Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 63

After traveling across the stars Kazuki arrived at the Operustia Starpath. Although this galaxy was the nearest it was still a difficult distance to cover. Not the length itself but rather the fact that in order to travel from one Starpath to the other, one would encounter Chaotic space and countless different Chaotic energies on the way.

Kazuki could only survive seconds within a Chaotic space. Even if he were to somehow only encounter Chaotic space for a few moments, the danger would be all too real. Now that he basically had infinite wealth, there was no reason to take such risks.

The Stargate’s bright light dulled before fading entirely. Stepping out of the tower, there was no greeting from any of the staff. To them, he was just another customer, and with his plain appearance, he was forgettable, to say the least.

The city he stepped into was far superior to the last one. Streets so clean one could eat off of them. Real smiles as far as the eye could see as people moved about through the city. The place was not some desperate depraved place. The contrast was almost baffling. The reason one place was poor and the other was filled with riches came down to the Gods that operated the cities. That along with some luck as those that ran this place had picked a much better location than those of the poorer city.

Kazuki took in a deep breath. This city was filled with Divine energy. If the last city was like a puddle worth of Divine power, this new city was a vast and deep ocean of it. The difference was just too drastic.

Kazuki had just come out of the tower and had only taken a few steps when a young man approached him. The young man was maybe 20 and wore a bright smile before he quickly introduced himself.

“Mister, you’re new to Talicus aren’t you? I can tell.”

“You can tell huh? How’s that?”

The young man pointed at a few buildings here and there.

“Usually when people that are familiar with this place step out of the Stargate, they automatically head off to handle their business. After all, those that use a Stargate have wealth beyond wealth. They aren’t going through one just to sightsee. As soon as you came out though you took a quick look around. Most people wouldn’t notice this but I have good eyes. Not just good eyes but I also know where to go to get things people need. You need a guide don’t you?”

Kazuki chuckled. Using his soul-reading ability he could tell the man was genuine and really wanted to guide him. This was his hustle in the big wide world.

“So I was that obvious huh?”

The man held up two fingers close together.

“Just a little bit but don’t worry I won’t lead you astray. How about sir, 10 Divine crystals for an afternoon? By that time you’ll know the city like the back of your hand. Really this will be my loss because I won’t be able to guide you in the future with you knowing the city’s whole layout and all.”

Kazuki was unaware of the prices in this city but he knew it was slightly over from the man’s soul. Still, he no longer saw money the way others would.

Arc rested on Kazuki’s left thumb and they pretended as if Arc was now a normal storage ring. Even if a God took a look at Arc, due to Arc’s powers, Arc would appear to be just a regular storage ring.

With a small flash of light, ten Divine crystals appeared in Kazuki’s hand. He tossed them over and the young man caught them happily.

“What’s your name?”

The man swiftly stored the crystals in his own ring before chuckling.

“Barm. What about you sir, what should I call you? I’d hate to make a mistake and offend you. Especially after you just hired me.”

“Just call me Medatte. Don’t worry about offending me. Simply take me where I say and all will be good.”

“If only things were so simple Medatte. I’m just a guide but you are a God. If I offend you and there are others around. I’m afraid someone will wring my neck for you just so others don’t start having funny ideas about disrespecting a God.”

“Right, that does make sense. Fine, do your best not to offend me, how’s that.”

Barm laughed at Kazuki’s sarcastic tone but still, he nodded and spoke honestly.

“I’ll do just that sir Medatte. Now, what is your interest? Looking for a place to rest, some equipment, or specialty items. Maybe a good show at the theater or a fight at the arena. A lady or two? Whatever it is. I’ll gladly show you the way.”

Kazuki thought for a moment.

“I need to find specific information. Do you know any brokers with that specialty?”

Barm slapped his chest.

“Absolutely, just follow me and I’ll take you there right away.”

Like that, Barm led the way through the crowded street. Along the way, Barm talked about Talicus and the many interesting things about said city. The shops with the best food, people to avoid, and where one could find the best entertainment.

The man was knowledgeable about many aspects of the city. Kazuki couldn’t help but wonder why he was only a guide.

There was no slave mark on him so he was a free man and when it came to power, the man, like him was also a Demigod. There should have been many things he could do to earn a living besides showing people from place to place.

He only thought about it so far, when they had arrived at their destination. Barm stopped in front of a 3 story building made of sky-blue bricks. There were many different inscriptions etched deep within said bricks. Kazuki could see through them all with his powers and noticed most of the inscriptions were for protection and defense.

(All this to protect some information. Interesting.)

“Sir Medatte this is the place. Inside they have tons of information that covers a vast amount of ideas and topics. Whether it’s current events, the history of Talicus city, neighboring cities, and so on. All of it of course for a fee. Depending on what you wish to know, the price of course can vary.”

A sign that hung on the building read.

[Galapolis Information Guild]

“Sir Medatte if you still need me afterward, I’ll be waiting here for your return.”

Kazuki gave him a nod before heading inside.

There were only a few people there that like Kazuki were seeking information.

Standing behind a counter a man shrouded in a dark cloak glanced over at Kazuki.

“Is your business public or private?”

His voice sounded as if it were scraping against the bark of a tree. Very unusual but nothing too weird.

The information Kazuki wanted wasn’t anything to hide but still, he did not want others to know his business. There was one person that had private affairs and was escorted up a set of stairs to someplace unseen. Another didn’t seem to care and just wanted information on the happenings around this Starpath.

The man asking for public information was handed a plain white crystal. He paid a fee and then picked up the crystal for but a moment. It glowed in return before the light faded. The man nodded for a moment before placing the crystal back down on the counter where it vanished into a subspace in said counter.

The person serving him asked the man.

“Will that be all sir or is there anything else you wish to know?”

“No that’s it for now. I just wanted to see if either side has made their move yet. Seems there are still talks being held but who knows if that’ll do any good or not.”

The man then turned and headed outside, and mumbled something under his breath.

“Crescent Knights should be able to handle things hopefully.”

Kazuki asked for privacy and the man behind the counter escorted him upstairs.

As they walked up the steps and through a long hallway. Kazuki could sense the presence of many Gods. None held ill intent for Kazuki but still, it was annoying having so many forces watch him without his permission. These hidden Gods were all observing not just him but anyone who was on the second floor.

(They must be protecting this place.)

Although they hid their presence as best they could. Kazuki and the Artifacts could easily detect them.

These hidden Gods had nowhere near the skill of the shadow. If it were the shadow, Kazuki may not even be able to detect him at this close range. These hidden Gods though were a joke at hiding away.

Even if they tried their best, Kazuki could still feel the subtle changes in Divine energy here and there.

Cracking a smile, Kazuki made his way to a room at the end of the hall.
