Return of the Fallen Volume 13 Chapter 121

Before they departed from the city, Verick returned and gave two storage items to both Runa and Kazuki. To Runa, he gifted a silver ring with gold etched in the sides. Kazuki checked it’s capacity and found it severely lacking. In total, it was around half a dozen hills in both range and size. With Kazuki’s Magitech and knowledge, he could easily make a storage item that could hold an entire Lower Realm at this point.

This was already disappointing. Then Verick tossed an ugly brown fur bag to him. It’s capacity was laughable. Maybe it could hold a thousand feet by a thousand feet. The maybe came due to the fact that the bag was worn and damaged. It could break if one loaded too much inside.

(Verick must still be holding a grudge from earlier. He probably thinks I dragged him into the frey purposely and he would be right. Even when I did that though he still did not blame me nor did he call me out. Secrets do not spill from this man easily.)

Runa also noticed the sad-looking bag.

“Teacher this isn’t fair. Kazuki’s bag is bound to break at this rate. I can’t let anything ruin this mission, otherwise Master will blame me.”

“I’m sure Kazuki will find a way. He always seems to have something hidden up his sleeve. Even if it’s at the detriment of others, he’ll pull through.”

(Yep, even if he doesn’t show it on the outside, he’s definitely still pissed at me. Sorry, but It was necessary. Mefius I’m sure is suspicious of me and Verick. If Verick just took my side during that conversation, Mefius most likely would have found something off and not allowed me to go so easily.)

Kazuki had to push Verick a little to keep Mefius at bay. He did not know if it would work but thankfully things fell in his favor.

Verick said nothing else and ignored RUna’s glare before returning to the mansion.

“Runa, Verick is still busy. The fact that he still handed me this storage bag, means he’s still looking out for me or rather he’s looking out for you without hand-feeding you. This could be a teaching moment. He knows the bag is worn and is most likely testing you, seeing if you can overcome another bump in the road so to speak.”

Runa thought for a moment before gnashing her teeth.

“Still, why make things even more difficult? He knows how fa, Master will react. Fine, whatever, if teacher wants to play this game I’ll show him. Come, let’s get this done and return triumphant with our heads held high.”

Runa shouted to the soldiers in front of her. Each of them was lined up in perfect rows. All of them had a brand new sword attached to their hip and were excited to try the new cooking method Kazuki showed them.

“Men, Move Out!”

The sound of rhythmic marching echoed through the city until they finally left the city. As soon as they were on the outskirts of the city, these rows of soldiers spread out from one another. With that, their wings unfurled from their bodies and expanded and stretched.

“Kazuki how long can you fly for or rather can you even fly?”

Runa looked Kazuki up and down and noticed he had no wings. She knew he had no wings all this time but it never really crossed her mind that he was wingless. After all, she saw Kazuki as an equal now and as a comrade. He was a person to her and so even though she knew he was wingless, it just kind of went over her head for a moment.

“Flying is a no-go. Maybe I can hover for a while but with this collar still restricting me as well as this world, staying in the sky let alone flying just isn’t an option. Maybe you could remove it for me, heh.”

Runa rolled her eyes.

“Funny, my father would kill me if I even touched your collar. Forget about his frozen world, he’d grind me into dust and leave nothing else behind. Guess there’s no choice.”

*Snap*

With a snap of her fingers, two random soldiers came over.

“Help Kazuki take to the skies and you’d better not drop him or your heads will roll, got it?”

The two soldiers gulped before grabbing each of Kazuki’s arms. Just before they were to take off, Runa stopped them.

“Wait a moment. You fall back with the rest, I’ll take your place.”

Runa specifically pointed out the female soldier and sent her back to the rest of the group. Kazuki sensed jealousy from Runa. The male soldier said nothing and pretended he knew nothing as to why Runa did this but it was not something she could easily hide as a few snickers and laughing came from behind them.

Runa yelled at them and put them in their place.

“SILENCE YOU FOOLS! If another sound comes from any of you and it’s not a war cry from engaging enemies, I’ll be sure to feed your insolent asses to the first shrieker I see. NOW FLY!”

Runa wrapped her arm around Kazuki’s and so too did the soldier on his other side before they took off into the air above.

Even though she shouted at them, her cheeks were red the entire time.

Following Runa’s lead, the group of soldiers, around five hundred of them took off after her.

While flying through the sky, one thing stuck out to him. The speed…It was slow. Not so slow that one would want to traverse the ground but still, compared to how fast an unbound Kazuki could fly, they moved at a snail’s pace.

“Runa, is this the fastest you can fly?”

Runa felt a little embarrassed but quickly passed the blame onto the other soldiers.

“For me no. I can go a few times faster than these weaklings can. However, the overall average speed is definitely lower amongst the rest of them.”

Kazuki already knew this from reading everyone’s soul. He was just messing with Runa and he quickly started laughing.

Seeing him laugh, she knew he was just messing with her and her grip on his arm loosened a bit.

“Keep messing with me and I’ll drop you!”

To his teasing, Runa found herself teasing him back.

Kazuki pretended to panic slightly.

“No no no, I get it. You’re very fast I believe you.”

Runa smirked.

“Your damn right I’m fast.”

“I’ve been wondering. Between Master and Lord Bodock…who’s the fastest in the sky?”

Again he knew the answer already but for some reason, he felt like talking about these things with her.

“If we’re talking pure speed with wings alone, then that title definitely goes to my f…Master.”

Runa caught her slip-up in front of the other soldier before continuing.

“Master is faster than Uncle Bodock when it comes to flying but Bodock is even faster than Master when he soars across the sky riding his Crimson cloud. There’s also teacher who’s slightly slower than Master and finally Uncle Bearon. Among the four of them, he is by far the slowest as well as the biggest.”

“Hmm, is his crimson cloud really that fast? What if he doesn’t use it against Lord Verick, who’s faster when it comes to flying then?”

Before Runa could speak the soldier helping carry Kazuki excitedly spoke first.

“Lord Bodock’s crimson cloud is the fastest object in all of this Hell Realm, maybe the fastest in all the Hell Realms combined. Some say

The man’s words froze in his throat as he caught Runa glaring at him as if she would murder him. He quickly covered his mouth with his own tail and refused to speak further on the matter. Runa smiled before continuing where the man left off.

“There’s no maybe to it. Uncle Bodock’s cloud is faster than anything out there guaranteed. I once got to ride when I was small. It went so far and so fast in a split second, that I feared we might tear through space and die. It was simply thrilling. As for teacher and Uncle Bodock racing against one another with just their normal flying…I don’t really know. The two have never gone head to head in terms of natural speed. Most likely I’d say teacher but even if I asked, Teacher would just spout some confusing quote from an ancient book to try and teach me some sort of lesson. Uncle Bodock would bring an even lesser result and he’d probably just get mad at me.”

Runa fell silent and seemed saddened before she quickly perked up.

“Forget them though. I can’t wait until I’ve mastered your aura teachings. With that type of power, I’ll surpass all of them and they’ll have to respect me. With your aura, I should be able to move faster than even them right!?”

If Kazuki really did teach her all of his aura techniques, combined with her own aptitude, he could see a reality where she really could surpass them all.

(Mimicking different elements with aura, aura strengthening, aura breath, aura folding, etc. It’s certainly more possible than not.)

“If you master my teachings, you will definitely be able to surpass them all one day.”

Kazuki smiled fakely at her.

(Soon I will be far away from this place, and I will never return. At least before I go, I’ll leave this place without a tyrannical monster, and you can live in peace. My techniques, though, sorry but they will be remaining with me.)
