Return of the Fallen Volume 13 Chapter 82

Monsuta no longer wished to stay in a world such as this. Knowing there was now a way out, his mood was lifted. He only had to wait for Kauzki tp prepare things, and he would soon regain his freedom.

Monsuta was not the only one with a lighter mood. As the two golems fought and tried to knock one another out of the circle, the crowd was going wild. Some soldiers had even gotten involved and began grappling with one another to see who could best one another. Food was mainly meat, as well as different types of fire.

Even Mefius was grinning as he took in the show. He analyzed the golems and the inscriptions upon their bodies. He found the way Kazuki used magic very interesting and wondered what other mysterious lie with him.

As everyone was celebrating and having fun, out in the distance, something exploded.

*BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!*

The sky lit up with red light for a brief flash before the light blue tint returned to the sky.

*ROAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!*

A roar broke the air and shook the world itself. Just before this roar hit the city, Mefius glanced at Verick.

Verick took a single step forward before his aura grew and encapsulated the entire city, protecting it from this powerful roar. Kauzki and Monsuta recognized this roar right away. it was the giant shrieker they came against on the night of the burning green flames.

Monsuta’s legs became wobbly as he remembered what that roar brought with it. He and Kazuki had come close to death.

(Kazuki it’s the Shrieker king!)

(I know. There should be nothing to fear though. It’s far away and Mefius can take care of it should it show up.)

Kazuki found it strange that he felt a small bit of comfort knowing he was safer in this city than outside of it. He felt pathetic in a sense but for now, there was nothing he could do but bide his time.

*FSHHHH!*

The sound of fire erupting echoed out and the sky lit up one more time before the world stopped shaking and everything went quiet. All of the servants once more fell to their knees and began praying, while the soldiers held their weapons in hand. Even if they could do nothing against a force so great, they still had to draw their weapons and pretend they weren’t shaken to the core.

Half a second later, the same red cloud as before appeared in the distance and swiftly approached the city. Verick pulled his aura back when he saw the red cloud and Mefius stood up with a large smile. The red cloud stopped just above the field before Bodock leapt down from it and landed on the ground with a low thud.

As soon a she landed, everyone but Mefius and Verick were shocked. Seeing his appearance it was understandable why the servants and soldiers audibly gasped. Many of them stepped backward a few steps and a few screamed in shock. Some of them had not recognized Bodock at first and thought he was some wild monster.

His entire body was covered head to toe in greenish-yellow blood. This blood was slowly starting to evaporate and left a foul smell in the air as it did. Part of Bodock’s tail was missing and his left wing had several tears from claw marks. What was most gruesome was his right arm was completely missing from his shoulder and a large chunk of flesh was missing from his right side as if something had ripped him apart.

One could see his internal organs and broken bones inside the side of his torso.

All of this was healing but it was obvious Bodock was in extreme pain.

Many did not even know how he was still standing.

Mefius jumped down from the platform he was on and rushed over toward Bodock.

“Brother, tell me it was a success!”

Bodock ignored Mefius at first. He opened his hand and several platters of fire energy flew over from the nearby tables. His mouth opened wider than what seemed possible and the many different fire energies were sucked into his mouth and he gulped them down instantly. With this newfound fire energy, his horrendous wounds began to regenerate at a much faster rate that was visible to the naked eye.

Mefius was annoyed by this but understood.

“Brother, tell me you did not fail. I would be most… disappointed if you did.”

Bodock glared at Mefius before sighing inwardly.

“The ritual was…a success. I found one of the five shrieker kings nest. The orb led me there without fail and I was surrounded instantly. They tried but I managed to fend them off before I had to…leave.”

Mefius’s expression changed from annoyance to immense joy. A smirk planted on his face, and he slapped Bodock’s shoulder which caused the wounded Bodock a great deal of pain but Mefius did not care as he teased Bodock.

“You mean you ran away, right?”

Bodock grit his teeth and his fangs dug into his lower lip. His good hand grabbed the large sword off of his back and he stabbed it into the ground in between himself and Mefius.

*Bang*

The sword was buried halfway into the ground and small red sparks were dancing between the two different blades before the sparks finally died out and his sword glowed no more. Looking at the sword, it was badly damaged. There were pieces missing here and there and it was chipped all across the surface. Bodock was pissed.

“I had no choice. They wrecked my sword and nearly tore me apart. If I didn’t leave then, I would not have returned. That bastard, you would think he would hold back inside the tunnels with all of his lowly shirkers in there but he attacked without holding anything back. He used his territory perfectly to his advantage. Fighting a shrieker in their own backyard is not something anyone should do and I walked right in following that stupid orb.”

Bodock glanced over at Editrix and Editrix seemed to shrink in his skin as he quickly hid behind Verick.

Mefius held up a hand in front of Bodock who looked like he was about to pounce on the little green one.

“Don’t take your anger out on Editrix, it is misplaced. You know who our enemy is and what we will soon do to them. Editrix fulfilled his role perfectly as I commanded. Because of this, we now know how to perfectly locate the five kings. For so long they have hid away or ran whenever we tried to corner them. Now, there will be no more running, and no longer will they be able to hide from us now that the ritual works. The fools, they gave up their Vazul identity to gain more power and now because they use the primordial flame, they can be tracked with primordial fire. How funny.”

Mefius’s tail wrapped around Bodock’s broken sword and pulled it from the ground. It gleamed under the blue sun’s light. With a flick of his tail the blade went flying and landed at Editrix’s feet causing him to fall backward and land on his ass.

“Ma…Master?”

“Repair that as quickly as possible Editrix for battle will soon be upon us.”

Editrix’s ears twitched and he quickly jumped to his feet. He grabbed the hilt of the sword but found he could not pull it out of the ground. He felt foolish as he knew just how heavy this blade was.

Verick saw him struggling and lifted it with ease.

“Take it and go.”

Editrix was thankful and quickly opened his ring storing the large heavy blade inside before running toward the mansion.

By this time, Bodock was nearly healed entirely.

“Mefius, the time is quickly approaching. Do not forget our deal.”

Mefius gently placed a hand on Bodock’s shoulder before his eyes glowed red.

“Big brother…Do you think my word is less than shit?”

Squeezing Bodock’s shoulder with a large amount of force, Bodock instantly fell to one knee as popping rang out from his bones. Bodock did not release a cry of pain rather he held his brother’s hand and spoke with absolute confidence.

“Whether it is shit or not, we shall soon see. I have served you loyally for countless years, not just me but Bearon as well. Even though you are the youngest, even though we have been your sword we still have carried on. So when I say do not forget our deal, I do not speak these words lightly. Loyalty must go both ways, otherwise even if we share blood, what trust can last between us?”

Mefius went silent and shut his eyes for a moment before he suddenly released Bodock.

He then turned around and walked away.

“Right, you are brother. I have not forgotten so do your best in the upcoming fight. For if you fail, if you are the weaker link and cannot hold your word to me…It shall be the last failure you ever commit.”
