Return of the Fallen Volume 7 Chapter 41

Even though the Motozu was dead, that did not make removing its scales any less difficult. Using the thin hair-like pieces of orichalcum that were already inside the creature’s blood, Kazuki willed them forth ad drew them just beneath the surface of the scales.

Using his ki and aura, he could locate every single hair of metal and could get a detailed image of the inside of the Motozu’s corpse. He found that each scale was attached to several thin threads of sinew-like tissue. These bits of connective flesh were incredibly tough. Thankfully though not near as tough as the scales or god metal.

Changing the shape of the metal, he made saw-like teeth on the edge of the metal, and with his magic, he willed them back and forth like real saws. In this way, he severed the threads of tough connective tissue one by one. After a few minutes of this, finally, a few hundred scales were cut from the creature’s body.

Looking up at the mountain-sized corpse, Kazuki sighed inwardly at the task at hand. He didn’t need every scale. According to old Sid, he just had to collect a dozen or so. To collect them all though was not his true motive. He had already stored a few thousand when the Motozu had shed them. No, Kazuki’s true purpose, like Zetrazz had mentioned was the body itself. Kazuki knew he could grow stronger by devouring a stronger creature with his Ourodyess power.

The size of the creature though was not something that could just be taken in. With all of the nearly indestructible scales, along with their unique property of blocking or reflecting energy, Kazuki wasn’t sure, even with the devouring technique if it would work.

Zetrazz had mentioned Kazuki’s lack of guilt for killing this lion-headed creature and it was true.

Kazuki had no need to kill this creature at the end of the day but at the same time, he knew how foolish it would be to leave a creature this powerful alive who was an enemy. The moment it had tried to kill Kazuki, all guilt and any essence of remorse went straight out the window. Maybe if the creature was no threat and was weak, maybe he might have let it live but at the same time maybe not. Leaving something alive with such ill thoughts towards himself, why leave a potential future headache around.

Not only that but Kazuki knew his own strength very well. He was still leaps and bounds beneath his sister. He needed power and strength as fast as possible. To kill a bastard who gave two shits about his own life, Kazuki had no time for such bullshit.

Kazuki had no time for guilt. Not right now, not when his sister along with the Azirian’s was still a threat. Kazuki didn’t care much for the world but it was something needed for all living things and with Glacious putting his life on the line to save it, Kazuki knew he needed to step it up as well. Glacious was a friend and Nunully and Asuna as well as the rest of his friends would be devastated if the world was destroyed.

Kazuki felt slightly detached and felt weird. He cared little for the world but for his friends, it was completely different. For them, he would protect it and fight for it.

(Strange.)

Kazuki stopped thinking about all the nonsense and focused on the corpse in front of him. As he removed the scales, his speed increased. The space where the scales were removed left gaps in the flesh that could be penetrated much more easily.

Kazuki’s eyes glowed emerald green and all of the god metal was shaped into saw-like blades. All of the god metal was shaped slim and thin before it all moved like a flock of birds and flew into the open gaps in the body. The blades went to work under Kazuki’s control and the process and pace became more and more efficient until the scales fell like a cascading waterfall at a continuous rate. Like a heavy rainfall in the wild jungle, the scales fell nonstop by the thousands. Even at this speed though it still took a few days before every scale was removed.

During the removal of the scales, Kazuki was also draining the large ancient beast of all of its blood so as to help prevent rotting. Thankfully this was less of an issue than he initially thought as he was far north and there was frozen ice as far as the eye could see. With ice beneath him and frosty air for thousands of miles, this was one of the best places to keep a body intact.

Cutting the meat wasn’t difficult either. Again, the scales were the real tough opponent. After removing all of the meat came the bones. These were dense and tough. Kazuki would have simply thrown them away but he could feel some remnant power emanating from them. Shaping a large piece of god metal into a chisel, he made another piece a large hammer and separated the bones into even chunks. With this tool, it became much easier.

Three days passed like this. With everything separated, he then went into his soul world and told Kai and Danny what he planned to do and asked them for help just in case he lost his senses to the devouring technique. If that happened they would do their best to awaken his mind and snap him back to his senses.

Kazuki wasn’t actually all that worried. After he became a 5th stage mage and entered the Core stage, his soul and aura had been enhanced greatly. With it, he should be able to perfectly control and seal the technique on the spot but you never know.

Kazuki sat down in a clear spot on the ice. Waving his hand, all of the god metal reformed into a large chunk around two stories tall. For protection, he used the god metal and formed a large dome around himself.

(This may be the Motozu’s territory but our fight spread out for quite the distance. I’m sure there are others that know of this battle and know that our fight has finished. They may not know the victor but that won’t stop their curiosity. Some may even see this as an opportunity. They may believe with such a battle, the Motozu may not have walked away unharmed. They might even think it has been weakened and right now may be the perfect time to try and take it out and move in on the Motozu’s territory. Hehehe, I hope they’re greedy…May they come and be my next meal, hehehe.)

Thinking about this, Kazuki waved his hand. The bones he had literally just stored moments ago, he brought them out of his storage ring and spread them around him.

Kazuki hoped some other creatures got greedy and came wandering over to finish the Motozu or claim its riches and territory. They would only be more fuel for Kazuki’s fire. Kazuki would not hesitate to take them and eat them as well. That is precisely why he put the Ancient beast’s bones around him. They emitted a good deal of energy. They would be the perfect bait to draw in some foes who didn’t know any better.

(The creatures who know of the Motozu, once they sense this small amount of energy from these bones they should recognize it as the Motozu’s. With this little energy, I’m sure they’ll make the wrong assumption and they’ll think the Motozu is weak or injured. Once they are in range, I’ll make my move. For now, though, I’ll quickly absorb the power of the Motozu’s flesh. I’ll do this as quickly as possible so I’m not interrupted during a meal, heh.)

As he thought that, his ring glowed, and tens of thousands of pounds of the Motozu’s body piled up in front of him.

Seeing all of this fresh-cut meat, droll began to spill down Kazuki’s chin. Even before he activated the Ourodyess technique, he began to hear a familiar whisper in his mind.

(De…vour. Devour. Devour all of it!)

Kazuki had no reason to deny this voice calling out to him. With his control over his aura, he was confident in seal this power if it got out of hand. Swallowing down some of his saliva, Kazuki gulped before activating the power at the base of his soul tree.

A small hole began to spin up like a tiny storm and a suction force began to pull at the surroundings inside his soul world. Kai and Danny were already weary of this and watched from afar. Neither one knew for certainty what would happen if they got too close to it but assuming it meant no longer existing, they were more than cautious and kept away.

Kazuki felt the pull from the hole in his soul world and with it, he opened his mouth. Grabbing a large slab of the meat he took a large bite and ripped at it with his teeth. The voice in his mind only grew stronger.

(DEVOUR!)
