An older man appeared atop a horse in the distance. He wore lavish clothing as well as rings with precious gems and stones resting tightly on each of his fat fingers. The man oozed an air of greed. This was the man that just called Degra out, this was the city lord of Gentis city, Thakriss.
Next to him on another horse was a man with a medium build and a cold expression. The man scanned the battlefield looking for something or someone. When he didn’t find who or what he was looking for, he leaned over and whispered something into Thakriss’s ear.
Thakriss was bothered by the cold breath on his face but ignored it when he heard the man’s words. His expression changed slightly and he became a bit nervous but then he shook it away when his eyes landed on Degra and what little remained of his forces.
Thakriss snapped a finger.
*Snap*
The very next moment more and more men appeared in the distance. One hundred, a thousand, two, five, and then double that. At this point, there was no longer a reason to count as they were completely surrounded. Marching slowly forward, Thakriss allowed his soldiers to go forward first until he and Castion were in the very center. Only then did he move them. Thakriss sauntered over with his horse. A confident smile perched upon his face as though everything was already settled and finished.
Not only him, but his entire army became lax seeing only around 60 opponents left. For them to come out for this, They could only feel this was anything but a battle, instead, it was more of a soon to be slaughter. Many of the soldiers even laughed and casually chatted as they came upon Degra and everyone else. Pointing and laughing as they got an increasingly better look at their opponents.
Even from a distance, they could tell just how exhausted their enemies were. Taking in an eyeful of the chunks of ice that lay scattered about the battlefield, seeing the ground that had been carved up and scared in every direction, they could tell a fierce battle had taken place but this only made them even more confident that their enemies were burnt out.
Finally, when they came within a few hundred feet of Degra and the rest, Thakriss threw up a hand symbol and shouted.
“HALT!”
The soldiers although clearly lacking in discipline, still came to a fumbling stop. This was a bit embarrassing for Thakriss but it would not hamper his joyful mood. He had looked around the entire battlefield but had not seen Triska fierce figure whatsoever.
(She must have died fighting. Good, my deal with her is now void, hehe but it’s not like I would have fulfilled it anyway. I’ve brought nearly every soldier from my city. If Triska truly lived, She would be in the same situation as Degra, exhausted from battle. I was already going to show up late to fight but who would have thought Degra and that Kazuki fellow would fly ahead and leave us in the dust. They only aided me and for this, I’ll have to thank them with death, hehehe.)
Degra looked at the number he was facing and felt things were not favored toward him. Facing a few hundred regular soldiers, he could deal with on any given day but thousands upon thousands. He could already see what lied ahead. Thakriss would simply send meat shield after meat shield to face Degra. After Degra was exhausted of magic and stamina, a simple swarming maneuver and Degra would be no more. Still, Degra was Degra and he couldn’t show weakness, not in front of his men.
“City Lord, I see you’ve waited until the last second to attack, a coward through and through, heh.”
Thakriss wasn’t upset by this, how could he be when victory was assured. Waving his hand theatrically, Thakriss spoke as though everything was already over.
“Spout nonsense all you want. It doesn’t change the facts nor the outcome. You call me a coward when in reality this is simple war tactics from beginning to the end. Let your enemy fight your other enemy and then clean up what’s left, everyone knows this. You and Triska are criminals, thugs, and villans, while I on the other hand…I am the law. I am the ruler of Gentis and the one who will eliminate the darkness that has plagued my city for more than a decade.”
*HAH!*
“Now that is quite rich. I am the evil you say, and I suppose that would make you the righteous than right? When it comes to the two of us, who is it that steals from the citizens, hmm? Is it not you. You dip your greedy fat little fingers into the people’s pockets and call it taxes. You force conscription’s and call it a mans duty, a privilege to protect the city. Those that don’t agree you force them to hard labor or you silence them permanently. You suck the blood from the living and eat babies whole.”
A murmur spread throughout the city lords army after Degra’s last sentence.
Thakriss himself exploded in fury.
“YOU! I WHAT!?”
Degra rubbed his chin as though he were thinking real hard before he chuckled and knocked on the side of his helmet playfully.
“Oh! everyone ignore that last part. What I meant to say is that the city lord sucks his own mother’s tits and eats shit whole. AH! wait wait wait, that’s not quite right either. He sucks his father’s cock and eats his mom’s ass whole. Yep…I believe that’s the one.”
Thakriss’s eyes widened, stunned at what Degra just said. Not only him but through the soldier’s low murmur a few laughs were heard here and there and quickly began to spread until most of the men could no longer handle it and erupted with wild laughter.
Thakriss’s joyful mood did a complete 180 and the fat on his face shook a bit as he trembled in anger.
“SILENCE!”
Thakriss roared at his army and all at once they stopped laughing and went dead quiet. None had seen the city lord so angry in their entire lives. Hearing his roar that ripped through the air and rattled their eardrums, the soldiers were reminded that Thakriss was indeed a 3rd stage Mage and they had all just laughed at him. A cold feeling slid down their spines thinking about it.
The city lord was one that was not only a 3rd stage Mage and wielded great power but he was also the city lord and could sentence them to do hard labor for the rest of their lives on any false charge. Not only could he do this and get away with it if any of their families came out and spoke about it, but it could also easily get you or all of them killed.
Audible gulps were heard from a few men.
Degra nodded at the soldiers.
“Hmm, here I thought they had no discipline at all but now look at them. A little shout or two and they all cease up like precious baby rabbits in front of a snake, very nice. If that doesn’t scream villainous then I don’t know what does.”
Thakriss gripped the reigns of his horse so tightly that you could hear the leather being squeezed.
“Even now you still show such disrespect. I was considering taking you under me. After all, you are skillful, at least when it comes to making money. I thought you could learn your place and become useful but in the end, you are a worthless piece of scum. A street rat from birth and a street rat you will be in death. You’ve laughed and joked but it has only delayed your doom for a few minutes. This is no longer entertaining for me. Goodbye Degra the snake. I’ll be sure to piss on your remains when this is through.”
Thakriss rose his hand high into the air and every single soldier raised their weapon. Whether it was their bows, swords, rings, or staffs, everyone aimed at Degra and the rest.
*Rumble*
Just before Thakriss was about to order their deaths, A hill sized pile of ice began to tremble and shake.
*AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!*
*BAM!*
The hill of ice exploded in one show of power, sending boulder-sized chunks of frozen debris shooting out in every direction.
*Bam Bang Boom Bam!*
As this rain of death came crashing down, the army filled with panic, and everyone made a mad dash to try and get out of the way.
Castion who rode directly next to Thakriss swiftly raised his staff and willed his power forth.
“SHIELD!”
With this shout, dense wall of ice encased both he and the city lord before completely wrapping around them and forming a small protective dome that protected only the two and their horses. The soldiers found this to be unfair or rather they would have if they had the time to think. As the ice chunks came raining down, they could do little more than run away.
Some had the ability and made their own shields out of rock walls or some had tattoos that lit up and with a powerful punch, they’d shatter the ice chunks in one go. These ones were capable but many others clearly were not as they were crushed instantly. Hundreds could do nothing and were killed instantly while a few hundred more were maimed. Legs splattered, arms shattered, skin torn and flesh torn to tatters.
Constant screams of terror echoed throughout the previous calm battlefield. None could understand what had just happened, well, none except two people.
Degra’s eyes pierced through the mess of it all and he became slightly pale.
(This bitch, she still isn’t dead.)
Degra had been so confident that the mountain of ice had crushed and killed Triska, he hadn’t bothered to look. After all, who the fuck can survive 10’s of thousands if not a hundred thousand pounds of ice falling on top of them. Who would in a million years think one could endure such a thing.
Triska rose up into the sky and inhaled deeply before shouting.
*HAAAAAAAH!*
A torrent of air pushed all of the snow and mist away with one blow and cleared up everyone’s vision. Her shout also brought everyone’s attention to her in a single moment.
Triska’s put her hand off to the side and shouted once more.
“COME!”
Her trident shout out of the ground from somewhere and raced into the sky before she snatched it out of the air. With a quick spin, she aimed at a certain person on the ground.
“WAS THAT IT!”
