To kill over a hundred people all at once, the options Kazuki had were limited but there was always the tried and true method.
Kazuki hid in the shadows of the cave and began to flash dozens of ancient hand signs. Power began to gather around Kazuki’s hands. Now all he had to do was wait for Retsu to control the fog and…
(Right on time.)
A greyish purple fog began to slowly fade into the chamber and rise up. It stretched itself like a cloud with a mind of its own and spread out in every direction.
Kazuki could see the sleeping Zetsu in the center of the chamber begin to twitch as though something was bothering him.
(Now’s the time!)
Kazuki had prepped his power beforehand and merely held it on standby. As soon as the fog filled the chamber, Kazuki willed his power forth.
A blue fireball almost the size of a golfball hovered above Kazuki’s palm. Kazuki raced forward and jumped toward the wall of people. The way they were stuck, the villagers were aligned with one another. Kazuki took aim for the most vulnerable spot and whipped his wrist in an odd fashion throwing the fireball with incredible speed.
The golf-sized ball of blue flame was perfectly on target and struck the first villager.
*Scshhh*
The flame entered the side of the villager’s neck and exited before one could even blink the eye. However, the damage done was clear for any to see. The flesh had been melted through like a candle, destroying any flesh and muscle in its way. The first villager’s head fell away from the body but because it was still attached to the spine, it dangled down loosely around the chest. Death was instantaneous.
This sight continued in quick succession. One after another a villager would be put out of their misery and entered the sweet embrace of death.
“NOOOOOOO MY FOOOOOOD!”
A strange roar erupted from the center of the chamber.
(This is Zetsu’s voice!)
Zetsu large plate-sized eyes had snapped open and glared death at Kazuki. Kazuki felt a chill run down his spine. If Retsu Gai sounded like a teasing old man then Zetsu’s voice was simply demonic. It sounded ghastly and sick mixed with power. It was as though at any moment the ground itself would open up from Zetsu’s command and your worst imaginings would drag you to your grave.
Zetsu was still stuck within the fog but he was now whipping his large body back and forth fighting an invisible foe.
Kazuki prepared to turn and run away. With his flame piercing neck after neck he was ready to dash out but before he could a problem he never even thought of occurred. His flame had torn through 50, 60 necks perfectly killing the ones in its path but after that, his flame actually began to flicker and then the worst thing happened.
His flame slowed drastically and crawled out of the last villager. Instead of this person dying instantly, they awoke and began to shriek in pain but as the flame made its way through their neck, the screams of agony became a death gurgle as blood filled their mouth and throat.
Finally, when Kazuki’s flame came out the other side of the villager’s neck, its power and speed were greatly reduced and instead of continuing to fly forward, its slowed momentum made it drop several inches and its new trajectory landed upon a villagers chest and bounced to a few more villagers lighting them all on fire. By this point, his flame was no longer a bright blue but a dull orange before it fell to the ground. After flickering for a few seconds, Kazuki’s blue flame had unbelievably gone out with a fizzle.
*Tsss*
Five villagers had been lit on fire and all awoke at once. Their screams filled the cave.
(How can this be?)
These people spasmed and writhed in agony. Their flesh blistered and melted away, sliding down the slanted rock wall they were attached to.
(No!)
Kazuki rushed forward with his sword drawn.
*Schink schink*
Kazuki wasted no time and stabbed them all in the heads or hearts.
Zetsu thrashed around even more.
“You fucking ant, how dare you take what’s mine!”
Kazuki was slightly rattled and could barely even hear Zetsu’s words.
(How did this happen, how could this have happened. Because of my attack, several innocent people suffered like that. I…I.)
A thought jumped into Kazuki’s mind. Looking at the surroundings, he didn’t know why he hadn’t noticed it before but now it made sense.
(Damp, humid, all the water leaking from the ceiling, the shit and piss piled up below, theirs far too much moisture in the air. How could I make such a simple mistake.)
“Don’t Ignore Me!”
Zetsu’s eyes lit up in a multitude of colors before he fired his soul attack at Kazuki.
Kazuki was still distracted but there was no way he would fall for this same attack again. Kazuki slammed his eyes shut in anger. There were still over 40 people left alive and Kazuki could tell the fog was already not as effective.
Kazuki gripped the sword tighter in his hand and raced forward.
(I’m sorry.)
These were his honest thoughts to the ones who suffered from his attack. Kazuki ran his blade across the necks of the remaining villagers, taking their heads from them and putting an end to their never-ending nightmare.
“NOOOOO!”
Zetsu thrashed about even harder and his tail end swung out towards Kazuki.
Kazuki jumped to the side as this heavy tail whipped passed him and crashed into the rock wall.
*Bang!*
A large slab of cave wall fell off and crashed into the ground below.
*Boom*
The ground shook from its impact.
(Time to leave!)
Kazuki had no time to think about what had gone wrong. Turning around he filled his body with ki and raced toward the exit. Zetsu though was not having it.
“Who gave you permission to leave!”
Zetsu rose his large body up before spinning like a top and striking the chamber walls with all of his might.
*BOOM!*
The cave began to collapse and boulders of all sizes rained down all around Kazuki.
Kazuki was about to sidestep one of the boulders when he recalled Retsu’s warning.
—————————————————————————-
No matter what run forward. While I and Zetsu wrestle for control over the fog you’ll be shifted about constantly. If I have to worry about you changing direction during all of this, things will not work out.
—————————————————————————-
Kazuki swallowed hard but still, he brought out his small shield just in case.
It wasn’t even a second later when a boulder came crashing down atop Kazuki. Kazuki didn’t stop his legs but he did raise his shield above him.
(Retsu mentioned nothing about deflecting things. This shouldn’t get in his way.)
The fog wrapped around Kazuki and just as Kazuki was starting to feel the weight of the boulder, the feeling was gone and the scenery in front of Kazuki completely changed.
(This is!?)
Kazuki found himself within the middle of the cave. He had run through here on his way to Zetsu’s lair. Retsu really was looking out for him.
Kazuki felt a sense of relief and his legs didn’t stop for even a moment.
(If he wants me to run forward then that’s exactly what I’ll do.)
Kazuki saw a large path before him and kept moving, however as soon as he took a single step in, the scenery in front of his eyes changed again. Kazuki found himself falling high from within the chamber as sudden weightlessness filled his stomach.
(What?)
Below him, Zetsu had his large mouth open as wide as possible with his razor-sharp teeth clicking together as they prepared to tear him to pieces.
Kazuki’s sword appeared in his hand and he prepared to counter but once more the scenery changed and Kazuki fell onto the ground. Looking around him, Zetsu was nowhere to be seen but somewhere far behind, Kazuki could hear enraged roars behind him.
“FINE IF THAT’S HOW YOU WISH TO PLAY IT RETSU THEN LET’S TRY THIS!”
Fog appeared above Kazuki and large boulders fell out from the ceiling.
Kazuki pushed off the ground and kicked the dirt below him, launching himself forward. The ground cracked and broke apart the spot he had just been laying at.
Kazuki felt the danger he was in and ran forward once more.
(Just run…I just have to keep running.)
This happened again and again and again. Kazuki ran forward only to be teleported right in front of Zetsu, on the verge of being eaten or crushed from boulders. Just before death could touch him though, Retsu had already shifted him and moved him someplace further away. Zetsu didn’t like that and started making boulder after boulder rain down in every part of the cave. This lasted for hours. If Kazuki didn’t have such a large amount of stamina or ki, his legs would have failed him long ago.
Zetsu could see that he wasn’t going to win and finally gave chase.
“COME BACK HERE BOY!”
Kazuki had no time to worry about that but as soon as Zetsu’s words rang out, a wall appeared in front of Kazuki but Kazuki didn’t hesitate to run straight into it. Just as his flesh touched the rock wall, the scenery changed one final time.
Kazuki found himself right outside of the cave. Asuna and the others were already waiting for him.
Nunully ran over worriedly and wrapped her hand in a glove of water.
“Let me heal you.”
Kazuki’s entire body from head to toe was covered in scratches and light bruises. After running through the cave for hours, every now and then he would get a nick or scratch from flying debris. After going through that hundreds of times, his body was now covered in small wounds. Nothing too bad but Nunully and the others seeing it assumed it was a lot worse than it actually was.
Shin walked over and laughed.
“Haha, you got my sword?”
Kazuki was in no mood for a laugh and just threw it over. Shin caught it and saw the blade soaked with blood and realized what it was from. No more words left his mouth.
*Roarrrrrrrrrr!*
A demonic roar came from the cave.
