Return of the Fallen Volume 12 Chapter 92

Fleck’s eyes narrowed and sharpened as he saw movement in the distance.

“Master it’s coming! Seven seconds and it shall be upon us!”

Everyone was ready. Magic energy gathered around them and focused into everyone’s Divine soul weapons. The four groups were all in a diamond pattern formation and waited for this mysterious creature to make its appearance.

The trees in the forest shook violently as something trampled and knocked them away.

Just as the seven seconds were up, the monster broke out of the tree line and made its presence known with a vicious roar.

*RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!*

The air was ripped apart and dispersed and everyone felt their chests vibrate momentarily.

This threatening roar shook them but did not deter them. Before anyone could even make out what exactly this creature was, everyone all at once unleashed their mighty power upon it.

Beams of plasma and frozen light. Fusions of dark elements mixed with stone and fire. Hot magma and blinding golden light. Nearly every element was present and several had been combined and used in a way that seemed to go against nature itself.

*CRACKKKKKK-TZZTzTT BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM KA-BOOOOOOOOOOM!*

The surrounding area was covered in a veil of darkness that immediately switched to blinding white. Kazuki felt his eardrums shatter and the flow of his blood reversed for an instant as his vision went white.

Just in case, he had Arc monitoring his so-called allies to make sure they did not attack him at this moment. Thankfully everyone else had the same thoughts and remained vigilant and on guard. None dared to make a move with all of this distracting light as it also put them at a disadvantage. None could see nor sense a foot in front of them at this moment. To attack one another during this time could be said to be the best opportunity to take one another out but at the same time, it was quite dangerous.

Attacking now also opened one up to be attacked.

In this state of confusion and uncertainty, everyone had picked the safer option and decided to guard their own life rather than go on the offensive.

The air was both hot and freezing cold and within a single breath of time, all of the sound and air was sucked forcefully toward the epicenter of where they had all attacked.

As their collective senses returned, they were shocked to see that Chaotic space had not been ripped open. No, instead, as their sight returned, what they saw at the center of their destructive devastation was not a mangled bloodied mess of a body.

Everything cleared or rather was inhaled by the monster. Its large scaly head swallowed everyone’s combined attack in one solid gulping motion.

A small puff of smoke escaped past its lips as it belched in a satisfied manner.

Standing just over 16 feet tall with shoulders as wide as a horse-drawn cart, was a monstrous beast with a single snake-like head. 8 small protruding horns were spotted across the top of its head and it had three eyes, each one a different color. It had spider-like legs coming out of the side of its bulking torso and stood with two hoofed feet. A pair of wings leathery and bat-like were tucked between some of the spider arms.

It looked at Kazuki and the rest as if a tasty treat had arrived.

Opening its mouth a hiss came with its forked tongue as it spoke.

“I wondered who had come but for you to attack me the very moment I poke my beautiful head out…How unkind.”

Seeing as this monster held intelligence it changed everyone’s thoughts upside down. The last creature they fought was a monster made of flesh and parts and seemed to have no thoughts higher than an insect. This being though was clearly different. It was not only incredibly powerful with the way it just ate everyone’s power but it could also recognize friend from foe.

Dredinkar saw this as an opportunity. He took a step forward and folded his many arms over his chest in a sign of respect.

“Great lord, we meant no disrespect. We did not come here to cross you and the attacking just now was one of defense and nothing more. I ask that you overlook it and allow us to be on our way.”

Dredinkar had used a good portion of his energy and he could tell that everyone else, like him, had not gone all out and had plenty in reserve. This didn’t mean they could keep fighting with magical energy for long nor did it take away from this monster’s feat of swallowing the previous magic attack.

He felt some regret that everyone including him had really held back. The monster in front of them had escaped completely unharmed. Not only that, the way the monster stared at them, it was not one of a friendly stranger rather it was that of a predator with prey in its sight.

The monster was releasing plenty of killing intent and hid none of it as it laughed at Dredinkars proposal.

“Hehehe. You aren’t my enemy but we both know that is untrue. You all have come for something that can not be claimed by a mere God. It is not something you can control let alone wield. Only someone with my beauty can ever hope to obtain it. Unfortunately for you all, none of you are beautiful. Only the beautiful deserve to live within the Black gate!”

As soon as this monster finished its sentence, its snake-like neck stretched out like lightning and struck one of Dredinkar’s members without delay.

Everyone was already on guard and the tree folk that was struck had a barrier up and slashed at this snake head with everything he had but the snake head changed its angle of attack the moment a blade came slashing down.

Its huge head opened up directly in the tree folk beings face and a powerful blast came rushing out with a blinding light.

Dredinkar and everyone else were too slow as this blast of strange light hit the tree folk man and his flesh instantly being to harden and turn black. Just as Everyone tried to strike this monster down, its head retracted at incredible speed.

“You cannot hit me with such slow movements. Just like your friend, stay still and die.”

The tree folk man froze on the spot before falling over. His entire body had turned pitch black and the moment his frozen body hit the ground, he shattered and turned into a thick black powder on the ground.

Everyone looked at this with a stunned expressions. They had never seen someone become powder before. Not ash from a blazing inferno nor dust or dirt or bits of flesh and bone. No, this tree folk man was reduced to a powder-like substance.

Dredinkar shouted at everyone.

“DON’T LET THAT BLAST TOUCH YOUR SKIN!”

Even Kazuki was unsure what this new type of energy was. Again there was an energy he had never felt before.

Everyone backed away in haste and Specxzu mandibles clicked as he gave a command.

“Keep a distance and destroy this thing with everything you have!”

The monster chuckled.

“You know you can’t stay away from something as beautiful as me…Why even try?”

Once again as soon as it finished its sentence, its neck extended like a snake striking its prey. This time it was aimed directly at Carta. Carta was much faster in her response than Dredinkar’s comrade. She punched forward and the snake’s head changed angles once more.

“That won’t work dragon child.”

The monster opened its mouth directly in front of her but in return, she opened her own mouth and roared.

*HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!*

A white flame erupted from her mouth and burned like a million stars. It instantly collided with the snake’s own white beam but it was obvious that her blazing fire was being overwhelmed but it’s not like everyone else was a sitting duck.

Specxzu had a sharp thin blade in his hand. With a single thought, the blade extended dozens of feet and stabbed at the creature’s head but bounced off. His soldiers also slashed at the air and sent out wind blades by the hundreds. It would have been more but this world was limiting their powers.

Fleck fired countless arrows from his long bow and Nala wielded a mighty war hammer but she was not the best at magic and could only offer support. Kazuki brought her due to her physical strength. In a ranged battle though things became more challenging.

Kazuki as well shot a beam of fused black fire but just like Specxzu, his power simply bounced off the creature’s thick body.

Dredinkar and his last companion were having trouble just the same. All of their magic was merely bouncing off this creature’s tough body. As Carta’s beam was weakening her companions jumped in. They as well opened their mouths and blasted this snake monster with beams of fiery energy.

This just caused the snake monster to laugh.

“Yes yes, more ugly things come to die from this beautiful one.”
