Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 135

Death took this man.

The chief watched the man pierce his own heart and die with tears in his eyes. The chief was both shocked and saddened but he did not try to stop the man.

After both his wife and child had died, what man would wish to continue living on in a world without them?

The chief slowly walked over and placed a hand over the man’s open eyes and closed.

The old chief began to pray for this man and his family.

“To the almighty above, to the one true ruler. Please open your arms to this poor man and welcome him into your kingdom so that he may reunite with his beloved wife and child. Take him into your embrace and allow him eternal peace. This I pray, amen.”

The chief slowly stood up, his knees weary from age. He turned and prepared to call some folks over to help bury the man next to his loved ones.

However, as soon as he turned away, he felt something. A feeling he could not describe overtook him as a sudden burst of light lit up the sky. The force of this light was such that it turned him around and knocked him flat onto his ass.

That’s when he saw it.

A light so bright and pure it could bathe the world with this gentle golden light.

The chief was shocked to see this light was coming from the recently deceased man before him. He did not know if this was a miracle or a curse as he began to pray even more in fear.

The more he prayed the more common sense was overturned.

The dead man, who lay silently next to his beloved family’s graves, suddenly began to rise to his feet. No more than that, he began to float. The sword lodged deep into his chest by his own hand shattered to dust and blew away with a gust of wind. The wounds upon his body vanished without a trace and his eyes opened with a glowing light.

“By the Gods above! Is this really a miracle!?”

The chief wondered if he had truly gone insane or if he was a witness to a grand revelation. Before he could even dare question the phenomenon in front of him, the pillar of light connected to the man, and the sky, disappeared along with the man himself.

The chief had no explanation except for GOD.

He began to weep and found his faith solid unlike any other material known to man. He had witnessed God’s power and there would be nothing to convince him otherwise.

The light had left this world and so to did this man.

—————————————————————————-

Opening his eyes, he found himself in an unfamiliar place. He was surrounded by an unknown white space that seemed to go on in every direction forever.

Looking around he was both shocked and confused.

Not only that, he felt something flowing inside of him. As soon as he sensed this flowing power within him, his mind opened, and he awoke.

(I remember…)

A power swelled within him as memories reconnected with him and were reestablished one after another. The memories and experiences were nearly infinite yet they came to him instantly. The man was no man at all, but rather something above mankind, above…all

The man opened his hand and a power formed above his palm. Contained within this power was something that could destroy the stars or create worlds.

(No, my powers are not bound to simple worlds and stars. I can feel it. I am a being who stands above a

“So, you’ve returned to me.)

The man found there was another voice nearby. He did not know when nor how this voice appeared. It was as if it were always there. The moment it appeared though a new memory was unlocked.

(This voice, this presence, you…it is not I who stands above all but you.)

The voice chuckled before replying back.

(Yes.”

The voice suddenly transformed and a body formed or rather the outline of a body, a shapeless body. This outline had no face and was basically a bright light with dancing shadows around it. One moment it looked like a human figure, the next it looked like a dragon. Its shape changed constantly… infinitely.

The man went from shock to rage as he remembered everything.

(You…you did this. Because of you, they died, because of you I couldn’t save them! I’LL KILL YOU!)

The man punched with all of his power. Every element fused together and became one at this moment. Time came to a standstill and the laws of the universe bent to this man’s will. The power to destroy a Higher Realm came down upon the ever-shifting shapeless light and shadow.

The shapeless figure outstretched a single arm and caught the man’s fist. All of the power contained within this man suddenly vanished as if it were never there.

The shapeless being laughed.

“This again. After countless iterations, you still get so upset. If I didn’t already know this would happen, I may have been surprised but in the end, even if that occurred, what use is it to wield my own power against me.)

The man felt all the power he just had, every ounce of it disappear from him. He felt indescribable anguish and rage. He understood what had happened, after all, just like the voice said, this has happened countless times. The memories that awoke inside of him showed him the truth. He had lived different lives in different worlds and at different times.

Each one was a life that was his or hers. He had been men and women. From birth to death, he had lived and lived and lived. Through these lives, he had witnessed tragedies and suffered endlessly. At the same time, he had been loved and given love. He had families, brothers, sisters, children spouses. Betrayal, hatred, tenderness, freedom, sadness, atonement, redemption. His journeys had him as humans or monsters, beasts, and insects. He had been every type of creature at one point or another but the one he was the most was human.

Tears spilled from his eyes like a river as he realized why he had lived these lives.

(Everything I’ve been, everyone I knew, every interaction, everything good and everything bad, all of it was for your entertainment.)

(Yes.”

The man already knew this but after countless lifetimes, every time he died, he returned to this place and met this almighty being. Searching through his memories, after all of these cycles, he did not know why.

(Why, why me, why not yourself, why not anybody else?)

*Heh*

“Is it really so hard to figure out?)

The shapeless being held up an arm that transformed into a claw and then a wing. With a wave of this wing, it changed back into a hand and with it, the scenery completely changed.

A world appeared beneath them and the two could see everything happening in this world. The people coming and going, the waves of the ocean pushing and pulling. Beatss hunting, the wind blowing, everything.

(Everything that happens in this world, I am completely aware of. Beyond that, I know exactly what will happen before it happens. That man there, he will trip and that child will laugh, that tree will fall, and that animal will die.”

As soon as the shapeless being said this, everything played out exactly as it was foretold.

The scene changed again and now they were floating in the depths of space. The shapeless being outstretched a hand and the stars teleported in front of him, with a thought he destroyed them all, along with the entire universe itself. Once more there was simply a white space.

“The power to destroy and the power to create. I control all. I am infinite and all-knowing.)

With a thought, the Univers and the Higher Realm reappeared exactly as it was before as if nothing even occurred. The world they were just at reappeared and the people down below were moving about their day, completely unaware that anything took place at all.

(Having the power to do anything at any time and place and know all…It is utterly and terribly boring. You were originally a part of me. I allowed you a portion of my own power but in the end, it is still my power. I send you to these worlds with this power and your memories sealed and place you in a random being’s body. Usually whatever catches my interest. When you are in this world I seal my all-knowing gift so that I cannot know what the future holds. I then watch you. I watch you grow, I watch you eat, sleep, anything and everything until you die. This is already entertaining but even more so once you die. For when you die, your memories and powers are unlocked and you automatically return to me.”

The shapeless being then extended a hand and touched the man’s forehead. A flow of memories from the man’s recent life entered the shapeless being.

The shapeless being took on a human form that looked exactly the same as the man’s. For a split second, the man could no longer feel any power from the shapeless being.

As the memories finished flowing into the shapeless being, the being shuddered in pure bliss and delight.

After this, the shapeless being returned to its continuously changing form, and the man could feel an infinite amount of power coming from it.

“It’s one thing to watch you, it’s another to experience everything you have while in a form similar to your own. I use a body that can handle my power. I let you live countless lives so that for a brief moment when you return to me, I can feel. In essence, I use you to satiate my boredom and entertainment.)
