Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 54

The second barrier shrank ever more and an idea came to mind.

(Arc I need you to take the walls.)

Kazuki could feel the aura of countless Gods folding all around him, squeezing him tightly and crushing his insides constantly. His movements were becoming more and more restricted as the barrier closed in around him.

(To take the walls is a simple matter. The problem though is getting close in time. First I’ll need to cut through the barrier and then I’ll need to come into contact with the wall.)

(In time…So you’re saying you can’t make the trip from here to the wall before this second barrier encloses on top of me.)

(Exactly. Without my Origin energy, moving is not such an easy task. It can be done but under the eye of the shadow and millions of Gods, I would be a target undoubtedly. To move so openly only invites disaster. I could still get to the wall but it would take at least 2 to three seconds. At that time this second barrier would already have destroyed you.)

With the barriers up, Kauzki could not tear open Chaotic space. Without that energy, it was almost impossible to kill any of these Gods. If he could not at the very least reduce the number of enemies, there was no way he would escape let alone counterattack the shadow.

Kazuki’s thoughts raced in his mind and he was quickly surrounded by a seemingly endless wave of Gods. He knew there was a way out of this but it was risky.

(I think I have a way but you three need to be ready.)

Kazuki still had a card or two to play. A tiny object raced across the surface and Kazuki stopped his struggle. In doing so the surrounding Gods pounced on him. A few grabbed him and held him in place while many more held him down with their power.

The shadow smiled greedily and teleported away from the wall. Entering one God’s body and exiting out of another, It reappeared directly in front of Kazuki.

“So you have decided fighting is pointless and decided to give in. Good. Do not be afraid. After I take control, it will be as if you never existed. There will be no pain, no yearning, and no fear. Swift and painless. In the end, you will be no more but rest easy. Through your body, I will use it to help me take all Realms big and small. In this way, no one will ever have to suffer the way I did.”

Kazuki had acted in a similar way back then. He had been a judge, jury, and executioner over a world at one point. Arc had called him out on such behavior but only now did he really see just how fucked up it was.

“Who are you to instill your will across the stars? By taking control over every person in all the Realms, you are simply filling the universe with copies of yourself. These people are no more than puppets. No thoughts no emotions and no individual will of their own. Yes, there will be no suffering of any kind by then but there will be nothing else either. No real joy or thrill, no excitement or love. By ruling everything, you are simply creating a universe full of nothing but coldness. A coldness, empty and void of anything real. Is that what you truly wish.”

The shadow flew forward slowly and leaned in. With a tone as dead as a frozen lake, he whispered into Kazuki’s ear.

“Yessss.”

The shadow’s eyes glowed with gold radiant light before he reached forward and grabbed Kazuki’s head with both of his hands.

Kazuki felt that same mind-soul energy sink into the depths of his soul world and rush toward both his core and his sou tree. Once more, Kazuki felt a numbness, and a flash of something seared in his mind. The image of two blurred figures came to mind. This time it was slightly clearer.

The image was still not identifiable but out of it, Kazuki felt a familiarity and knew now that the two figures were female. Kazuki’s soul world jolted as he felt a shock to his system. Codex and Sword had countered with their own mind-soul energy shaking Kazuki out of it.

With a thought, he controlled his own mind-soul energy. Along with the three artifacts, they all countered the shadow at the same time and forced him out of Kazuki’s Soul world in a single exchange.

Kazuki’s eyes suddenly snapped open and the shadow was shocked.

“You can resist my power!?”

“That and so much more.”

As soon as Kazuki said that, he gathered as much energy from his surroundings, and with it, he combined his aura with his ki and magic. He formed the death touch energy directly in his body before he unleashed it in one fell swoop.

The three energies similar to Chaotic energy caused a massive and volatile reaction in an instant.

*BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!*

As the death touch energy had no place to go but outward, Kazuki’s body exploded on the spot. His incredibly tough body that could withstand a God’s Divine Soul weapon became a dangerous bomb to the surrounding Gods holding onto him.

His flesh and bones became like shrapnel and the debris of his body penetrated nearby Gods forcing them back. The shadow was shocked witnessing this. Though this physical attack did not physically affect him it was still surprising nonetheless.

This shock was enough to give Kazuki a fraction of time as his enemy was distracted. Although Kazuki destroyed his own body, his soul was perfectly intact. With a thought, his soul sank into the Gauntlet along with Arc, Sword, and Codex.

The silver wings atop the Gauntlet fluttered and vibrated at a high frequency before flying forward faster than the speed of light.

In a split second, the Gauntlet had already arrived at the second barrier. Four individual severing sword forms roared out and cut at the barrier. With their power against the combined power of 10’s of thousands of Gods, they could only cut open a small hole in the barrier that was quickly closing and repairing itself. This though proved no challenge as the Gauntlet rushed through the hole with a few fractions of seconds to spare.

The Shadow was pissed. After its initial shock faded it felt extreme humiliation.

“YOU THINK I’LL LET YOU ESCAPE!”

The shadow drilled into one of the nearby God’s bodies before teleporting once again to the closest God near the city wall. To teleport from one place to another, it would be considered instantaneous from an outsider’s perspective, and in reality, this was infinitely close to the truth but even so, the Gauntlet moved just a bit quicker. Arriving at the wall, just a fraction faster, Arc’s power pierced the wall ad it instantly understood every inscription within.

It promptly made trillions upon trillions of changes within these connected inscriptions. Some were overwhelming while other changes were micro. In the end, Arc changed the walls in such a way that none in this universe could operate it beside it and Kazuki.

The moment the shadow arrived at the wall it already felt its connection to the city defenses had been forcefully stripped away and claimed by its enemy.

“NOOOOOOOOOOO!”

The shadow’s eyes grew brighter and all of the Gods turned and raced toward the wall. At the same time, they fired all of their most powerful magic at the Gauntlet in hopes of destroying it so the shadow could somehow take back control. Not knowing that the changes made it impossible for anyone else to ever use the wall again.

The power of millions of Gods racing forward was without a doubt a stupid play on the shadow’s part. Mainly because the shadow did not know or did not think anyone would be stupid enough to do what Kazuki ordered next.

“Lower the barriers.”

The moment Kazuki said this, the shadow felt a chill run throughout its dark body.

Arc wasted no time and lowered both of the barriers. Even if it didn’t do this, the barriers would eventually collapse since it was the Gods in the city that fueled it. Arc just sped up the process.

The barriers immediately wavered before they fell apart right there and then.

This is when disaster struck. Well, a disaster for the shadow and its puppets. The Gods had fired all of their most powerful magic at the Gauntlet. With no barrier in place protecting the city, Chaotic space tore open. It was not a small rift here or there but rather something similar to a large ravine opened up in the skies above Satruss city. The tear was so large and wide that it covered more than half of the city’s space.

This huge gaping trench suddenly pulled at everyone and everything with a force that could destroy trillions of Lower Realms on the spot.

At this moment, it was as if the end times were upon them.
