The after images of the two flowed like haze on a hot summer day. Kazuki could barely keep up with their movement as he watched from up above.
*Bang*
The two separated from the force of their blows. Kai’s size didn’t seem to define the force he could use. So although he appeared to be a child, his strength was well above that. Still, the ugly beast held a clear advantage in this, as Kai was pushed back much further than the beast was.
(This isn’t good. I thought I could beat this thing with ease but it being fused must have enhanced its strength quite a bit. Could this be similar to…)
Kai’s thoughts came to the same conclusion.
“Kazuki, this thing’s strength is a lot more than it should be. When it fused together it got some type of boost to its strength, in a similar way, that our sister’s strength grew.”
Kazuki was feeling a sense of urgency. He didn’t expect such an outcome. He thought the beast’s soul fragments would end up fighting one another and destroying each other. At the very least he assumed they would weaken each other greatly. After that, he would use the Stazar Void rocks energy to lock them in place before teleporting them out of his soul world. With no vessel, Kazuki theorized the soul fragments would naturally dissipate into the world and the universe beyond.
Looking at the tiger beast’s movements, that seemed like an impossibility now. As long as the beast moved about, Kazuki had no way to trap it with Stazar Void energy.
“Brother, can you halt its movements?”
Kai and the beast reengaged before knocking each other back once more. Kai kept his eyes on the beast at all times but shouted at Kazuki in reply.
“What!”
“I said can you keep it still!?”
“Hmpf, If I can, does that mean you actually have a plan?”
“Of course, I think, it should work.”
Kai rolled his eyes.
“How long do you need him still for?”
Kazuki ran some calculations in his head.
(The time in here compared to out there seems to depend on some factors that I’m not quite familiar with but it should be…)
“1 second technically but to get to that point, I’ll need nine…ten minutes tops, maybe, to get things ready.”
Kai deflected a taloned foot away from his face before countering with a kick into the beast’s chest. The kick did little and the beast deformed arm on its side reached around and grabbed at Kai’s neck. The branch in his hand changed angles with the flick of his wrist and batted the humanish looking hand backward. The two separated once more.
Kai’s focus was on the battle but he still responded with a…
“What the fuck! This thing doesn’t seem to be growing tired at all but do you think I can reside in someone else’s soul world without using something. This fight is a heavy burden on me. Can’t you shorten the time down for your dear older brother?”
Kazuki could see that even though his brother was serious, he was still relatively calm and chuckled to himself.
“Well you see, my brother is a genius, he says so of himself quite often. I’m sure he can handle ten minutes, right?”
Kai’s brows scrunched but then he smiled.
“Heh, you little bastard. Fine, just make sure you don’t keep me waiting even a moment later, otherwise, every time you step into this place, I’ll be here waiting to kick your ass.”
Kazuki nodded.
“Right, see ya.”
Kazuki shut his eyes and vanished from his soul world.
Kai, on the other hand, twisted the branch in his hand.
“It seems I’ll have to get a little serious.”
A small whisper escaped from Kai as his attituded changed completely.
“1st form…Blade of Wind…Howl for me!”
—————————————————————————-
Kazuki’s eyes reopened and he was still sitting in a meditative position with his legs crossed, unmoved.
Kazuki still had a few energies floating in spheres of ki near him. He quickly put everything unneeded away and could only dissipate the energies he could no longer use with a bit of regret.
Kazuki held the Stazar Void rock in one hand, in the other, he held his compass. Examing it for a moment he wondered what it really was. How it guided him with such accuracy. Retsu had told him it held a godly aura around it. Kazuki had sensed strange energy flowing from it at a steady rate ever since he learned how to harness and manipulate ki energy from granny Master Maya.
He never knew what kind of energy it was until Retsu informed him. He still was ignorant of the aura surrounding his compass but one thing he knew for sure, he felt pressure from it. A real suppression of some kind, that he could feel deep within.
One of the reasons he needed to reforge his Mage core was so he could hide the aura from the compass but in order to do that he needed to use the aura from said compass. Kazuki was originally going to use this aura to suppress the beast fragment within the beast core until he could take over himself but little did he know, the beast fragment soul itself would come out from the beast core and fight.
The plan barely changed from there. Whether the beast fragment soul was in the Beast core or running wild in Kazuki’s soul world, it didn’t change the fact that Kazuki would use the aura from his compass to suppress it.
Kazuki activated the Stazar Void rock and siphoned its excess purple energy from it into a separate sphere of ki. After that, he began flashing several ancient hand signs. Very quickly energy gathered near his hands and several golden symbols of the ancient language floated in front of him. Pointing at the compass in front of him he commanded the symbols forward.
*Tzzt tzzt*
“What happened?”
The ancient symbols bounced off of the compass uselessly and turned into small sparks of electricity before dissipating into nothingness. Kazuki quickly tried again but once more.
*Tzzzt tzzt*
The same thing as before played out in front of him. The golden symbols bounced away as though there was a barrier of some kind surrounding the compass before they disappeared.
(My symbols, they don’t work?)
Kazuki got a terrible feeling in the pit of his stomach.
(No, there’s always another way.)
Kazuki bit the tip of his thumb and a few drops of blood began to drip. Kazuki swiftly wrote dozens of ancient symbols all around his compass. As soon as he finished the last symbol, the ancient language began to glow with a bright golden light.
Kazuki felt a sense of relief but right as the written ancient language glowed every symbol broke like shattered glass and faded away in bright particles of light.
Kazuki’s body trembled.
(This…this can’t be.)
Kazuki ripped a bit of his sleeve and rewrote the ancient language down on the torn cloth with his blood. Wrapping the makeshift talisman around the compass, the symbols glowed once more before the cloth itself went up in flame and turned to ash in seconds. With a blow from the wind, the ashes went with it.
(No, this isn’t…NO!)
Kazuki balled both his fist up and struck at the ice below him in fury and madness.
*Bam!*
“NO! I refuse to believe…I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING!”
Kazuki’s anger took hold of him and he repeatedly slammed his fist down into the ice like two large hammers. Cracks spread all around him like a spider’s web but Kazuki didn’t care. Eventually, he broke the ice beneath him and fell in. The freezing cold waters were painful but it didn’t compare to the pain he felt inside.
(I can’t siphon the aura and bring it into my soul world if the ancient language doesn’t work. How can it fail me? Up to this point, it’s done everything I needed it to do but it won’t work on the compass.)
Kazuki began to sink to the bottom of the lake, his thoughts uncertain.
(A god’s aura, how does one use it? What is a god’s power?)
Kazuki fell to the very bottom of the lake but he didn’t care at this moment.
(How can gods even be real in this world? Such a being actually exists and this compass is covered in one’s aura. An aura that never dissipates and even seems to grow stronger when the compass is used but what good is that if I can’t…)
Kazuki’s thoughts froze in place as a realization came upon him.
(The aura grows stronger when the compass is used. Maybe if I feed it enough energy and use the compass, the aura will strengthen and I can steal the scraps. Just a tiny amount, I just need a small insignificant amount to take into my soul world. This…this might work.)
Kazuki smiled beneath the lake and only now noticed his surroundings. He now felt that the supply of oxygen in his lungs was insufficient and kicked off the bottom of the lake. Racing through the waters he gained speed and broke out from the lake.
He had no time to worry about the cold or the numb sensation he felt all over. Kazuki emptied his storage ring of any and all items that held energy. The last of his Beast cores and the remaining Nexar crystals fell out in front of him. Picking up one of the Nexar crystals, Kazuki didn’t have to wait for even a moment to pass before the compass began to consume the energy within the Nexar crystal at a rapid rate. Right away he could feel the strange aura surrounding his golden compass increase by a good amount.
(Yes, this will work.)
Kazuki’s eyes glowed with a renewed yet desperate hope.
(It has to work, it has to.)
