The clan heads smile was wide.
“Yes, if their strength is as you say then raising their souls to that level should be no problem at all…”
The clan heads words trailed off into a whisper as he stared oddly at Kazuki. He wasn’t paying attention to these lowly mortals before but his son Retsu made him curious about them. He could sense something strange emanating from an object Kazuki wore. He was about to ask his son what it was when Retsu noticed his stare and changed the subject.
“Clan head, should I send him back now or are we waiting on something?”
The him being referred to was of course Zetsu. The clan head found his son’s actions suspicious but there was obviously a reason he changed the subject. The clan head nodded and put things to the side for later.
“Right.”
The antenna on the clan head’s head twitched momentarily and something heavy akin to solid rock was heard scraping against the ground outside the view of the mirror. Something slowly came into the reflection. Several humanoid bugs wearing actual armor, appearing to be soldiers walked in. Each of them had their helmets off but had similar faces compared to the Clan head. Out of the sides of the armor, extra arms stuck out. In their grasp, they carried two humanoid bugs behind them. Dropping one of the bug men unkindly to the floor, the creature fell to the ground unmoving.
The second one they carried in with much greater respect and laid him down gently, unharmed.
A bug man wearing a simple robe approached from the side and bowed deeply to the Clan head.
“Master, we’ve brought the young masters bodies.”
The Clan head saw the two bodies and sighed. One son was the epitome of disappointment and a disgrace to everything the Clan head stood for. While the other one was only average in the way of life. The Clan head wondered how and where he had gone so wrong in raising them. Even when he saw his soldiers handle his failure of a son roughly, he couldn’t be mad at them, that’s just how disappointing he was.
“Retsu, can you handle your brother’s transfer or shall I take over for you?”
Retsu laughed embarrassingly and rubbed his head with his antenna.
“Hahaha, sorry could you. I used a bit too much energy in this realm and I haven’t had a decent meal all this while.”
Kimi and a few others took a slight step back knowing full well about what these overgrown centipedes considered meals.
The Clan head gave a nod and he spoke to the simple robed bug man at his side.
“Did you bring it?”
The bug man at his side waved a hand and a yellow object appeared in his bug hand. presenting it toward the Clan head, he said.
“Master, shall I go ahead and place it on the young master?”
The clan head gave a nod and the simply clothed bug man went to work. His antenna waved about in the air and the yellow object slowly floated in front of the collapsed body on the ground. The simply clothed bug man smiled viciously as he spoke to the soldiers.
“Lift him.”
The soldiers did as we’re told and lifted the one they handled unkindly to his knees. The yellow object floated over and the sound of metal unclasping and clinking was heard. The yellow object opened up like two half circles before it wrapped around the unconscious bug man’s neck. Clasping back together a sound similar to a key being turned was heard and the yellow object secured itself in place.
*Chk*
As soon as the object clinked into place a metallic ring rang out and several lines of the ancient language lit up around the yellow object. The inscriptions were set.
Stepping away from the unconscious bug man the simply clothed bugman turned and a grateful smile replaced his vicious one. Bowing once more to the Clan head the bug man said.
“Master, the slave collar is locked. The young master is ready to be summoned at your discretion.”
The Clan head turned back to the liquid mirror.
“Son, step aside.”
Retsu understood right away and moved a bit back near Kazuki and the others. His frame was large though and so everyone decided to back away. Everyone that is besides Asuna.
It was only now at this time that Kazuki noticed Asuna had her eyes close. A single hand of hers was stretched outward towards the portal as though she were trying to reach out and grab it. Kazuki didn’t get what she was doing at first but the way she seemed to be concentrating with all of her being, it clicked in his head.
(She must be gaining more insights. Of course, being around something as complex as a portal made of fused space and time, her mind must be reeling from all of this. For someone of her level, this portal must be like a gold mine.)
Kazuki decided not to back away and stood next to Asuna to make sure she wasn’t disturbed.
(The strength she gains will help me. If only a little more, it will still be worth it.)
The clan head stood close to the mirror and he shut his eyes. The antenna atop his head began to twitch violently. A moment later his eyes opened and glowed much brighter then Retsu’s and Zetsu’s ever did. The light was so brilliant that between the three of them, the son’s clearly was nowhere near their father’s level, whatever level that was.
A concentration of light built up in the Can heads eyes before he fired it into the portal.
“Go!”
The light shot forth and entered the portal and like a 3d movie it came before everyone threatening to slam into them. The shot of light though strangely curved at the last moment and found Zetsu’s limp body.
*Fwoosh*
Before their very eyes, the light that had just smashed into Zetsu’s body just as quickly flew back out and into the portal. The light appeared on the other side of the portal and landed into the unconscious bug man with the newly attached yellow collar.
As soon as the light hit this unconscious bug man, his eyes shot open and he took a huge breath.
*Huff puff huff*
His eyes darted all around the room and when his eyes found the portal and then his father, a terrible fear welled up within him. The bug man jumped to his feet and tried to fly away before he could though a soldier appeared in front of him.
“OUT OF MY WAY YOU WORM!”
The bug man gathered power into his fist and threw a punch.
*Bam*
The punch landed directly into the soldier’s face but the expected reaction didn’t occur. There was no explosion and the soldier didn’t get obliterated right there and then.
It was at this time that the bug man noticed his power had been drained into an object around his neck. A sudden realization of horror kicked in but before the bug man could even grab at the collar around his neck in defiance, a red light lit up around the collar.
*Tzzzt*
Red lightning encircled the collar and spread out rapidly sending shocks up and down the bug man. Pain like none other rippled through his body, threatening to melt all of his cells. The lightning burned through his muscles and fried his nerves. Scorch marks stretched over his body almost instantly and the wings on his back trembled and robbed him of his flight.
*Bang*
Crashing into the floor stole the air directly from his lungs but compared to the anguish from the red lightning, not breathing was a cakewalk.
The bug man seeing that he could not escape from his father wanted to beg for mercy but before he got the chance to even open his mouth, the Clan head vanished and reappeared before him. His speed was so swift that Kazuki and the others couldn’t keep up with their eyes. They weren’t even sure if it was speed or teleportation, that’s how quick he moved.
The Clan head picked the bug man up with one of his four arms as though he were a rag doll.
*Smack!*
The Clan head gave his son a backhand, not wanting to hear a single excuse.
“You lowly filth of a son. Do you know what you’ve done! Can you even begin to comprehend what you’ve done to my reputation with your actions? Do you wish to be a worm, no do you wish to be the food of worms? I ought to kill you, I would kill you right here and now if I didn’t promise your mother. Even as she was on her last breath, she still was thinking of you, she wasted her final words on you and how do you return her good faith?”
*Smack slap slap*
The clan head began to repeatedly slap the shit out of his son. At one point his son actually raised a hand to block his father’s attacks. The Clan head only became more angered and tore 3 of his arms off in anger.
Eventually, he threw his disappointment into a wall and ordered some of his followers to take him away and lock him in his room.
Sitting back down on his throne, the Clan head breathed out a heavy sigh.
*Haaa*
“Retsu, do you need me to transfer you as well?”
Retsu laughed shaking his head but Kazuki could detect fear in his voice.
“Haha, no Clan head, I can still move my self. For now, I just need a moment to reward these mortals and I’ll be on my way.”
The Clan head nodded and said nothing more. A moment later someone served him a drink of some kind and he simply sipped at it while watching over Retsu.
“Everyone, I suppose you’ve waited long enough, let’s do this, shall we.”
Everyone except for Asuna swallowed dryly. Not because of Retsu but instead, it was the way his father sat there calmly sipping a drink after brutally dismembering his own son. They didn’t have sympathy for Zetsu, no but they wondered how a father could do that to a son. This led them to wonder if this bug man sitting on the throne is the reason Zetsu became the way he is. None could look him in the eye and Focused on Retsu instead. It was at this moment that Asuna finally opened her eyes.
*Phew*
Looking around she saw the weird look everyone had and asked.
“Hmm, what did I miss?”
