*SHINE*
A few miles away from the Rin mountain range, high above the darkness, light erupted into the sky and a large white palace appeared in the sky.
Glacious waved his scepter from within the throne room and the floor beneath him became translucent. Garn looked beneath his feet and still hadn’t a clue what was happening beneath him as he couldn’t peer through the black energy below.
Tobern and Brian’s holographic figures looked through the floor at this dark energy and the two became stumped. Not just from the energy swirling chaotically below but at the fact that just a moment ago, Garn revealed the completion of his ultimate weapon, and the fact that it was none other than his palace was boggling to the mind.
For a king to turn their home into a weapon, the two wondered if Garn was the first in history to do so.
Before the two could speak, the dark energy from below spread towards them but when it came near the palace.
*Tssss*
A large barrier appeared around the entirety of the palace and blocked the dark energy completely.
Garn could see the two kings were speechless and chuckled inwardly as he felt pride for his new creation.
“Surprised? Glacious taught me a valuable lesson the day he destroyed my floating island. One of the main flaws was a severe lack of defense. The natural course following that was to implement this shield barrier.”
Brian felt an impending danger arise.
(This thing actually has a shield. Is this not similar to my own Magitech?”
Brian tried to appear calm as he asked.
“Garn, this barrier, how much can it take?”
Garn rubbed his chin before smiling.
“This shield barrier of mine is quite impressive don’t fall over once I tell you.”
Tobern and Brian shared the same look as if saying just tell us already.
Garn took the hint and just said it without holding back.
“Glacious may be at the 7th stage but even he would not be able to get through this barrier immediately. Below that, the 6th stage…no Mage at that level can get through my barrier. That’s not all though. Just as my palaces defense can block all 6th stage Mages, this weapon can also deal 6th stage magic, and that’s all before it fires my ultimate attack. Those that can withstand its blow, beside Glacious, Titans of course, after them though, nothing can last. This weapon, my glorious creation, with it, I finally have the means to destroy all of the Azirians. Even if they hide in the thick Miasma, that poisonous fog can no longer protect them. I will soon head out and crush the Azirian’s once and for all. I will be the one to save the entire world and bring it peace and prosperity. With this weapon, none will be able to defy me and none will be able to flee. This is the reason you two will soon follow me. I won’t ask you to kneel or turn over your kingdoms right away but once the Azirian’s are dealt with, I expect no resistance from either of you. However, if I receive it…then don’t blame me for what comes after.”
Tobern began to shake, though one could not see such fragility through his holographic figure. Anger, hatred, resentment, denial, powerlessness, Tobern felt all of these at once. Still, he couldn’t bow down, not now, not ever. He pointed at Garn and roared.
“A joke! Nonsense! Beyond Impossible! You’re telling me this thing can destroy anything below the 7th stage! No! Your lying! Something like that can not possibly exist. Not in this realm! This is all a ploy to steal my kingdom! Do you think after a few exaggerations and I’ll simply hand everything over? You mentioned war earlier, fine. If that’s what it takes, I’ll fight you to the death before I hand over a single gold Zeni!”
Tobern looked at Brian and yelled at him as well.
“Brian, your too quiet! Are you not pissed at such deceit!? Garn is trying to start a war. We must join together and fend him off, otherwise…”
Brian had gone quiet and ignored Tobern as he contemplated something. Tobern became even more angered.
Tobern was absolutely livid and understandably so. Garn however was a picture of calmness. After Brian’s little speech back in Treia, Garn found a few of his words to be correct. He did act unkingly in front of the two earlier as well as petty. With his weapon though, he knew in his heart that he was above the two. Though he still felt a bit of anger from Tobern’s doubt, as long as he wasn’t insulted, he wouldn’t become too angry. Besides, the two kings before him were obviously still unaware of the power before them. Didn’t he just have to show them then? Just as he was about to speak, Brian finally asked something ahead of him.
“Garn, though I rarely agree with Tobern, I do find it hard to believe this palace of yours can hold such a power source. All of that power inside of one structure of this size and the structure should crumble or worse for worse, explode. Not only that, such a power source should not exist in this realm. Are you saying you went to a higher realm, took such an object, and then returned to this lower realm, with zero consequences?
As Brian pointed out these problems, Tobern felt even more confident that Garn was lying and trying to trick them. Garn shook his head.
“You both know it’s impossible for someone at my stage to enter a higher realm. To my knowledge, only dragons and demi-gods can ascend to the higher realms. Either that or a god themself brings you to a higher realm and we both know I have no such connection. So for me to go there take such an object and return here, there’s no way that can happen.”
Tobern laughed cynically.
“You see what did I say. Garn you yourself admit to lying to us. This palace may be able to teleport and has such a fancy barrier but I’m sure it’s burning energy at an astronomical rate. You have no power source strong enough to keep this thing in the air for long I bet. How much more can it float, 10 minutes 20. After that, you’ll most likely use the last of this thing’s energy to return back to Tresta and cut the long-distance communication with us short. That way you can still keep up the illusion that such a thing can actually work.”
Garn felt pity for how stupid Tobern was but also he couldn’t help but laugh inwardly.
(Too stupid to understand how magic really works. This is why you’ll never stand on my level. Even if you could live another 1000 years, your comprehension wouldn’t take you past the 4th stage.)
Brian on the other hand remained quiet as he closely observed Garn. He could see that there was no change in Garn’s expression. He could see that Garn wasn’t speaking nonsense but he still couldn’t understand the confidence.
(Garn has always been considered one of the wisest on the Feya continent. He isn’t one to speak from his ass, yet his claims right now are unreasonable. This palace should not be able to work as he says it does. Could Garn have figured something out? Even if this really does all he says, how is he feeding it energy? Once the power sources run out of energy, they would need to be replaced. If what he says is true, then wouldn’t the replacement for such a resource guzzler equate to a nation’s budget. Garn has that but for him to devote all of that to a single weapon, wouldn’t his people soon starve to death with such spending. Hero Garn would not do such a thing to his people but obsessed King Garn, there’s no doubt he would.
Tobern was still laughing but Garn and Brian were not. Garn in the end was growing tired of Tobern’s nonsensical ways and decided to just prove it. With a wave of his scepter, deep within the palace, a small orb rotating at high speed glowed with a purple light.
*Flash*
The very next moment, this small fist-sized orb appeared and hovered above Garn’s hand.
Both Tobern and Brian instinctively shielded their eyes for a moment but they both remembered they were only here as a holographic image and felt a tinge of embarrassment. Brian accepted his embarrassment quietly while Tobern’s stubbornness was on full display. He pointed at the small orb floating and spinning in the air and joked.
“And what’s this supposed to be an oversized sparrow egg. I didn’t come here to eat breakfast but I suppose a snack wouldn’t be too bad, hahaha.”
As Tobern laughed like a wild hyena, it was Brian that now could barely control his emotions. As he stared at the glowing orb he focused on the thousands of intricate inscriptions carved on it. Focusing further, he spotted thousands more entwined and connecting to the rest of the inscriptions, like small binding chains. He could see many inscriptions that he’d never seen before and witnessed how they combined and linked in ways he’d never thought of. His expression turned blank as a thought occurred to him.
(The ancient language can be combined in such a way?Such a thing, Is this real?)
