Nunully was almost pouting at Retsu. Both of her hands on her hips, she got angry.
“That’s what I’ve been trying to say. Just how long were you gonna leave them in that weird soul dream thing? Ryuta said it felt like weeks and Asuna said it felt so long she lost track of time. She said it was terrifying being in there for so long so imagine what everyone must be suffering now.”
Retsu appeared right in front of Nunully and flicked her on her forehead with his antennai, changing her expression from one of anger to pain. Rubbing her forehead a few tears welled up in her eyes.
“What was that for?”
Retsu waved his antennai left in right like a finger.
“You assume far too much little lady. I and Zetsu are completely different. He uses his attacks to prolong suffering so he can feed for a while. I, on the other hand, use my soul attack to incapacitate only. I simply knock one out with my power. This goes back to gods and how vastly different each one of them are from one another. Zetsu is cruel and vile, he wishes to see others suffer and fall apart. When I awake your friends from my soul attack, it will merely be as if they had only fallen asleep for but a moment. The time they experience is similar as well. Maybe it will feel like a minute or two had passed, nothing more. Do you get it now little half-elf?”
Nunully had a small red mark on the center of her forehead. With a small nod, she understood. Still, she didn’t get why she had to get hit for that explanation.
Kazuki walked over and placed a hand over her forehead and passed her a little ki to relieve the pain.
“Is that better?”
Nunully cheeks pinkened by the sudden touch.
“Y…yes.”
Kazuki and Shin grabbed everyone’s scattered bodies and brought them closer together. Retsu shut his eyes for a moment before he reopened them, a multitude of different colors danced within his sight. A pulse of energy built up and Retsu’s eyes flashed.
*Shine*
Light shot out of his eyes and landed upon Asuna and the others one by one.
Retsu’s breath relaxed and his eyes returned once more to pitch-black.
Asuna’s eyelids fluttered before she slowly opened them and sat up. Looking around, the first thing she noticed was Retsu’s large body. A flash of anger took over her. She was just about to jump up and fight when Kazuki knelt down next to her.
“Glad to see your up. Maybe this time you can stay awake for once.”
Before she could ask what was up one by one everyone else woke up.
Kimi, of course, screamed at the top of her lungs seeing Retsu so close and Mei almost started crying. Only Sam had his same unbothered expression. Kazuki did his best to quickly explain the situation but Kimi was slightly faster and fired several Solar Flares from her staff in one go.
5, 6,7 different orbs of light flew out in different directions and exploded into flashes of light that shined as bright the sun. Everyone had to cover their eyes or be blinded by this unexpected panic attack. Meanwhile, Kimi had been so scared that she had completely forgotten that light doesn’t affect Retsu’s race in the least. While everyone else covered their eyes in pain, Retsu simply watched on and laughed at Kimi’s foolish behavior.
Kazuki could understand her fear but still, this random firing of her power was dangerous and stupid and it pissed Kazuki off. Kazuki’s ferocious reverberated right next to Kimi’s eardrum.
“God Dammit Kimi Stop!”
Kimi gripped the side of her head in pain but this pain also brought her back to reality. Her eyes wavered as she looked up at Kazuki.
“Eh, Ryuta but that monster it was…it was?”
Retsu was still laughing at Kimi but besides that, he wasn’t doing anything that could be considered threatening in the least. Kimi understood that something wasn’t quite right and her next words got stuck in her throat. Her eyes searched the cave chamber until they landed upon Sam’s wide back and she ran over and jumped him.
Sam easily caught her and held her tightly.
Mei was still on the verge of tears so Nunully walked over and comforted her. A simple awakening became a mess but now things seemed to be calmer.
As Kimi’s last solar flare burned out, the cave returned to darkness.
“Kimi, light.”
Kimi being in Sam’s arms was a lot more responsive and understood. This time she lit an orb up, filling the cave with a much gentler light.
“Good, now that everyone is not freaking out, let me introduce our new ally. This is Retsu Gai, were gonna help him capture Zetsu.”
Retsu introduced himself before he and Kazuki explained the situation. Going over who he was and what he was here to do, Retsu talked about Zetsu being a criminal who was to be captured and punished at his clan. He explained about Zetsu growing stronger and how he on the inverse was growing weaker and it would only be a matter of time that he could no longer control all of the fog in the cave. Every detail came out, Retsu would hide nor hold anything back. He already decided to go all-in with these mortals so that’s exactly what he was doing.
After explaining Kimi pouted.
“Let me guess, our fearless leader has already agreed to this?”
Shin smirked in the corner.
“Of course he did, he always does.”
Kazuki eyed the two of them but he didn’t get upset.
“I guess you two have already forgotten the part where we’ve already fought Zetsu, I didn’t force you to fight but instead we all jumped in because we wanted to. You heard Retsu, currently, he is the only one who can get us back to the right time outside of this cave. So yes I agreed for you but hey I figured you guys would want to be in the right time, was I wrong?”
The two both clamped up.
Retsu cleared his throat.
*Ahem*
It’s as the boy says. if you help me, I’m more then willing to lend my power to move you all back to your correct time. Though if you do not wish to participate I can understand that as well. You all are free mortals to do with yourselves as you see fit but if you do not help me, I absolutely will not help you, understood?”
Shin and Kimi both gulped. There was no mistaking his words. Help me and I’ll help you, don’t and be stuck in this different time forever.
Kimi grabbed Sam’s arm and snorted.
“Hmpf, of course, we’ll do our part. We’ve fought it once before and pushed its ugly ass down a hole once, how hard can it be to capture that turd.”
Retsu rubbed his large chin with his antennais.
“You’d be surprised young lady. With the number of souls he currently has access to, he’ll come back stronger. Add to the fact that he didn’t go all out with you when he first encountered you all, he won’t make the same mistake. The same way you all studied him. playing back the battle in your minds looking for his weaknesses, he’s done the exact same. The next time we encounter Zetsu, the ensuing fight I’m afraid will be completely different from the one that came before.”
Kimi’s overconfidence was kicked down a few pegs and she couldn’t help but grip Sam’s arm a little tighter with worry. Sam pat her hand and smiled at her, causing her tense shoulders to ease a bit.
Asuna took all of this in.
(He’ll fight us differently, good. I as well have a few new tricks up my sleeve. Bring it you ugly worm.)
Nunully raised her hand like a child in a classroom. Retsu pointed a antennai at her as though he were calling on her.
“Um, you’ve yet to mention exactly how we’ll capture Zetsu. Last time we managed to wound him a few times but in the end, we couldn’t stop him when he wanted to leave. What do you propose we actually do to help you capture him.”
“I’m glad you asked half-elf.”
Nunully didn’t know how to feel constantly being called half-elf. Usually, when she was called this it was derogatory when it came from a human’s mouth but this was a god using it and he didn’t seem to mean it in a harmful way. Still, Nunully felt conflicted.
Retsu didn’t know the complicated thoughts Nunully’s mind was playing through and instead focused on the ground.
Twisting and turning his legs, Retsu drew a miniature Zetsu in the dirt as he explained.
“Zetsu and I have to use these downgraded bodies while we live in this realm. Because of this, our powers act slightly different in this realm as well. The first thing that must be done is to take away his power, not his power source. As you all know, the power source is the villager’s souls but what I’m talking about is his ability to use his own power in the first place and for that, we must remove two things from his body.”
Retsu’s antennais drew two x’s over Zetsu’s big eyes, marking them out.
“Once we have his eyes, his power is gone, after that, easy peasy.”
