Kazuki waved her questions away for now.
“I’ll explain later.”
A question mark floated above Asuna’s head.
“Why, I was only out of it for a minute or two, what could have happened?”
Kazuki’s eyes unintentionally met the Clan heads on the other side of the portal and he quickly looked away.
“Nothing really happened, just wait til later alright.”
Asuna rolled her eyes at Kazuki and was about to ask Kimi but even Kimi turned her down. Asuna finally took a hint from the weird atmosphere and went quiet.
Retsu as well was getting tired of the invisible pressure his father seemed to place on him with just a look and said.
“Ok let’s get this over with, I have places to be as you can see.”
Retsu’s eyes began to glow brightly.
“I can only do this one by one. The process is simple, first, one of you will step up and with my soul manipulation, I will suspend your soul from this time. After that, I will expand it naturally by both speeding up your soul’s timeline or age as well as feeding it some of my own power. With my god power as a source for your soul, it will not only grow faster but also evolve or upgrade as you will.”
Retsu could see some of the apprehension around him and he did his best to ease their fears.
“Don’t worry, this in no way can harm you and instead can only lead to benefits. With this reward, not only will you step into the next stage with no work at all, the level of the comprehension of your own elements will increase dramatically. Some of you may even notice a slight physical change right away due to your element.”
Retsu eyed Sam after he said that.
Kazuki’s curiosity grew and he wondered how this all would have affected him had he not had his Mage core stolen so long ago.
Kazuki took a step forward.
“Guess I’ll go first.”
He said this to set their minds at ease but it was also so he could hurry up and upgrade his Beast core. He had waited so long and now it was time to finally acquire the last and final ingredient he needed to reforge his Mage core.
Kazuki stepped up and Retsu, in turn, got what he was trying to do. Retsu extended his antenna. One touching Kazuki’s forehead while the other touched his storage ring. From behind Kazuki, the others couldn’t see this antenna placement and watched on unaware. Power gathered into Retsu’s antenna and the glow from his eyes dimmed a bit. The power extended outward from the tip of his antenna and rippled like a rock falling into a lake.
Kazuki wondered if he needed to pull out the Beast core from his storage ring but Retsu’s power fell into Kazuki’s storage ring before he made a move. Kazuki at first found this to be incredible. It wasn’t supposed to be possible for a creature or person to invade someone else’s storage item but Retsu did it with ease.
(It must be because he’s a god. What am I thinkings, of course, its because he’s a god. Even in a mortal body like that, he can still do something like this, insane.)
Retsu found the Beast core easily and his power wrapped around it. The Beast core he had gotten from one of the Mangshi started to pulse with energy. Not only that, but the soul within the Beast core also seemed to become both restless and angered.
Retsu snorted inwardly and suppressed it. With a flex of his power, the Mangshi soul inside cowered in fear and folded under the pressure, not daring to go wild in fear. Even though the soul inside could no longer think, it still somehow understood the might of this outside force and calmed down.
Retsu took his antenna away and said matter of factly.
“Ok done, next.”
Kazuki was like what.
“Huh, that’s it?”
Retsu nodded before whispering just low enough that even with their enhanced hearing Asuna and the others couldn’t hear him.
“Boy, check your storage ring before you complain.”
Kazuki did just that and found the Tier 2 Magical Beast core. His eyes blinked before he walked back with the others.
(It was only a few seconds but he actually turned a tier 1 beast core into a tier 2 as though it were nothing. I finally have the last ingredient.)
Kazuki was lost in thought before Danny’s voice cracked.
“Well!, How do you feel, what’s different?”
Kazuki was snapped out of his thoughts but couldn’t come up with anything to say and just stared at Danny in silence. Danny scrunched his brows.
“What did it not work?”
Shin saw things differently though and pushed past everyone and stood in front of Retsu.
“Can’t you see the stunned expression on his face. It’s obvious that his power has increased ad he’s lost for words. Hey big guy, if what do you say, can I go next?”
Retsu nodded before his eyes lit up once more.
Shin began to grin.
(Alice was a 3rd stage Mage. At that level, she was capable of flight and could rip trees from the ground and throw them with the wind. I as well can use the element of wind, so everything she could do I should be able to do the same and more.)
Retsu repeated the process but this time both of his antenna touched a few inches below Shin’s solar plexus and a few inches above his belly button. Retsu’s power fell into Shin’s soul and suspended it in time. Then he did something he didn’t say he was going to do. He truly did speed it up and help it expand but that would not allow a person to actually step into the next stage. Manipulating the soul would not lead to growth of power but it would help one comprehend the elements.
Mortals and gods were different. Gods Used souls as power or other things, while mortal beings used Mage cores or Beast cores along with the power of the elements themselves as power sources. Retsu’s power sunk further and further into Shin’s soul, all the way to it’s very center until it found what it was looking for. An intangible source flowed with energy within Shin. Its color was a bright white and it swirled about back and forth. Retsu looked at it for a moment.
(Ah, that’s right, this boy uses the element of wind. So this is what his Mage core looks like.)
Retsu had indeed located Shin’s Mage core. Retsu severed a small portion of his godly power and Shin’s Mage core became agitated. Slowly, small tendrils of energy prodded and poked Retsu’s severed energy with curiosity and interest. A fraction of his energy was absorbed by the Mage core and the Mage core seemed as though it were delighted. The tendrils grabbed the rest of the severed energy and devoured it greedily. Shin’s Mage core began to change at that very moment.
The Mage core itself swelled and grew several times over and the energy around it became slightly purer. The energy around it moved faster and flowed more naturally. The white light glowing around it brightened by another level and expanded just a bit more. Retsu nodded within at his handy work.
(Nice and easy. Mortals love godly power but there so weak. Too much of my power and they tend to pop like a ballooned frog. If they only learn to use their souls properly and get rid of this stupid fused Mage core, the power they would gain would easily eclipse this small realm. Too bad mortals are fools. I have to go about this in a roundabout way because their minds are too simple. Well maybe that Ryuta boy would get it, nah, maybe not.)
All of this happened in only 3 or 4 seconds before Retsu’s eyes dimmed and he pulled his antenna away. Shin immediately felt different and looked down at himself in wonder. The power he felt coursing in his Mage core caused him to shake and tremble in excitement. With only a slight thought, he felt the wind gather around his body with almost no effort. Closing his eyes for a moment a thought popped into his head
(How did Alice do it.)
Shin’s thoughts drifted and he imagined Alice’s power. He remembered how she gathered wind beneath her feet and dispersed her weight. Pushing it down below her, her body rose above the clouds.
Shin only thought about it for a moment before Danny’s shout entered his ear.
“Shin! How…how are you doing that!?”
Shin opened his eyes annoyed at Danny. He was lost in thought and felt he was on the verge of something. As soon as his eyes opened though he involuntarily released an odd sound in surprise.
“Gah!”
Shin slowly hovered in the air. Looking down he was almost 50 feet in the air. He was for all intents and purposes flying. As soon as he realized this though, his power that flowed naturally shot out in all directions and he lost his balance. He began to flail his arms about almost in a panic before the wind beneath him, like a plug being pulled, cut the power.
Shin fell out of nowhere but he had fallen many times before out of the sky and his instincts directed him.
“Viper Whip!”
Just before he hit the ground he sent kicked the air with power.
*Fwoohm*
With this small kick, Shin flew 200, 300, 400 feet up in one go. What should have softened his landing, instead, shot him nearly to the ceiling of the cave. Shin and everyone else’s eyes went wide at the sight of this. Even the Clan head in on the other side of the portal tilted his head in confusion. Not only this but the ground he kicked away from had a deep gash from the wind blades they flew out. The ground was dug out and a large part of it was carved away, creating a ditch stretching 10 feet long and several feet deep. Shin’s small kick had carved up stone as though it were butter.
“Son, what is wrong with that mortal?”
Retsu turned back to his father and laughed nervously.
“Hehehe, his mortal body is not used to this kind of power. You see this is another reason why we can’t use them. They can’t even handle themselves properly after a small gain in power.”
The Clan head sipped his drink and nodded in agreement, regretting that he offered these mortals to serve his great clan in the first place.
Retsu stretched up into the sky and snatched Shin out of the air and set him down on the ground.
“Maybe you should wait until your out of the cave and theirs more space, how about it?”
Shin scratched the back of his head and laughed embarrassingly.
“Hahaha, right.”
He was too excited and his body was now brimming with energy. Kazuki envied Shin’s newfound power.
(Seeing the difference between the 2nd stage and the 3rd is like night and day.)
Kazuki clasped his hand into a fist. He too could no longer relax.
(Soon, soon I will regain my power.)
