*Schink!*
A blade made from dark energy slashed downward and severed Reya’s arm in one strike.
Purplish black blood came spraying out from her wound and with the fall of her arm, Danny was released from her grasp. Degra turned his blade and swept it toward Reya’s neck. At the same time, his eyes flashed and Reya’s movements slowed.
Reya’s hand that was still attached grabbed Degra’s hand and caught him before he could finish his slashing motion. Degra yelled out.
“Kazuki hurry up!”
Nunully slapped her wall of ice with the end of her staff and the entire thing flew forward at Reya.
“Not good enough!”
Reya shouted with fury and kicked at the wall of ice in front of her, shattering it in a single blow. Her confidence overflowing caused her to ignore what was right in front of her. As soon as the wall of ice shattered, it revealed Kazuki’s form racing toward her, a glove of blue flames wrapped around his hand.
(Shit!)
Reya was forced to release Degra and try and block Kazuki’s flaming hand. She wanted to dodge this blow with her all but her feet were too slow. Even trying to form fleshy spikes were taking far too long to form. Degra’s power was playing its part.
Kazuki’s hand raced forward and appeared in front of Reya in a blink. Reya’s clawed hand, even with her reduced speed had managed to come up to block Kazuki’s strike.
*Shhhhishh*
Kazuki’s hand met Reya’s and the blue flames melted through her clawed hand almost instantly. Her hand became a stub and before her purplish-black blood could form a puddle beneath her, Kazuki had already reached out and grabbed her neck.
“DIE!”
Kazuki roared out and was just about to touch her neck. He was so close that the heat from his flames was already leaving burn marks upon Reya’s skin.
*FWOOOSH!*
Just as he was about to grasp her neck, Reya had brought out both of her wings and flapped them as though her life depended on it. The force from this wind wasn’t enough to extinguish Kazuki’s flames but Reya wasn’t aiming for that.
The powerful gush of wind stopped Kazuki mid dash and forced him to slide backward several feet.
Kazuki took his opposite hand and stabbed it down into the ground like a spike, stopping his backward movement in one go. Reya flew backward as fast as she could, though with Degra’s eye on her she was visibly slower.
His feet now planted properly, Kazuki aimed his body at Reya and kicked off the ground with his full force, shattering the ground beneath him.
“You can’t escape!”
(Shit shit shit!)
Reya changed direction and headed for Sam and the others. They were still recovering from when she had thrown them back with her fleshy spikes.
She was just about to reach Sam when another wall of ice formed between her and him.
Nunully stamped her staff into the ground and several spears of ice shot out in front of Reya all at once. Reya was stabbed a few times and she had to change direction once more.
“I won’t let you touch any of them ever again.”
Nunully almost roared these words in a declaration of sorts. At the same time, Kazuki had caught up to Reya from behind. His hand extending out toward her with blue flames he grabbed her neck. The blue flames did their work. One inch, two inches through. A fraction of a second more and Kazuki would sever her head entirely. It was at this exact moment that Kazuki felt death scream inside his head and he instinctually pulled back at his fastest speed.
*Swoosh*
Something stabbed down from high up above and separated Kazuki and Reya at the final moment.
Degra called out.
“Damn, we’re too late!”
Kazuki jumped to Nunully’s side, grabbed her by the waist, and leaped near Asuna and the others.
The thing that pierced the ground between the two rose up slowly into the air. It was a silver-white trident. Degra made his way to Kazuki’s side and Tsura and Mei grouped up with them as well. Kazuki and Asuna looked at one another for a moment. Neither said anything to the other. Asuna looked as though she had many things to discuss but Kazuki stopped her before she even started.
Raising a hand in the air his ring flashed and several items fell out all at once.
“I’m sure your still pissed and have things to discuss but it can wait for afterward. That is if we make it out alive.”
Kazuki flicked a magic ring to everyone and handed everyone their equip[ment he bought them. Seeing all of this, words weren’t necessary at the moment and they all grabbed and equipped a sword or a staff. Sam picked up a large Warhammer and a small smile appeared on his face.
At the same time, Reya sighed in relief. Her life was over at that moment but surprisingly someone actually saved her. She followed the trident with her eyes and couldn’t believe who it was.
The trident landed in a tall blonde woman’s hands.
Degra glared at her.
“For some reason, I thought you’d wait until Thakriss was with you. Do you not know how to ambush properly or did you just get a little too excited seeing me in action?”
Triska floated high up in the air, as though she were celestial. Covered in her silver armor with her silver-white trident in her grasp, the image no doubt sent chills down their collective spines. Triska ignored Degra for a moment and spoke with a loud booming voice that threatened to part the sky.
“Woman. You and I have done combat once before and you should understand full well that you are not a match for me.”
Reya’s body was quickly regenerating at this time. She bit her lip in frustration hearing Triska’s words but she didn’t understand the situation just yet and didn’t know whether she should just flee or wait. The woman floating in the air above her truly was better than her. With Kazuki here as well as his new friend that could slow her, Reya felt the odds stacked against her.
(Should I escape. I hate to admit it but that was almost my life Kazuki took. Why did that woman stop him? She tried killing me the other day but now she saves my life. Just what exactly is this?)
Triska took Reya’s silence as acknowledgment and continued.
“Not only are you no match for me but its clear, currently you are no match for them as well.”
Triska pointed at Kazuki and Degra with the end of her trident. Reya said nothing but her face twisted in anger.
“That man there with the strange ability. He is an enemy of mine. One that’s given me trouble for years now. He allies himself with your enemy, Kazuki is it? I nearly killed you in the past but I have no need to go against you as you have no need to be against me. I will help you in this fight and afterward, you will leave these lands and go back to wherever you came from. Do you understand what I’m saying?”
Reya was genuinely surprised. Her eyes shifted between Kazuki, Degra, and Triska several times before she got the picture.
(So she’s against them. That one has been a pain in her side for years. I can see that. Even though she’s stronger than this guy, his weird ability must affect her as it does me. Good, even if things go badly, I can still flee. I already have the compass. I can just return to her Majesty’s side and say that a powerful figure allowed Kazuki to escape from me. Her Majesty will be angry with me but she won’t go too far so long as I bring her the true prize. This will have to do.)
Reya’s sour face became bright as she smiled up at Triska.
“I’ll have to take you up on that offer. Thanks.”
“Good, then let’s do this.”
*Whphaaeeuuu*
Triska whistled and her bird-like sound echoed outward like a charming flute.
Nearly 200 figures appeared in the distance all at once and came racing forward at her call. At the same time, Degra snapped his fingers.
*SNAP!*
From the opposite side, a few hundred figures came running over as well as shouts.
“BOSS!”
“BOSS, WE’RE HERE!”
Kazuki called out to Degra.
“We failed with Reya. I think you need to pull out that helmet.”
Degra sighed inwardly.
(This is gonna hurt.)
Degra pulled out a helmet from his storage ring and put it on. An all-white helmet covered up some of Degra’s green hair. His yellow snake-like eyes peering out of it.
“Degra, can you handle Triska?”
Degra didn’t answer for a moment before he said.
“Handle her, no but I can stall her, why?”
Kazuki didn’t answer him and asked something different.
“What about Reya? Do you think you can beat her?”
Degra was annoyed that Kazuki didn’t answer him but he could see Kazuki was serious. Thinking about it for a moment, Degra gave his honest opinion.
“She’s incredibly tough but if I reduce her speed maybe. Triska was able to defeat her and I can just barely hold my own against Triska, theoretically, I should be able to deal with Reya somehow.”
Kazuki nodded.
“Good. Everyone listen up! Degra is taking Reya. Sam, you Shin and Danny will help him. I will take on the blonde trident lady. Asuna and Kimi, you two will back me up and Nunully, you will watch all of us. protect us with your ice and if you see any openings don’t hesitate. Tsura, you and Mei will harass the two of them constantly, don’t give them a chance to catch their breaths, let’s do this.”
Everyone was silent for a moment, surprised by Kazuki’s orders.
“WHAT! ANSWER ME DAMMIT!!”
Kazuki barked at them like a drill sergeant and they felt their hearts shake. Even with the mix of emotion flooding through them, Kazuki’s voice caused them to all shout at the same time.
“YES!”
