Return of the Fallen Volume 7 Chapter 18

After changing out of the ape outfit, Kazuki left the shop with a few sets of simple clothes. The shopkeeper did her best to throw in the latest styles but Kazuki wasn’t looking to be too flashy and eventually they settled on some outfits that wouldn’t stand out too much and at the same time would cause people to question whether or not he was a beggar.

Stepping outside, the moon already hung high in the night sky. He had entered the shop right at closing time and the sun was already going down at that time so he didn’t actually stay for as long as one would imagine.

Walking into a nearby alley, Kazuki spread out dark energy around himself, wrapping his large body into a dark mist. Leaping from rooftop to rooftop, he moved like a phantom shadow. Controlling his weight with his wind aura he was as light as a feather. The city was still vibrant even at this time. The number of people still out and about was nearly equal to the number of folks out during the day yet none noticed Kazuki whatsoever.

In a few fractions of a second, Kazuki once again was near the city lord’s mansion. armed soldiers guarded every entrance and Kazuki didn’t know if it was because of the scene he caused earlier in the day or if this was normal but he could sense that nearly all of the soldiers were still up and on alert.

Before he got too close, Kazuki could see small inscriptions lining around the entire property. Some were for alarms some were traps and some were defensive barriers. This place was guarded almost like a fortress. Any being at the 3rd stage and below would be detected the moment they drew near such a place but Kazuki was different.

His hands flashed many symbols as power drew near. Kazuki removed the dark energy from his body and using the ancient hand symbols he changed the light around his body. Bending it around him, Kazuki seemed to vanish into thin air.

Stretching out his ki, he covered the traps and alarms around him. His ki blocked out the magic and interfered with the inscriptions and Kazuki casually walked past the guards and onto the property.

From there he walked directly into the mansion. He moved with silence and even his breath could not be detected. Not even a mouse was disturbed.

As soon as he stepped inside, he felt a warm nostalgia enter his heart. The layout was exactly the same as he remembered.

(The only change I can see is that there are now way more alarms and defensive measures throughout this place. It seems Jool is paranoid about being attacked.)

Walking by soldier after soldier, he was completely invisible to them. Within a few moments, he arrived at a door. With a bit of ki, he inserted it into the lock.

*Chink*

The door slowly opened and revealed Tilly’s old office. The last time he was here it had a nice couch along with stacks of papers and books all over the place creating almost a pigsty-like environment. The room now was covered in dust and everything was covered in cobwebs and bits of mold.

(Forget maintained, this room’s been abandoned. The difference between the hallway and this room is like night and day.)

Kazuki became a little upset. These were Tilly’s things and yet her own son didn’t care for them or take care of them.

(He’s easily one of the richest if not the richest man in this city and yet he can hire one fucking maid to tend to this place.)

Kazuki’s ring flashed and he stored all of Tilly’s things inside. Afterward, he took one last look inside, remembered the night he got shit-faced with Tilly and laughed until morning before quietly shutting the door.

Kazuki didn’t have a very big impression of Jool, but seeing the way Tilly’s things were left like that, automatically took points off.

Kazuki then headed to Tilly’s workshop. Next to drinking her favorite hobby or rather obsession was crafting items. Entering her workshop though, he was a little disappointed that there was nothing to be found. Instead of a mess, it looked like the place was robbed.

Kazuki shook his head and left.

Sending out his aura, he didn’t use its suppressing force but instead he sensed with it. Now that his aura had grown stronger, he could cover a thousand feet in every direction with it, which meant he could sense anything within a thousand feet of himself.

For this large mansion, he merely had to use it twice before he got the full picture of everyone and everything in this place. He very quickly found Jool. He had remembered the man’s face from the last time he was here and headed to his location.

The man sat behind a decorated desk. His chair made of the finest material. A golden pen in his hand, he scribbled a few things down every once in a while. A fire burning comfortably in a fireplace off to the side, the room was filled with comforts. Kazuki could sense everything within the room.

Surrounding the room with his aura, he discovered a switch underneath the desk that had alarms attached to it. Kazuki’s ki silently covered it, preventing it from working. Not only that, there was one more alarm inscribed on the city lord’s middle ring. Kazuki also blocked the rings function with his ki.

As the man sat there possibly working. The fire off to the side suddenly fizzled out, blanketing the room in a layer of darkness.

Jool looked over toward the fireplace, confused.

*Haa*

Releasing a small sigh, he pointed at the fireplace with his ring and tried to activate his magic but found that it didn’t work.

“Hmm.”

He tried again but again found that his magic in his core for some reason could not enter his magic ring.

“Is this damn thing busted?”

Just as he was about to get up to fix the fire, Kazuki’s words penetrated the dark.

“No need to get up.”

The moment he said this, the fire off to the side reignited with a blaze, and the entire room, once more was filled with light and Kazuki was already sitting in the chair in front of Jool’s desk.

Jool jumped in fright and fell backward and screamed.

“GUARDS! GUARDS AN INTRUDER! HELP ME NOW!”

Kazuki shook his head.

“There’s no need to scream. I didn’t come here to harm you. Besides your screams can’t leave this room. Even if an explosion happened in here, none outside this room would be capable of hearing it. So stop shouting, it’s pointless.”

Jool couldn’t understand and climbed to his feet and continued to shout for nearly a solid minute while pressing the emergency switch under his desk. Of course, no sound escaped the room and no guards ever came. When he realized this, he then went the other route and he gained distance from Kazuki and grabbed a sword that was hanging over the fireplace.

“Don’t you come near me. I will cut you down if you move even a single step.”

Jool circled around Kazuki and headed for the door. Kazuki didn’t move a single inch and watched this foolish act as Jool struggled to open the door. The door though was already under Kazuki’s control and wouldn’t budge an inch. Jool then proceeded to pound on the door but still no response.

Waving a hand, Kazuki sitting in the chair, and the chair Jool had sat in, all of it rotated in a circle so that now Kazuki was behind the desk and Jools chair was on the other side. The chair that had fallen over when Jool fell backward in fright, suddenly jumped up and landed upright and was pushed out slightly as though inviting Jool to take a seat.

Kazuki leaned forward, his elbows on the desk, he spoke as if he was a boss and this was an interview, at least he gave off that kind of authority.

“Are you finished? If so, would you mind having a seat. As I said I’m not going to hurt you. I was a friend of your mother’s.”

Jool expression changed after hearing Kazuki’s words. Seeing that none of his strugglings did anything and no guards were coming as well as seeing Kazuki wasn’t actively harming him, he slowly walked over to the chair and sat down with the sword still firmly in his grasp.

“That weapon won’t be necessary.”

Kazuki snapped his fingers and a small gush of wind snatched the blade from Jool’s hands and flung it toward the fireplace. The sword flipped around in the air and landed perfectly back on its resting place above the fireplace.

Jool Stared at Kazuki in shock.

(He snatched the sword from my hand and I couldn’t resist it at all. This man, he must be a high-ranked Mage.)

Kazuki’s ring flashed and two cups appeared from his storage ring and were filled with liquor. As soon as the scent drifted over to Jool his face changed once more.

“This is one of mother’s favorite brands. You…You are really an acquaintance of hers?”
