Return of the Fallen Volume 7 Chapter 16
Kazuki released a fraction of his aura and it covered Sid in an instant. Sid’s face went pale and he collapsed to his knees and cold sweat poured down his face. He could feel the air being squeezed out of his lungs and felt as though his heart would be crushed at any moment. His eyes shook as he looked at Kazuki. Only now did he realize how powerful Kazuki truly was.
Still, even with this monumental force bearing down upon him, even with the threat of death literally staring him down, Sid refused to let go of the scroll. Instead, he bit his lip hard enough for it to bleed before squeaking out a miserable…
“n…no.”
Kazuki was perplexed.
(Even when he knows I could kill him here and now, he refuses to give up the Golem schematic. Is his obsession just like Tilly’s.)
Sid finally could take Kazuki’s aura no more and fell face forward. His eyes began to roll up in the back of his head as he was on the verge of passing out.
Kazuki didn’t want to relent but at the same time, he didn’t wish to kill old Sid. Just before Sid was out cold, Kazuki pulled his aura back.
Sid regained his senses and looked up at Kazuki who stood over him like a mountain of doom. His hand clutched the scroll even harder in fear that Kazuki would snatch it back and disappear it from his sight forever.
That didn’t happen, instead, Kazuki just outright asked.
“We may be acquaintances but were little more than that. You refuse to return to me what is mine, tell me, why should I not kill you for this act of thievery?”
Sid shook his head and flat out refuted the claims.
“I am no thief!”
“Then why won’t you return my shit?”
Sid ground his teeth repeatedly before finally coming out with it.
“Tilly, this was the reason she died. She risked her everything to study over these designs and stole a magic core and fled Glacious’s tiny world. She did all of that only to be killed by a damn Azirian. For most of my lifetime, I’ve known and been friends with Tilly. She was crude, rude, and could away more alcohol than most barbarians but that was only a part of her. She also had a maddening passion and love for crafting items just like I. Do you know what it’s like to devote yourself to one thing for all your life. To only care about this one thing, to only have faith in it and pursue it with everything you have. That was Tilly, and that is also me. This schematic is something akin to a holy relic. It is something that one could search for their entire lives and never even see a scrap of it, yet the old bat actually managed to get her hands on it. She got it and then died soon after. Do you know how vexing that must feel. To arrive at the very top of the mountain and never claim it. Her soul must be suffering in the afterlife because of this. I know how she was and not being able to make a Golem will eat at her soul for all eternity, I guarantee that. I know the relationship between you and I isn’t close but if you ever cared for Tilly even a fraction of what I do, you would understand those unfulfilled feelings. I’m not stealing these blueprints. I’m not even asking to keep them. I only wish to borrow them for a short time so I can make both Tilly’s dream and mine come true. Kazuki!”
Sid managed to make it to his knees. He then proceeded to slam his head three times onto the ground and bowed. His words filled with complex emotion as he begged from the depths of his soul.
“Please! I beg you! Let me build this Golem. For her and for me! Let me complete this task! I will owe you for now and forever. PLEASE GRANT THIS TO ME!”
A small flow of blood began to spread from where Sid had slammed his head on the floor. Kazuki stood there in silence and Sid as well refused to move until his words were acknowledged. Deep down though, Kazuki already acknowledged them.
He understood perfectly well what it was like to obsess over something for years and years.
His number one goal even now had yet to change. Revenge! Revenge against his scum of a sister and revenge against the one who orchestrated all of it. The one who ripped both his Mage core out of his body as well as from his brothers. The one who killed Kai in front of him. Kazuki could give up all of his power in a heartbeat if it meant he could slay his adoptive mother. To be able to personally place both of his hands around her neck and squeeze with everything he had. To watch her face change colors and drain of both oxygen and blood. To see her eyes bulge out like a disgusting bug until the last of her breath leaves her a cold husk.
Kazuki understood obsession all too well.
Calming himself, he sighed before waving his palm.
“Get up first.”
Following those three words, Kazuki’s wind aura swept around Sid and lifted him back to his feet.
“Tilly meant a great deal to me. After returning to this world she was the first person I truly got along with. Drinking with her, just put me at ease for some reason.”
Sid nodded along. He completely got that.
“You right. Tilly would never rest in the afterlife and would probably cause trouble in that place. Let’s give the gods a break from her constant nagging about unfairness. As you said, I’ll let you borrow that and you will build a single Golem. After that though, you will forget all of this or…”
Kazuki didn’t have to even finish his words. Sid got the message.
His eyes were shining at the moment though and even under such a threat, he could only care about the Golem.
“As for what you’ll build it from…Well you’ve seen the designs, there are a multitude of materials you can create it from but I was thinking
Sid held up a hand.
“No need. I will use only the finest materials. I’ll use the best Mythril and the finest magic gold. With the proper elemental crystals, I ca…”
Sid’s words were caught in his throat as Kazuki glared at him. He quickly apologized.
“I..I didn’t mean any offense. I’m sorry I just got a little carried away. Of course, this design belongs to you and the Golem will be yours as well. You should rightfully decide what it is made from.”
Kazuki shook his head.
“There’s no need to apologize as your thinking isn’t wrong. Only the materials you named are inferior to what I have in mind.”
The gears in Sid’s mind rolled about in confusion.
(Mythril is considered inferior. Is this boy serious. Just what does he think Mythril is? What on Gordonia could be superior to Mythril!?)
Just as he was thinking about how wrong Kazuki’s words were, Kazuki held his hand out.
His wind aura gently moved Sid to the corner of the room before his ring lit up and a 9-foot block of orichalcum appeared in the room and landed hard on the ground with a loud…
*BANG!*
The block of metal was incredibly heavy and shook the lower half of the building causing a mild panic from those still roaming Sid’s shop. A few shrieks rang out from within the shopping area and barely a second later the store stopped shaking as if it never moved in the first place.
A few moments later the door to the backroom Kazuki and Sid were in swung open.
“Boss! Boss! the building and customers…”
It was shopkeeperJaken who stormed in. The moment he ran inside the backroom he noticed the large block in the room and his eyes went wide. He was in charge of ordering things and receiving supplies and things like that. Seeing the large block in the room he didn’t recognize it. As he was lost in thought, Sid shouted at him.
“BOY! DID I SAY YOU COULD ENTER HERE! LEAVE AT ONCE!”
Jaken had never seen his boss like this and didn’t understand at first and just stood there dumbfoundedly. Sid again barked at the young man.
“DO YOU HAVE SHIT IN YOUR EARS BOY!?!? i THOUGHT I TOLD YOU TO LEAVE!”
Only now did Jaken snap out of it.
“But boss, the customers are frightened what should I
Before he could even finish Sid roared over him.
“I DON’T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT ANY OF THAT RIGHT NOW! CLOSE THE SHOP, KICK ALL OF THEM OUT I DON’T GIVE A SHIT! JUST GET THE FUCK OUT AND HANDLE IT!”
Jaken felt fear run down his spine and he slowly took a step back before Sid once again screamed at him.
“I SAID LEAVE!!!!”
Jaken jumped with a start before running away and slamming the door behind him. At the same time, Sid slowly approached the large block of metal, a whisper passing through his lips as he was in disbelief at what stood before him.
“The god of metal, orichalcum.”
