Kazuki’s movements flowed like water as he drew the branch from his waist like a divine blade. He perfectly executed the first form Blade of Wind and his attack didn’t stop there but smoothly transitioned into the second form Shapeless Cloud.
The branch divided into dozens and came raining down from nearly every angle. Finally, Kazuki moved to the third form, Severing Tempest. With a single slash, he aimed to destroy his second attack with this final one but just as it seemed as if this attack would work, it wavered a bit in the air before dissipating. His last attack had failed.
Kazuki knew this would happen. After all, he had gained this skill directly from Danny, and Danny himself had yet to master the 3rd sword form. There was no sadness in this failure though. Kazuki had trained with the sword for a few years back on Earth and was fairly confident with most blades but what he had gained from Danny in an instant was equivalent to someone training with a sword for over 100 years. Since time moved differently inside Kazuki’s soul world, Danny had basically been training for over 100 plus years, and now all of those failures, as well as successes, were now embedded in Kazuki’s soul.
Danny watched Kazuki perform all of those sword techniques with such ease, he couldn’t help but feel a little jealous. What took him so long to conquer through hard work and toiling, Kazuki had attained in seconds. At the same time, he understood why this had to happen which gave him a few conflicting emotions.
“Kazuki, this is definitely a cheat. For you to now know all of the moves it took me so long to learn, well, you better not make yourself look like an ass because that would reflect poorly on both me and Kai. Don’t drop the ball, you hear me!?”
Kazuki admired the branch in his hand. A smile stretching across his face.
“I know. Thank you, Danny.”
Danny shrugged his shoulders.
“I’ve been taking up space in your soul world for a while now, I suppose you can say this is back payments for letting me stay here.”
Kai was about to slap the two on the back but before he could both Danny as though they had an extra sense glared at him.
“Ok, my bad. I was just wondering why the two of you seemed to be getting all sentimental. This gift from Danny isn’t all that great after all the third form Severing Tempest is still incomplete and a mess but that’s what you get when you don’t use the best.”
Kai pointed at himself and the two couldn’t help but wonder.
“Big bro, now that you mention it, why didn’t you just transfer this skill to me. Your technique is indeed complete. If I could use the 3rd form I’d be capable of cutting through energy. I could use that to completely dominate Groud and wouldn’t have to worry about learning to use aura differently. It could completely turn things upside down.”
“True enough but look at the shape I’m in. I would have to use my own energy to transfer that technique to you. My body is constantly shifting between see-through and whole. If I gave you anything, I’d fully disappear for good. Not only that, with the little power I have left, there’s no guarantee I’d be able to transfer the technique over before my entire existence is no more. This is also one of the reasons Danny is fine. Because he’s fused to your soul tree, he already shares energy with you. The only way for him to disappear is for either him to get hit with a soul attack of some kind or for you yourself to die. With your death, Danny’s soul goes bye-bye. I on the other hand am simply a fragment of a soul and will eventually dissipate, how long until that happens, I have no clue. The point is, I could try and transfer a skill or two but I’ll most definitely not survive. If you want though I guess I can give up my existence for you.”
Kai finished his words with obvious sarcasm.
“Ok, we get it brother, no need no need. I want you to stick around for a little longer.”
Kai fluttered his eyes lashes and cupped his hands.
“Really little dummy do you mean it, hahaha.”
Kazuki rolled his eyes.
“I don’t know, I’m already starting to regret it, haha.”
The three shared a laugh from this before getting back down to business.
“Kazuki, now that you’ve attained the sword forms from me, you should now have experience controlling the wind with your soul. At least that’s one of the abilities you should have gained. Test it out right now and I’ll be able to show you some pointers. Though you really shouldn’t need any.”
Kazuki took a relaxed stance and held the branch comfortably at his waist. Going through the memories he received from Danny as well as allowing the experience from all that training to flow through him freely, he began to sense the wind with his soul. This was different from using the element of wind with magic and his Mage core and instead came directly from the soul.
Kazuki felt the air around him shift and gather around both the sword as well as his body. It glided softly across the surface of his skin giving him a feeling as if he were being gently embraced. Instead of drawing the branch at a terrifying speed, something within him, Danny’s experience and memories told him not to. This feeling began to synch with his own natural instincts as he slowly drew the branch from his side.
At first, he pulled it several inches from his side in an instant but he felt even that was too fast and he slowed his drawing speed even more. The air flowed around his body like a calm breeze and he slowed his drawing speed even more. Eventually, it was as slow as a crawl. In this way, Kazuki could feel and sense the wind with every inch of his soul. His skin began to tingle as he directed it around himself. He had taken complete control of it.
As he continued to draw the branch at a turtle-like speed, inside his mind, the image of both the wind and a sword appeared. As he controlled the wind, inside his mind the image of the wind followed his desire. With it, the sword in his mind began to change paths and he could visualize how the combination of the two could change his attack with the blade.
This was a very strange feeling and Kazuki had never come across it before. Not only was it strange but it was also somehow comforting. As he continued to slowly draw the branch from his side, deeper inside his mind, the pattern of the wind and blade changed constantly. It went from the 1st form and naturally flowed to the second. As it came upon the third, Kazuki felt as if something was blocking him but at the same time, he felt as if he were on the verge of discovering a path forward, a path to completion.
Just as he was deep in thought, Danny and Kai both shouted at him.
“KAZUKI!”
Kazuki came back to his senses and found that the branch at his side had already been drawn long ago. Not only that, the wind within his soul world was shrieking as it was being torn asunder. Kazuki quickly dropped the branch and the wind suddenly went quiet and the soul world once more was calm.
“What the hell was that!?”
Danny looked at Kazuki as though he were stupid.
“That’s what I want to ask! You suddenly went into a trance or something and began drawing the branch hundreds of times, causing the air to go wild. Just what the hell did you do?”
“Danny relax. Kazuki was just on the verge of enlightenment. It’s something those who are near the edge of discovery can sometimes fall into. It’s a good thing, not bad. He must be close to finding out how to use the 3rd form. Because he all of the sudden got over a hundred years of experience all at once, he must be trying to naturally put the last technique together. This is the difference between talent and hard work. You toiled for so long yet have still not been able to perform the 3rd form as desired but Kazuki within minutes of attaining what you have nearly completed the technique himself. Sorry, little dummy that we interrupted that but it was necessary. Things were starting to get dangerous. Had you continued, you might have cut us down without even knowing it and that would have been really fucked up. Don’t fret though. If you are that close to completing the technique yourself then with a little training from me, you should be able to master it in no time.”
Danny felt put out by that.
For Kazuki to be this talented, just what had he been working this hard for this long. He originally had started to train like this because of sheer boredom but the work he put in was real and eventually became his main focus. For talent to triumph like this, it was hard to swallow. If he wasn’t already dead, there would be a high chance of suicide at this point.
Feeling like this, Danny just sat down in the dirt and sighed. Kazuki though could tell Danny was upset.
“Danny.”
Danny looked up at Kazuki, still feeling sour.
“Yeah.”
“Thank you. Without you, I would most likely die in the upcoming battle with Groud but now there’s an actual chance. I’ll never be able to pay you back but I just want you to know, you and Kai, you’re both my benefactors and I know for sure I would never have made it this far without either of you. So again…Thank you, brother.”
Kazuki extended a hand and Danny kind of stared blankly at it for a moment before grabbing it and getting pulled up. A smirk on his face.
“Enough with the sappiness. No thanks required…Brother.”
Kai flew over at this moment and teased.
“Ok that’s all good and all but how long are the two of you gonna hold hands. Any longer and I’d say you were more than brothers, hahaha.”
Branches appeared in both Kazuki and Danny’s hands and they turned menacingly toward Kai.
Kai saw the danger and with a small salute he took off to the sky. Now that Kazuki understood the wind, both he and Danny flew after Kai, quickly giving chase.
