Kimi’s eyes shot open and darted around the room. As soon as she saw the person of her hearts desire she leapt at Sam with tears forming at the edge of her eyes.
*Euh*
Sam released a small grunt but Kimi’s ears clearly picked it up. She tore herself away from him and began to rub his body all over inspecting it. No one else would have any clue what Sam’s grunt meant but Kimi knew right away that something was wrong.
“Sam, what is it, are you hurt somewhere?”
Kimi inquired worriedly. Sam said nothing but gave a slight nod and slowly lifted his shirt. His sides and abdomen were wrapped in bluish-purple bruises the size of frying pans. Several wounds with large teeth marks were leftover but by now they had fully closed and Sam was healing at a slow yet visible rate.
Kimi gently touched it and although Sam didn’t make any painful grunts, she could tell he was really hurting. Removing her hand she lowered his shirt and wrapped her arms gently around his neck.
“I’m so glad…I’m so glad you’re still here.”
Sam’s expression remained the same and he too embraced Kimi, silently.
*Smack*
Sam’s eyes widened as he felt a slap on his back.
Shin broke out into laughter.
“Hahahaha, good to see you’re still among the living. What I don’t get is why is it every time there’s a fight, you always seem to be the one to receive the heaviest blows. You always get hurt no matter what. Just curious, have you ever heard of the word dodge, bwahahahaha!”
Sam grabbed the bedding beneath Shin’s feet to try and trip him but Shin did a somersault and landed like a cat. His expression grew even brighter and he laughed even harder. A few villagers who witnessed this scene even clapped in praise.
Shin lowered his face next to Sam’s and chuckled again.
“You may have the strongest fist amongst us but what’s the point if you can’t hit anything. Like the fight earlier how many blows did you land against that ugly bug 3-4. Basically every time you did manage to get a hit in, the very next moment you yourself were sent flying. Imagine how the fight would have gone for us if you could not get destroyed every 5 seconds. I just wonder if…”
*Flash*
A beam of light landed squarely in Shin’s eye which caused him to fall backward and trip over a nearby chair. He gripped his face whilst rolling around in pain.
Kimi lowered her staff and snorted.
“Hmpf, Sam was the one taking all the hits for us. If not for him who knows how many times we all would have died by now. You, on the other hand, you kick your little feet every once in a while and cut some stuff up. Sam holds it down so you can make your move yet you waste the opportunities. This is why you’ll die a virgin!”
Shin left eye stung but hearing Kimi’s words, especially that last line, stung completely.
While still rolling around in pain, Shin roared out in anger.
“You bitch! you fucking nasty bitch!”
Sam’s hammer appeared in his hands and he was just about to use it when Kazuki grabbed his shoulder.
“Sam, there are more important things.”
Kazuki pointed at Asuna who was still unconscious and Sam’s heart shook.
“Asuna!”
*Thud*
His hammer fell heavily to the floor as he raced over to Asuna’s side. Kimi grumbled a bit seeing Sam’s reaction but she said nothing since Asuna was also her friend. Plus she understood where Sam’s feeling truly lie. Kimi pouted a bit and followed behind Sam.
The villagers were worried, seeing the adventurers fight but with it broken up rather easily, there worries soon faded.
Kazuki lowered himself down and squatted next to Shin. Kazuki grabbed his arms and held him still.
“Stop moving around recklessly, let me check your eyes.”
Shin’s breathing became heavy as he cursed.
“Fuck what the hell is wrong with that woman? Dammit dammit dammit.”
Kazuki used his ki to investigate Shin’s eyes and found there was nothing wrong.
“Ha, you insult her man right in front of her and you wonder why she’s upset. Granted, attacking you may have gone too far but it’s a lot better than the alternative.”
Shin slowly opened his eyes as the pain began to fade.
“Alternative, what alternative?”
“Well, Sam of course. Sam can take a lot of abuse but he was clearly already at the edge when you started to berate him. Would you rather have a sting in your eye from Kimi or several broken bones from Sam.”
Shin snorted.
“Hmpf, hed have to catch me first.”
Kazuki chuckled before his expression darkened.
“Can you watch your back at all times? What will you do when your awoken one night completely unprepared and Sam’s large figure is standing over you? Are you confident you can evade his gasp then? In the end, Kimi was kind and left you off the hook with only a stinging sensation, when clearly she could have melted your eyes. We may be all on the same team but you forget that some of us are closer than others and some of us are not close at all.”
Shin gulped dryly and looked at Sam and Kimi’s backs. A chill ran down his spine.
Kazuki held out a hand and pulled Shin up.
“Maybe we aren’t as close as a group fighting for their lives should be but its not like we can’t grow with one another. Remember, we’re all eating a shit sandwich out here. Let’s try and make the best of it, ok?”
Shin looked at the two sitting by Asuna’s side and finally let out a heavy breath.
“I’ll try…but I ain’t giving up my jokes, got it?”

Nunully how is she.
Nunully was unsure.
“I can’t tell. Like I told Ryuta and Shin, she has no wounds that I can see and everything else is stable. I just don’t understand this. A soul attack does this?”
Kazuki and Shin came over and sat down forming a circle around Asuna. Kimi glared at Shin but Shin remained composed.
“What, no snide remark?”
Shin smiled.
“Kimi, I’m really trying to be of help to Asuna, could you please not bother me.”
Kimi was taken aback and swallowed the insult she had prepared for Shin back down her throat. Shin then turned to Kazuki and asked sincerely.
“Ryuta, do you have any plans?”
Kimi and Sam both shared a look of slight disbelief. Shin though was laughing on the inside.
(Bwahahahaha, this reaction is good to see as well. Maybe I should mix things up every once and a while.)
Shin’s thoughts were as such until he took a cursory glance down at Asuna. Seeing her calm appearance he then looked at the others and found them all wearing the same worried look. Suddenly the laugh within his mind stopped as a realization struck him.
(Am I the asshole? I was just being funny but now I’m feeling like shit seeing their faces.)
Shin looked back down at Asuna.
(I hope Asuna’s ok.)

After explaining to Kimi and Sam what a soul attack was and what he had experienced, Sam gave a suggestion.
“Hmm, so you woke up after almost splatting on the ground inside your mind. Is there not a way to simulate that in the real world for her.”
Kimi grabbed Sam’s arm.
“Wait you’re not suggesting we throw her off a roof are you?”
Shin grinned.
“That would definitely hurt, wouldn’t want to be her.”
Even Mei panicked a bit when she heard Kimi mention roof throwing. She squeezed Asuna’s hand tighter on reflex and screamed.
“No! you can’t do that to big sis! I won’t let you!”
Everyone’s attention was focused on Mei except for Nunully. Nunully’s eyes widened as she saw Asuna’s eyelids trembled for a moment, causing her to shout at everyone.
“Wait wait, look at Asuna’s eyes there…”
Just as she said that though, Asuna’s eyes stopped moving and went back to normal. Everyone looked Between Asuna and Nunully in confusion. Kazuki though noticed something. His eyes locked in on Mei’s grip on Asuna’s hand and an idea formed in his head.
“Mei, if we threw Asuna off of the roof would that upset you?”
Mei squeezed Asuna’s hand again and shouted at Kazuki in both fear and anger.
“Why would you say that? Of course, I’d be upset, I’d be, I’d be, I’d be…huh?”
Mei this time looked down at her own hand and felt Asuna’s fingers twitch ever so slightly.
Mei held Asuna’s arm up in excitement and yelled at Kazuki.
“Big bro big bro, something just happened to big sis, her hand, its…huh.”
Asuna’s twitching stopped and Mei was left confused.
“Mei, let go of Asuna’s hand I want to confirm something.”
Mei didn’t get what Kazuki wanted to do but still, she obediently let go of Asuna’s hand. The sight she saw afterward shocked her as well as a few others in the surroundings.
On Asuna’s hand, just like Sam’s torso, there was bluish-purple bruising. Asuna’s, however, was in the shape of a small child’s handprint. Mei’s face paled realizing what she had done, causing large tears to start to pour from her face as she cried.
“Big sis I didn’t mean to, I didn’t mean…Wahhh!”
Nunully hugged Mei whispering there there in her ear while stroking her hair. Shin and Kimi though had totally different reactions. They saw Mei as a child and forgot the strength she wields. In her human form, her strength could be considered third among them all and that wasn’t far behind Sam and Kazuki. Not only that, because she’s technically still a kid, she doesn’t have complete control over her strength, especially when she gets emotional.
They weren’t blaming her for her strength but the two unconsciously scooted back a few inches in fear.
Kazuki, on the other hand, was observing Asuna’s reactions. With his superior senses, he had caught every minute detail and it came to him.
He beamed brightly at Mei and thanked her.
“Mei, you’ve done it thank you. With this, I think I’ve figured out how to wake up big sis. Mei, good job.”
Everyone simultaneously had the exact same thought at this moment.
(Huh!?)
