A large rock, several times bigger than a house came crashing down from the sky above.
*Bang!*
A building in the way was obliterated but it wasn’t over with just that. The chunk of rock had such momentum that it rolled forward, crashing through anything in its path.
*Boom Boom Bam Boom!*
Building after building came tumbling down. The sound of rock crushing stone rumbled like thunder echoing through the city. The buildings shattering into pieces exploded out to the sides and rained down debris killing like a scythe over wheat during the spring harvest. The rock traveled for several blocks before its speed gradually slowed. Only when 9 city blocks were turned to rubble did the rock lose its momentum and come to a grinding halt.
Screams of pain and horror were a constant following this, as many called out desperately for loved ones. With all the smoke from the rubble, it was impossible to see the true destruction that had just taken place. Only when a few Mages arrived and blew the smoky dust away, did the true picture unfold.
The smell of rubble and iron thick blood filled the senses, causing one to want to vomit. Bodies of what was left were strewn about, turned into something akin to meat paste, or merely splotches on the ground.
“Help me! Someone please save me!”
“Mama, Mama!”
More and more Mages and soldiers arrived on the scene and they could hear the cries of people who somehow managed to survive and were buried beneath the rubble. They quickly jumped into action and began willing their power forth.
“Quickly, we have to save them!”
A Mage shouted this and they all went into to action.
A glow lit up at the end of a Mages staff. A pale green light appeared and a large piece of the house slowly began to lift upward.
“Quickly! I can’t hold this for long.”
Several soldiers rushed over. Some of them had a faint glow from inscription tattoos on their body and some did not. However, they all bravely raced underneath the floating piece of house and helped lift it and push it away.
One of the soldiers lowered his gaze and found a woman kneeling over something protecting it as though it were the most precious object in the world.
“Its ok miss, you’re safe now.”
The soldier’s words were met with no reply and the grim realization told him and the others why. The woman, she was dead. A large gash ran alongside her head and she had bled out already.
The men felt bitter and regret.
“We were to slow.”
*Waa waa*
The soldiers heard a sudden cry coming from the woman, no coming from underneath her?
The soldiers quickly and carefully removed the woman and found a baby clutched tightly in her arms. The baby was perfectly fine because of the mother’s sacrifice. The soldier held the baby in his arms and felt hatred boil within him.
(What cruel monster could have caused such destruction?)
Several similar scenes like this played out over the destroyed 9 blocks while most of the rest of the city was in a state of panic. Even with the public seeing the soldiers and Mages running about, even with this show of force, none of them felt safe.
Kazuki couldn’t see the destruction from where he stayed but from the window, he could see a few plumes of smoke rising in the distance.
Nunully was almost trembling seeing this. Tsura as well had a grim expression upon her face. Mei didn’t know what was going on but from everyone’s serious expression she could tell that this was no game and something bad was happening.
Kazuki opened the window and the sound of the screams seemed to increase three-fold. With a sniff of the air, Kazuki furrowed his brows.
(The air is rich with the smell of iron. How many people had to have died to make the smell so thick?)
Mei as well smelled the air and noticed the bloody scent carried on the wind.
“Mama, so many are hurt.”
Tsura couldn’t help but hold Mei tightly in her arms.
“Mama…Is this our fault?”
Tsura’s eyes widened but she couldn’t form any words. She just continued to hug Mei tighter.
“No, we are not the cause.”
Kazuki turned around and said seriously.
“This is none of our faults. How can it be? Did we ask to be chased down by an insane monster? Did we do anything to deserve this? No, when it comes to evil people and creatures you can’t blame the innocent. We did nothing wrong but it doesn’t mean we can sit idle. This attack of hers has given us an advantage.”
Nunully couldn’t take the loud screams anymore and had to shut the window for her own state of mind. Turning around she asked.
“How does this give us the advantage?”
“She clearly wants me dead. Her first and foremost goal is this compass and the second is my neck. Yet instead of coming in here and taking it from me, and separating my head from my shoulders, she throws a rock into the city. Tell me, if she knew where I was, why would she go through all of the theatrics. She knows I’m in the city but not where, so she can’t seem to narrow in on me perfectly. Not only that she threatened me with my friends. I don’t know if she really has them or not but most likely she does.”
“Why do you say that?”
“It again comes down to the fact that Reya doesn’t know my exact location. If she did again she would simply come and take my life, there’s no need to mention my friends and try to drag me out with this unless she’s telling the truth.”
“But that doesn’t mean for a fact that she’s telling the truth, does it?”
Kazuki shook his head.
“No, but I still think she isn’t lying about them.”
“How can you be so sure?”
Nunully was getting frustrated at this point. She wanted nothing more than to run away with all her might but at the same time, she would not abandon Kazuki.
“I can’t be 100 percent sure but think about it. If she’s lying about it, and I think its some kind of trap, she knows I’ll throw this compass away. I don’t think my sisters told her much about this and she probably doesn’t know that I can’t destroy it with my strength but that can be another threat. I also have my blue flame, she might think I’ll melt it. If she sees Mei and Tsura with me, I can also give it to you two. I’ve seen her speed on both the air and ground, she can keep up on the ground but in the air you two would leave her in the dust. By simply flying out of sight, she would have no way of finding you two, and the compass is lost to her forever. She knows that the compass isn’t hers just because we meet. She knows she’ll need something else in order to get my compass from me. She probably believes that Asuna and the others hold a place in my heart.”
Kazuki went quiet after that last sentence and Nunully couldn’t help but ask curiously.
“And do they still have a place in your heart or did they ever have a place in there?”
Kazuki didn’t say anything for a while. Nunully took a step forward and stood in front of him.
“I think you care…Why else would you mention Asuna first and foremost? At least her, you think about her right? A woman can tell these things you know so don’t lie.”
*Haaa*
“I do, think about them…sometimes. They…”
Kazuki shook his head.
“They all hate me though. It’s better that way though, they’re better…”
Nunully interrupted him.
“Don’t say they’re better off, especially if you believe that Reya actually has them. If that’s true, they must be suffering unimaginably. If you care about them, if you really do then you know what has to be done. We have to go save them.”
Nunully looked at Tsura and Mei. Mei immediately began to nod her head up and down repeatedly.
“I want to see big sis Asuna and big sis Kimi. Kimi must be really sad without her arm. I want to help them. Mama, what are we gonna do.”
Tsura wavered. She began to think of a certain someone.
(Danny, are you safe?)
Tsura squeezed Mei’s hand.
“I want to see them too.”
Kazuki thought about the way things were left between the two groups. Asuna and the others obviously hated him but he held no hatred at all for them. The time they spent together, the life and death dangers they faced together, the ups and downs, Kazuki couldn’t hate them. Not for the way they acted when they found out who he really was, nor how they felt towards him. He thought they would have easily been able to escape. With Muteki and his entire squad killed, it should have only been Reya after him.
(Damn, after I reforged my Mage core and began to siphon the excess godly aura from my compass, I thought this would cut Reya off completely and I guess it did because she became desperate enough o take Asuna and the others. She took them because of me.)
Kazuki believed in what he said earlier. He didn’t think anyone but Reya and his sister was to blame for the current situation but that might not be entirely true. He wondered if he could have prevented all of this shit in the first place if he had just come forth with his identity earlier or even before they had left Tresta. He didn’t want to accept blame for all of the bad shit that happened but in his heart, he knew he held some responsibility and it ate away at him.
Kazuki couldn’t stand this feeling scratching at the back of his mind and it forced him to come to a decision.
“Tsura, if we’re going to help, I’m gonna need to borrow some money.”
