Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 55

A gash across the sky, no a river of void and chaos was ripped open over more than a third of the city. The cause of which was the power of 10’s of thousands of Gods firing all of their magic at once at the Gauntlet. In any other city, such a disaster could be prevented and there were countless failsafes. Satruss was different. Because the Gods were taken over and because there were none to supervise the city’s defenses, the Moment Arc took control of the city walls, he basically controlled everything in Satruss.

The barriers could easily handle several Gods throwing their power around within the city. The moment Arc turned the barriers off, there was no longer a defense mechanism to prevent the destructive force of countless Gods from tearing open Chaotic space.

The sky that had just been forcibly torn asunder, in the instant that this tear formed, Chaotic space began to devour anything and everything in its vicinity. The shadow had been completely shocked by this and could never have foreseen such a disastrous event would occur and had never even thought of how to handle this.

Because of this lack of foresight, the shadow was slow to act, this would be costly.

With a powerful suction force, that was already difficult for even Gods to escape from, it was only natural that millions were pulled in without a chance to escape. On top of that, none of these Gods have the instinct to survive nor automatic reflexes such as fight or flight. They were no more than puppets. Bodies to be thrown around and controlled by the whims of the dark shadow. Therefore, when the shadow failed to act immediately, even more Gods were pulled into the large river of torn open Chaotic space.

Simply put, these Gods had no chance.

Millions…tens of millions were dragged in almost instantly before the shadow finally came to its senses.

“NOOOOO!”

The shadow knew it was locked out of the city’s defenses. It had tried earlier to take the walls back but the entire layout of the inscriptions inside the wall had been completely rewritten. It had only known how to use the wall’s power because it had previously taken over a few Godsa that knew how and used their memories. Now that the trillions upon trillions of inscriptions had been changed by Arc, the shadow had no clue where to even begin to try and retake the walls.

Instead, it could only use what it knew.

Its golden eyes glowed in fury and the Gods in the city responded in kind.

All at once, hundreds of thousands of Vajra ships appeared from these Gods’ rings and they all dove onto their ships and flew away, escaping the pull range of Chaotic space.

While they flew away, Kazuki swiftly activated the spinning void at the base of his soul tree and he began to pull in tremendous amounts of Chaotic energy refueling his core. When all was said and done, Kazuki and the other Artifacts had broken through the second barrier, arrived at the wall, taken full control of it, rewritten the inscriptions within it, lowered the barriers, reformed his body, and regained several realms worth of energy. At the end of it all, taking count, well over 95% of the Gods in the city had been pulled into Chaotic space and vanished while the others fled.

All of this had taken place in less than three seconds of time.

Kazuki would have loved to devour these Gods and potentially grow his soul but now was not the time or rather the opportunity would have been slightly more difficult than its worth to take advantage of. Instead, his focus lay on the shadow.

The fleeing ships had simply left the range of the pull of Chaotic space but they did not leave the area entirely. The shadow as well was of course with them. They surrounded the area and waited for the tear to naturally close. Tears in Chaotic space all had an expiration. These tears would only last as long as there was energy to feed them, otherwise, they could only collapse and close.

The moment, this tear in Chaotic space ate all the energy in the surroundings it would close just as fast.

The shadow moved the Gods into a formation and made a net to make sure Kazuki did not escape. Its voice boomed as it shouted at Kazuki from hundreds of thousands of miles away.

“I see now. Your confidence did not only lie with your own capabilities but also with a few Artifacts in your possession. One took over the wall and the other, that Gauntlet on your arm, its speed is…illogical. It also prevented you from being pulled into Chaotic space. I thought I had my own tricks but damn, how deceptive. In one move you destroyed my army of Gods and now all I have are a few leftovers. Strangely this only irritates me. I was pissed but thinking about it, this is a grand prize fallen from the heavens above. Once I take control of you, I will have not only a powerful God as my right hand but also all of the Artifacts in your possession. Through you, I will be able to control all of them and my power will expand that much more. Now surrender and don’t try anything foolish.”

Kazuki shook his head.

“You still believe you are going to win this. Look around Shadow, the city is destroyed. All that’s left is the Stargate in the center and the walls, your army is pitiful and as you said my Gauntlets speed is quite illogical. It is not something you or the Gods you control will ever be able to catch now that I am not locked in a barrier. On the other hand, you can not flee from me. Even if I can’t physically touch you, I already know how to deal with you. It is you who should simply accept your fate and die.”

The shadow began to laugh.

“You think these Gods dying means I have nothing else in store for one such as you? Yes, tearing open space like that, I did not see coming but there are a few things I foresaw. One such thing was on the offshoot that you were actually more difficult to handle than initially thought.”

Kazuki did not understand what the shadow was talking about nor did he care.

“You really are shortsighted. You’re already dead and don’t know it.”

As Kazuki said this, he snapped his fingers and a light snow began to fall before a tiny horse appeared in his hand. It was the same toy golem he had given Lana. Just before the battle, he had sent it away and into the depths of the city with one mission.

The shadow was puzzled for but a moment until it saw the tiny toy carrying something on its back. Its golden eyes burned with fury as it roared in shock and rage.

“WHERE DID YOU GET THAT STONE!”

Attached to the back of the small horse was a Mindstone. Not just any Mind stone but in fact the shadows.

“Are you so shocked, really? You saw me fight Lana and her fake family. I destroyed all of their Mind stones during our brief exchange. Naturally, I would need to acquire yours as well. While you were cornering me like a bug, my little golem here was scouring the city in search of this prize.”

“Impossible. I should have felt its thoughts at the very least. Even if it’s rudimentary a Golem needs at least a fragment of a soul to operate it.”

“Normally you’d be right but this Golem of mine is anything but normal. It requires no soul fragments to move. Since it has no mind nor any thoughts, it went completely under your radar as it searched for this stone. Now tell me again who will be surrendering today.”

Kazuki though was not looking for any type of surrender and was just playing with words. He did not care for anything else but for the shadow to be eliminated. That’s why before the shadow could say anything else, Kazuki grabbed the Mind stone and gave it a slight squeeze.

Just before Kazuki broke the Mind stone though, something he did not predict happened. The Stargate nearby activated. A powerful pulse of energy created a beam of light that stretched into the sky and a rift was opened. Stepping out of the Stargate, millions of Gods appeared.

And it was at this exact time that Kazuki had squeezed the dull-looking rock and crushed it into a fine powder under the eyes of these new arrivals. They were just taking in the situation when Kazuki broke the Mind stone and in front of all of them directly after the Mind stone was crushed, the several Gods under the control of the shadow simply fell out of the skies lifelessly.
