man who only now was regenerating his hand scowled at her.
“Let’s say we can actually manage to get the Artifact first who among us will own it and even if we get it, who’s to say we can actually wield it? In the end, we’ll just end up tearing each other apart or Gardius will do it before we ever get the chance. We’re better off waiting for Gardius to claim the treasure and opening this place up. The moment he unseals this world, we’d better flee as far and as fast s we can before he decides to turn that weapon on us all.”
Cainene and Brella looked at this supposed expert and could only see him as cowardly. Still, they wanted him on their side so neither called him out on this cowardness. Instead, Brella just reminded her ally just exactly who Gardius was.
“Jinkin, have you forgotten who Gardius is? My Blood faction and his moon knight faction have been feuding for eons. I know him very well. He is not a being who will show mercy. He never has and there’s absolutely no way he’ll start after obtaining the Artifact. Once he gets his hands on the treasure, why would he open the seal on this world? No, you and I, Canene, and many others have already turned their blades on him. We are enemies through and through. He will keep this planet sealed and will come to hunt us down one by one until his enemies are no more. There is no such thing as escaping, not unless Gardius is dead. It is already too late. It is us or him.”
Jinkin swallowed hard. Of course, he knew this all already he just wasn’t thinking clearly. Brella’s words were facts that he just did not wish to recognize but even if he didn’t, they were facts none the same. If they did not kill Gardius, he would kill them. Even if they gave up here and now and surrendered, it was already set in stone. They were his enemies to the very end.
Jinkin was fearful and could barely speak.
“So…what do we do?”
