Return of the Fallen Volume 7 Chapter 32
Just as Kazuki commanded, an orb of brilliant bright light shone out and grew brighter and brighter. Too bright in fact. It was already disgustingly bright but the amplification effect of orichalcum as well as its high efficiency with magic was disastrous to Kazuki’s eyes. In an instant, a stinging sensation pulsed in his eyes and the very next moment, his eyes, like tiny pools of gelatin, melted away into even smaller puddles before they started to vaporize.
Kazuki quickly slammed his eyes shut and clasped both hands over the small orb of light but even as he tried to contain the light between his palms, he felt a force trying to pry them open and push him back. Because of Kazuki’s strength, he easily closed his hands around the light but the fact that he felt resistance at all showed just how powerful this light had been. Were he a normal person, this light would have done far worse. It even had a push of energy emitting from it. Had he been normal, he would have been thrown far back like a rag doll.
Just as quickly as it lit up the light faded away into nothing. Kazuki’s eyes were already regenerated barely a moment after they were destroyed. Kazuki caught a whiff of smoke in the air and looked at himself, only to find his clothes had caught on fire. With a casual wave of his hand, the flames were snuffed out in an instant. This though proved again just how strong this metal arm was. It had enhanced a simple light spell to such a degree that the heat from it could light things on fire.
Kazuki looked around the room just in case but found nothing else alight. It was a good thing this room was used for crafting and everything in here was mostly made of metal, stone, or brick.
Kazuki inspected the arm made from god metal in awe.
(Incredible. I barely gathered the element of light. I can’t imagine the power of this arm once Kimi has it equipped. She’ll have to have a fairly decent amount of control just so she doesn’t ham those on her own side.
After looking over the arm for a while, Kazuki found it to be near flawless. The only other thing he could discredit the arm with was how bulky it appeared.
(This won’t do for Kimi. Knowing her, she’ll bitch about how ugly it is or how masculine its appearance is.)
Kazuki waved his hand and his ring lit up. The metal arm in front of him started to change shape slightly. The forearm became smoother and the upper part of the arm became much more slender. Kazuki had seen Kimi’s arms before and matched her arm from memory.
(She better not call me a creep for knowing how her arm is shaped. I’ll take this back there and then if she complains.)
Kazuki chuckled to himself thinking about it. Just thinking about hearing her complaints left a warm feeling in Kazuki’s chest. He even started to miss Kimi’s nagging.
After fixing the shape of the arm, he stored it away.
(For Sid to make this so quickly, the man really is skilled. Still, I wonder if I should be worried. The effort he’s putting in may just drain him. At the rate he’s going, wouldn’t he collapse.)
Kazuki soon left the backroom to check on Sid and sure enough, Sid was already busy at work. He was still examining the stone tablets for the new weapon but as he went, he had a magic pen in the air along with a thick pad of paper. The pen scribbled nonstop and the pad of paper continuously flipped back and forth as he filled up the page or went back and made changes.
Dark bags hung under Sid’s old eyes and e was still sweating.
(He seems to be pushing himself a good deal.)
Kazuki was just about to ask if he wanted to take a short break when Sid called out first.
“Kazuki. What is this third energy.? These inscriptions repeatedly mention something called ki. Magic I know of and aura as well but this ki…It seems to be just as integral as the other two.”
“Hmm, is important that you know? Are you telling me you can’t build this device without knowing?”
Sid shook his head.
“Who do you think I am? I’m Sid the giant. If I say I can make it, then I can. I won’t lie though. Without some basic understanding of this other energy, I can’t foresee the future faults in what I create. It might turn out perfectly well but at the same time, it might not. Is there a reason you can’t tell me about it?”
Kazuki went silent in thought.
(The reason to keep ki out of this world, there isn’t really any. Granny master taught me ki for her own reasons, she never mentioned whether or not this knowledge should be passed on or not. At the same time, it’s technically already out in the world. My memories have been forcefully examined on multiple occasions. Even if I try and stop it, it is already too late. Once the monkey’s out of the box, it takes a circus to put it back or so the saying that I just made up goes.)
Sid took Kazuki’s silence to mean he wouldn’t speak of it causing Sid to sigh inwardly. Whenever he crafted an item, Sid wanted to get as close to perfection to what he imagined. Without an important detail, he could royally fuck up. Sid had a lot of pride and to purposefully create something he didn’t believe in was a sore note to him and too bitter to swallow. He really didn’t wish to make such a flawed device but at the same time, he would get to work with more god metal in the process. Sid had an inner battle with himself at this moment.
(To make something for a customer that could fail them, that is something truly disgusting. God metal though is a once in a lifetime rarity. Hell, most craftsmen will never even be able to look at god metal let alone work with it and yet I’m given such an opportunity.)
After a moment, Sid grit his teeth.
(No, I am a master craftsman, an expert inscriber. I will not make this device if he doesn’t share the knowledge I need to make the best product. I have my standards as a man of the hammer. I’ll regret telling him no on this, probably for the rest of my days but I will not make garbage no matter who it is for or what mythical material they plat in front of me.)
Sid took a deep breath before puffing out his chest. Just before he was about to give Kazuki an ultimatum, Kazuki spoke first deflating Sid in one go.
“I see no reason not to tell you. I would hold you to secrecy though. I’m sure I don’t have to mention what I would do were a word of this to get out.”
Kazuki said this with a serious tone and Sid took it to heart. He knew how strong Kazuki was and this veiled threat was not something he could contend with. Even if Sid sought protection from the king Garn himself, he was sure Kazuki could find a way to him. Just as Sid was about to agree, Kazuki started to laugh.
*Hehe*
“I’m kidding, you could tell the world for all I care, this is no longer a secret. Those that know, know, and to tie your mouth shut I would have to tie there’s as well. There’s no possible way though. For me to even attempt to silence Glacious or Zetrazz, I would be no more than a smudge on the bottom of their foot once they were done with me, no not even a smudge. My existence would be like a fart in the wind. You would only know I was there for a brief moment before the wind carried my essence away. Sid the giant, I won’t make you promise not to tell though I would greatly appreciate it you know between friends and all that.”
Sid felt exhausted at this time. Even after working for days straight, constantly hammering away and forging materials, Using the Sozo glow with precision and delicacy, none of that could contend with Kazuki and his weird habits of scaring people half to death. Still, Sid was relieved to hear, that Kazuki wouldn’t hold anything against him and would share his knowledge. The fact that Kazuki could trust Sid this much, Sid had to answer his trust in kind.
Sid slapped his chest.
“Kazuki, even if you don’t need me to do so, I swear anyway. I swear on these hands that have carried me through over 50 years of crafting, I swear on this head racked full of knowledge and I swear on my very soul, that I won’t mention a word of this to anyone, not now and even when I’m dead and gone to the great beyond, even the gods won’t get a zip out of this giants mouth. You have my word.”
Kazuki didn’t need that. As he had mentioned before, the information was already out there and it was too late to put it back in the box. Seeing Sid swear such an absolute with full sincerity, Kazuki felt satisfied.
Kazuki waved his hand and two chairs sitting in the shop flew over.
“Have a seat, this is going to take a while.”
