Return of the Fallen Volume 13 Chapter 112

Through coded language, Kazuki had asked for the information in Verick’s mind. Not just for his sake or Vericks, but for the entire Hell Realm and beyond.

To this request, Verick gave a firm no.

(Things are not so simple. The answer is no and you already know why. In the end, it comes down to who you are and who I am. I do not know you. From the moment you entered this Realm to our interactions and more. You’re whole being has been a massive facade. Even the start of this conversation was a trick to try and back me into a corner and force my cooperation. You are a stranger in these lands and have no affiliation with me or my race. Out of all the unforeseen factors I’ve come across and dealt with, you are by far the biggest wild card. Because of this, it is best to end this conversation.)

Kazuki could have predicted this but for it to really come to an end like this was basically a disaster.

(Verick even if you can’t trust me, the only other option is Mefius. Are you really going to risk him gaining the Primordial being’s power? Even though you know he will sacrifice everything and everyone to obtain it?)

(Kazuki…You think I haven’t thought that far ahead? I won’t speak further on it. You just need to stay out of it as this is no concern to an outsider. So long as I draw breath, Mefius shall not have his way. This Realm will survive and peace will return. All this to say, stay out of the way, and do not become my enemy for when the battle starts, the word mercy will no longer be in my vocabulary.)

After that Verick stood up and the door to his office opened. His speaking was no longer coded as he gestured toward the door.

“That was a very interesting conversation but I still have much work to do. It’s time you take your leave Kazuki.”

There was no getting through to Verick. In his eyes, Kauzki was a stranger and an incredibly weak one at that. Even if he had several different skills here and there it did not make up for what Verick perceived as a lack of power. Kazuki was useless and untrustworthy in his eyes. Verick would not kill Kazuki but at the same time, he would not align himself with such a random factor.

So long as Kazuki brought him no trouble and stayed out of the way, Verick had no problem with him.

Kazuki understood all of this. Standing up he smiled.

“I guess you’re right Lord. I also have duties though not as important as yours. I better go fulfill them before I get into trouble. After all, a man must be responsible and finish their task until the end, otherwise, he is no man.”

Verick said nothing to this but Kazuki knew he felt those words. With nothing more to say, Kazuki left Verick’s office.

Verick pulled his chair back behind his desk and sat down as if he were exhausted. He continued to ignore the observing crystal in the corner of his room before returning to his work as if nothing had happened.

Kazuki returned to the smithy beneath the mansion. As soon as he walked in Basha Desetos and the others were already waiting for him. There was also an unexpected guest. Runa as well was standing nearby.

Basha practically bounced as she walked over in excitement with the much larger Desetos following up behind her.

“Kazuki what took you so long? We’ve had the fires stoked and going for a while now waiting for you.”

Desetos bonked her on the head causing her to roll around in pain as she gripped her head.

“What was that for?”

Desetos shook his head.

“Kazuki just got here and you’re already filling his head with crap. If you put all that pressure on him as soon as he arrives, you’ll be to blame when he gets distracted and messes up the swords.”

At first, everyone was heading over in Kazuki’s direction but when they heard Desetos’s explanation they stopped in their tracks. Several eyes fell on a certain individual on the opposite side of the room. Of course, it was Editrix. He had gotten punished for interfering with Kazuki. Even now he was still floating over an anvil, working on Bodock’s sword. His lower half was nowhere to be found and a pained expression on his face.

Mefius had dealt him an anguishing blow. Mefius had many subordinates with the capability of healing Editrix and restoring his legs but chose not to. A lesson to be seen so as to teach others not to make the same mistake and mess with Kazuki when he has such an important task to complete.

The other workers swallowed hard before returning back to whatever work they had.

Basha also hesitated to say anything else but Runa was different. She walked straight over and smiled at him. First off, this smile brought fear to many around them. Seeing the young miss smiling was already incredibly rare but it was especially off for her to be smiling at Kauzki who they all assumed were enemies up to this point.

Even if she had deterred Editrix and stood up for Kazuki yesterday, they still did not think it was a permanent change of the sort. They simply assumed it was Master Mefius’s command. Seeing her smile pleasantly at Kazuki, many thought it was some kind of cruel trick.

“Kazuki what took you so long? I’ve been waiting down here in this filthy place for a while now that I’ve grown entirely bored.”

Basha stared up at Desetos, waiting for him to give the same treatment to Runa for she had said basically the same thing but Desetos kept quiet and made no move as if he hadn’t heard Runa.

“Desetos how come she can say it but not me?”

Basha began to complain and Desetos quickly covered Basha’s mouth and dragged her away to the opposite side of the smithy. Runa found the pair funny but held back her laughter. She was focused on Kazuki and was still waiting for an answer.

“Hey, are you going to answer me or do I have to come to your room again.”

The way Runa said this was playful which again confused others as well as shocked them.

Kazuki ignored the whisperings.

“I just had some matters to discuss with Lord Verick.”

Runa was annoyed.

“With teacher. What boring lesson did he try and drivel out?”

“There was nothing boring about it. We had an interesting and fun discussion about books.”

“Books, ugh I hate books. What can you find in such boring things?”

Kazuki chuckled lightly.

“You’d be surprised.”

After that, he walked over to the same forge he used yesterday. A small young Gerian was sweeping up the dust and slag around it trying to make it as pristine as possible. When he saw Kazuki come over, the young lad looked like he was in a daze before he saw Runa following Kazuki. He jumped up with a start and quickly ran away to avoid her sharp gaze.

Again people watched this scene with confusion. Kazuki and Runa were chatting with one another and getting along as if it were the most natural thing to do. Runa was even following Kazuki like a lost cub.

“So anyway, now that you’re here I’m going to watch you closely.”

“Watch me closely…for what?”

Runa’s cheeks flushed a light pink before she quickly changed her words.

“I mean not you. I’m gonna watch your aura and how you control it, definitely not you!”

Kazuki stared at her in silence.

“Stop staring already. You’re the one who agreed to teach me how to use my aura like you do remember?”

“It’s not like I would forget something that happened a mere few hours ago. Which is why it makes no sense that you’ve already forgotten that I said I would only teach you if you got your fa…Master’s permission and also only after the war.”

Runa smiled proudly and held her chin up with the end of her tail.

“While you were talking about dull crystal books with teacher, I was already talking about this very subject with Master. He said so long as it was after the war, he didn’t care. Also to add, my memory is just as good as yours, in fact, it’s probably much better than yours. Of course, I did not forget what we talked about. I never said you had to teach me today. I merely said I would watch the way you use it. I’m gonna observe the way you work so I don’t miss a single detail. Even if you don’t tell me what you’re doing letter by letter. I am confident in picking things up as I go. Not to brag but many have considered me a genius in this regard. I’m sure I’ll learn a few of your mysterious skills just by watching.”

(I wonder what fools claimed that? Maybe she forced them to.)
