Nunully screamed frantically and she wouldn’t stop. Etora feared she would jump in and had to forcefully pull her away from the edge. Asuna held her hand and tried to comfort her but she as well was shell shocked and didn’t know what to do.
“Nunully! Snap out of it!”
“Kazuki, Kazuki he, down there, we have to…We have to.”
Etora nodded.
“Your right, I’ll go in right now so get back.”
Everyone was stunned by Etora’s words and Glacious snapped at him.
“NO! You know that place interferes with magic. Can you even survive a place where there is no magic to feed on? Won’t your body fall apart down there? Beyond that, you are forgetting the one who rules down there. The Abyssal trench belongs to him and him alone.”
Etora knew his brother was right but how could he give up on Kazuki so easily.
“I have to at least try. Besides, there’s no guarantee that whatever interference lies below will actually affect me.”
Glacious was reluctant to let Etora go. The depths of this trench was many miles.
(Kazuki can’t possibly survive such a fall.)
“I know you don’t want to hear it but for Kazuki to survive such a fall…Not only that, jagged sharp spikes align the cliff walls. Those spikes are so sharp and hard that they can even cut my flesh, let alone Kazuki’s. He would have no way of climbing up. That doesn’t even cover the dangers below. Without magic, he can’t fight or even fly away if need be. Can’t fight, can’t run, and can’t climb, do you expect a miracle or something?”
“Big brother how can you speak like this. After everything Kazuki has done for both you and I. How can you be so cold?”
*BANG*
Glacious struck the ground with a fist, collapsing the ground by several feet.
“I KNOW! BELIEVE ME, I KNOW!”
*Haaa*
“I know how I sound right now but it doesn’t change the facts. Kazuki if he lives, we can not help him but maybe we can seek it.”
Glacious struggled to stand and he slowly approached the edge of the trench. Peering down into its seemingly infinite darkness, Glacious shouted into the trench.
“ZETRAZZ!!”
Glacious’s voice echoed out into the dark void. A moment later he continued.
“KING OF THE SHADOW AND RULER OF THE ABYSSAL TRENCH! ANSWER ME!”
His voice continued to echo down to the very depths of the trench before the world went silent. Nearly a minute went by without any movement before Etora grew impatient.
“Forget this I’m going in.”
Etora took a step toward the edge when suddenly.
*BAM!*
A powerful force of dark energy flew up and knocked him several miles backward. A deep dark voice soon followed.
“GLACIOUS, I WONDERED WHO WAS MAKING SUCH A RACKET UP ABOVE FOR QUITE SOME TIME. SO IT REALLY WAS YOU.”
This voice spoke calmly but every word was filled to the brim with power and it came bearing down on Asuna and the others forcing them backward. The pressure they felt from just these simple words was enough to make them collapse. Only Glacious resisted this power. A moment later Etora returned and stood by Glacious’s side, a look of anger and defiance on his face. Yet when he arrived, he said nothing and didn’t dare speak with loose lips.
Glacious, to everyone’s surprise, bowed slightly toward the trench.
“I apologize for the happenings earlier. I had a few uninvited guests come and seek me and my friends out so I had to take care of them. I seemed to have entertained them for too long and things ran late. Enough about me though, I need to ask something of you.”
The trench became quiet and hollow before that deep voice came from below.
“You dragons really don’t stop. You are granted such immense strength from birth and grow faster in power than every other creature and yet you waste such abilities destroying the surface. Us Titans, on the other hand, come to be after hundreds of thousands of years and we grow at a rate that encompasses thousands of lifetimes. We live in seclusion and simply wish to be left alone and yet you bastards are constantly bothering us. Why the gods chose you dragons over us, I will never understand such chaotic wisdom.”
Glacious took the insult and let it slide. He kept his cool and went right to it.
“You may have a point there but past that, I’m sure you are curious as to why I have called out to you. The truth is, I need your help. Moments ago…”
“STOP! I already know what it is you want. Ever since things started I woke up and witnessed everything that’s taken place. You wish for me to send the human up above. There’s no need to ask because the answer is no.”
There was no hesitation whatsoever in Zetrazz’s voice. Asuna and Nunully felt a panic hearing this and wanted to say something but Glacious stopped them. His entire demeanor changed and his aura rushed out and into the trench. With a cold tone, Glacious spoke.
“Zetrazz, we are not fully enemies nor are we friends. We have been fairly neutral for too many years to count. I have never asked for anything…”
“And there’s no need for you to do so now. Have you already forgotten the agreement between us? The things that happen on the surface are your business and the happenings down here in my territory are mine. We do not interfere in anything that the other does in their own space nor do we ask for things. We keep our distance. That is the very foundation of our relationship. Nothing more and nothing less. As long as we stick with it, we can live so close to one another and we don’t have to engage with one another beyond that. Your lucky I’m even talking to you right now in the first place. If I hadn’t known you for hundreds of years, do you think I would personally come and speak with you today? Not only that, what should I surmise from you releasing your aura upon me? Is this a threat?”
Right after Zetrazz said that another aura came from the trench, one that was in no way less than Glacious’s and it proceeded to push Glacious’s aura out of the trench.
Glacious glared into the trench.
“Your right, the status quo has worked up until now because we kept out of each other’s spaces but the person who fell below is important to me. I need that person to be safely returned to me. You ask if I’m making threats. I’d rather it not be that way. I’d rather you simply help me out this one time and I would owe you in return. Things would be much simpler that way…but, if you can not help me…I can be your enemy.”
The trench went silent once more before finally, Zetrazz spoke once more.
“Dragon, you disappoint me greatly and as for your threats, they simply do not work. Maybe if I were on the surface there might be a possibility of you posing a threat to me but down here in my domain, there’s not a being in this world that can kill me. So speak all the empty threats you wish or if you really wish, step down here and say it to my face. Death will be the only thing awaiting the one so foolish to come. I will not comply nor help you because that is what we agreed upon so long ago. If you break our agreement and really try to come then I will no longer be polite. As for the human. As long as he doesn’t bother me, I will not bother him, though that doesn’t include all the other creatures down here that will see him as a tasty little meal. His fate is his. Whatever happens, will happen. Now leave me be in peace and go away you stupid dragon. I have nothing more to say to you.”
The dark energy spilling out of the Trench sunk back down like a falling tide and the trench went quiet once more.
Glacious’s eyes went wide and he roared out in fury.
*RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”
The world shook around him. Etora grabbed his shoulder and Glacious finally stopped.
“Big brother, what do we do?”
Glacious bit his lower lip, causing a line of blood to run down his chin. In the end, he lowered his head and slowly shook it. Etora felt bitterness in his heart as he stared into the pitch-black trench.
Nunully began to cry once more and tears started to quietly flow from Asuna as well. The two held each other tight in comfort but there was little they could really do to settle their chaotic emotions at the moment.
Not just them. A terrible atmosphere surrounded everyone. They had survived one terrible threat after the other. They had suffered together, sacrificed together, and both won and lost together. When they lost Danny, they all had broken a bit inside. The pain and realization of loss, the anguish it caused. They thought then that that was the most terrible feeling they had ever felt in their lives and once more they were reminded of such pain. Silently, once more, something broke within them.
